현대 시각예술에서 재현의 의미기능 (The Semantic Function of Representation in Contemporary Visual Art)

  • What is the semantic function of visual image in Contemporary art? This article proposes that representation is semantically still important in post-modernism as well as in modernism. The semantic function of representation has been changed by keeping pace with times. In modernism the 'outer representation' changed to 'inner representation', and in postmodernism the 'inner representation' changed to 'metaphorical representation'. The 'outer representation' means that image indicates a certain object or subject as the classical realism. In this case, the meaning of image is subordinate to an object, and a one-to-one correspond existed between the image and the object. Because this 'outer representation' is focused on an object but subject's intention, the indicative function of meaning is definite and singular. The 'inner representation' means that image exposes the fundamentals or process of an object. In this case, the meaning of image resolves itself into an absolute fundamental, and one-to-many correspond existed between the image and the object. Because this 'inner representation' is focused on essence and substance but an external form, the indicative function of meaning is inclusive and general. The 'metaphorical representation' means that image critically relates social constraint and condition as metaphor and allegory. In this case, the meaning of image is not subordinate to an object and a subject, and the image and the object indicate interactively. Because this 'metaphorical representation' is focused on interaction between subject, object, and interpreter, the indicative function of meaning is differant and ecological. This article focused on the representation because I believe that continuous thinking of totality can be opened by cognitive mapping, even though we never understand the world totally in the chaotic post modern age.

실습과정 구성요소의 의미작용에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Meaning Operation of the Factors Constitute the Course of Practice)

  • 실습은 이를 계획하고 실행하는 교육자와 실습의 대상인 학생간에 이루어지는 커뮤니케이션 과정이다. 실습과정에서의 커뮤니케이션 내용은 학생들에게 달성시키고자 하는 전공지식과 기술로서 교육자와 학생의 관계에서 전달과 수간의 절차가 관여한다. 이와 같이 실습과정의 커뮤니케이션이 교육자와 학생 그리고 실습의 내용을 통해서 이루어진다는 점에서 이들은 실습과정을 구성하는 의미의 대상이며 상호작용의 관계성을 형성하고 있다. 따라서 효과적인 실습과정을 계획하기 위해서는 실습과정을 구성하는 이들 의미대상의 관계에서 이루어지는 의미작용의 현상을 이해해야 하는 것이다. 본 연구는 이러한 문제인식을 가지고 실습의 과정에서 이들 의미대상이 형성하는 의미작용에 대한 현상적 분석에 접근하고자 하였다. 이러한 분석을 통해서 연구자는 실습과정에서 이들 의미대상이 가지고 있는 속성을 파악하고, 이들의 관계에서 발생하는 의미작용의 요인들을 해석함으로써 실습과정을 계획하는데 있어서 고려해야할 인식의 범주를 제시하였다.

  • We have attached importance to the values of spirit and immateriality. As the age of modernism of rationality ended, human being began to emphasize spiritual and immaterial while accepting multiplicity and diversification in the whole areas of society and culture. Hence interests have increased in another side of human spirit that was oppressed by rational, analytic, reasonable and scientific thinking, which has expanded the inner world of human being to the world of the unconscious. According to these paradigm changes, steady efforts to improve our lives better both materially and spiritually have been made in the areas of art and design. Therefore, the current study aims to examine the meaning of object expressed in space from the viewpoint of the unconscious, focusing on works of designer Philippe Starck after 2000 in which unique, preferential and liking characteristics are expressed well. Philippe Starck is a designer who connects design with our daily lives and formalizes it with creative ideas. Also the study theoretically explored the theory of the unconscious, a concept of Freudianism, based on 'Meaning of Dreams' of Freud, and explained the expressional characteristics and meaning of unconscious desire through his works by putting object in Philippe Starck's space. It aims to grope for the meaning of object as another possibility that can function as a spatial ruling element by analyzing object through expanding the extent of correlation and interpretation between human containing spiritual things and object which is the recognition subject in space of the present time, not a mere concept as substance like in the past, and expression of Starck's unconscious desire based on unconscious theory.

수학 교과에서의 교사와 학생 상호 주목하기(Noticing)에 관한 이해 (The Understanding on the Teacher and Student's Noticing in Mathematics Education)

  • This study tried to explore and understand the meaning, and the properties of noticing. The result of this study were first, the difference in mathematical noticing is distinguished in either the object which is paid attention is different or the object is same but differently interpreted or react. The cause of each difference could be described as mathematical objects such as conceptual objects and perceptual features. Second, teachers' teaching strategies, which narrow the gap in attention and play a key role in the formation of mathematical meaning, appeared in various places. This teaching strategy was implemented to distract students' attention. This study confirmed that the mathematical attention of teachers and students in math classes will differ depending on the object to which they pay attention, and that difference will be narrowed through teacher's discourse practice and teaching strategies through communication strategies.

재현에서 이미지로: 현대 미술비평의 탈재현 전략 (Toward Image: The politics of 'Non-representation' in contemporary art criticism)

  • The politics penetrating through the contemporary art since modernism to postmodernism is to accomplish the 'Non-representation' in the artworks. This study argues that postmodernism did not put an end to the formalistic feature of modernism but intended to accomplish it. Modernist art aimed at purity, i.e. self-referential and self-definition art advocated by Clement Greenberg, and it carne to the end by accomplishing flatness and materiality. It was an 'evasion to the matter' which allocated the object from visuality of outer object to the psychic image of the subject. It failed being 'non-representational' as what it really achieved was transition of object. Jean Baudrillard's theory tried to overcome the representational quality by 'being simulacre'. In the representative artworks of the past, the meaning of artworks was reverted under the outer context or object. The meaning again failed being 'Non-representational' as it was restored to the psychic image of the subject in modernist artworks where the definite illusion was demolished Meanwhile, artwork advocating simulacre acquired Non-representational quality by liberating from both models. It did not deconstruct the self-referential tendency of modernism but maximized the Non-representational modernistic principle. After creating 'Non-representation' through simulacre, the existential status and function of an artwork is the inclination and moral of contemporary art as 'Non-representation'. The image theory of Henri Bergson sets the existential status of 'image' as it does not belong to either subject nor object. It provides significant foundation for arguing the existential status of simulacre. Moreover, though an artwork as a fragment forming a movement image in the world cannot represent the object, it can however sustain certain kind of fractal resemblance with the world by letting the two parties communicate. The theory of sense by Gilles Deleuze is of profound significance as it specifically indicated way how the stage of absorption through the unity of subject and object is realized in forms of artworks, and configured the latent and invisible energy.

복식에 표현된 초현실주의 양식 및 그 변화에 대한 연구 (A Study of the Surrealism and its Change Expressed on Dress)

  • The concept of style including the external form and internal meaning provides a useful structure to clarify the historical phenomenon on dress. The purpose of this study was to explore surrealism related to the external form and internal meaning and the stylistic change of surrealism through 1930 and 1988 according the linked solution proposed by Brodsky. The results were as follows; 1. In terms of double roots including the external form and the internal meaning on the surrealism of dress, first, the external form was founded to be that each objects having symbolic meaning was dislocated from its original place to dress. Second, the aspects of internal meaning intended to represent not rational and external world but irrational as well as to reveal other nature of object or dress itself. 2. The change of surrealistic style on dress was characterised as "linked solution" change theory than cyclical change theory through the historical data from 1930 to 1988 of documentary sources.

의미의 소비와 산업디자인 (A Study on Industrial Design in an Era of Consuming Meaning)

  • Psychological phenomenon of human beings that are considered as creation of symbols endues various meanings to the objects and through this process, it develops society, culture and religion. This paper aims to examine the relationship between objects and human beings in the current circumstances that are summarized as "Pluralism" and "Age of Consumption". For this purpose, I introduced the semiology system and established the concept that is "Consumption of Meaning". The method that the meaning of goods as the modern objects is consumed is defined through three meaning analyses that are social, psychological and cultural. In addition, as defining how an object have its unique meaning, this paper creates the new interpretation on the role of industrial design that searches and constructs the existential area in the real world related to the creation and adjustment of meanings.

A Study on Iconic Animation based on Object Modeling Technique

  • We propose the iconic animation of the software requirement specifications by using the object and dynamic models of the object modeling technique(OMT) methodology. In order to produce the iconic animation, we use "graphical classes" and "icon transformations." In general, the graphical classes are defined for each class of the object diagram. The icon transformations which show the activities of the application are constructed by considering the meaning of the activities and are defined by either basic or compound icons. The icon transformations are added to the state diagrams to generate extended state diagrams. The animation system generates the header files and the code instantiating GUI from the object diagram having graphical classes. The system also generates "event methods" from the extended state diagrams. When the event methods are executed, the behavior of the events is animated by the icon transformations.

  • The understanding demands the different degree of the understanding according to student's learning situation. In this paper, we investigate what is the foundation for the complete understanding for the generalization in the generalization-process and justification of some concepts or some theories, through a case. We discovered that the completeness of the understanding in the generalization-process and justification requires 'the meaningful-mental object' which can give the meaning about the concept or theory to students. Students can do the generalization-process through the construction of 'the meaningful-mental object' and confirm the validity of generalization through 'the meaningful-mental object' which is constructed by them. And we can judge the whether students construct the completeness of the understanding or not, by 'the meaningful-mental object' of the student. Hence 'the meaningful-mental object' are vital condition for the generalization-process and justification.

빛 단원에서 반사와 굴절을 나타내는 화살표에 대한 중학생들의 개념 조사 (The Analysis of Middle Students' Conceptions on the Arrows Representing Reflection and Refraction in the Light Unit of Science Textbooks)

  • 이 연구의 목적은 7학년 과학 교과서의 빛 단원에 사용된 화살표의 유형을 분석하고, 화살표의 의미에 대한 중학생들의 개념을 알아보는 데 있다. 중학교 과학교과서 9종의 빛 단원에 사용된 화살표의 유형을 분류하고, 이를 바탕으로 검사도구를 개발하였다. 7학년 학생의 과학 성적에 따라 상, 중, 하 각 2명씩을 대상으로 하여 화살표의 개념을 어떻게 인식하고 있는지 면담법으로 조사하였다. 중학교 과학교과서의 빛 단원에 사용된 화살표의 유형은 물체에서 나온 빛이 눈에 도달하는 과정에 따라 4가지로 나눌 수 있었다. 화살표의 점선과 실선에 대한 개념 이해는 과학성적에 따라 서로 다르게 나타나는 경향을 보였다. 빛이 평면 거울면에 반사하거나 공기와 물의 경계면에서 굴절하여 우리 눈에 들어오는 빛의 경로를 표현할 때, 물체에서 나온 화살표의 실선과 물체가 위치하고 있다고 인식하는 화살표의 점선의 의미를 명확히 제시하여 가르치는 것이 필요하다.
