Starting with the meaning of the word quality, diverse concepts connoted by the term are examined. Instead of a bathtub curve, the desirable shape of a failure rate covering the entire life of a good product, which might be called hockey-stick line, is introduced. From the hockey-stick line and the definition of reliability, two measurements are extracted. The terms r-reliability (failure rate) and durability (product life) are explained. The conceptual analysis of failure mechanics explains that reliability technology pertains to design area. The desirable shape of hazard rate curve of electronic items, hockey-stick line, clarifies that Mean-Time-to-failure (MTTF) as the inverse of failure rate can be regarded a nominal life. And Bx life, different from MTTF, is explained. Reliability relationships between components and set products are explained. Reshaped definitions of r-reliability and durability are recommended. The procedure to improve reliability and the reasons for failing to identify failure mode are clarified in order to search right solutions. And generalized Life-Stress failure model is recommended for the calculation of acceleration factor.
Incorporating the fully quantum mechanical computation of scattering cross-section and statistical moment analysis of absorption profiles, we investigate the Lyman line asymmetry of extremely high column density systems. Recent high redshift observations detected strong damped Lyman alpha systems (DLAs) whose column density is larger than N_HI ~ [10]^21.3 cm^(-2). Absorption profiles of these DLAs are characterized by the broad and asymmetric damping wing. For accurate description of radiation damping, the second-order time-dependent perturbation theory is adopted. To quantitatively address line asymmetry, we define a distribution function for each Lyman line, and compute statistical moments (mean, standard deviation, skewness and kurtosis) regarding column densities N_HI > [10]^18 cm^(-2). In this work, we present statistical properties of the intrinsic line profiles, and compare them with the Lorentzian cases.

In this paper, we measured and analyzed propagation characteristics in a subway tunnel that is recently increasingly becoming one of the radio communication environments. The measurements are carried out in a subway tunnel with frequency bands of 2.45㎓ and 5.8㎓. The length of tunnel we used for this study is 175m of LOS (Line-of-sight) and 270m of NLOS (Non Line-of-Sight). The subway tunnel is curved and its cross section is horseshoe type. The measurement systems we employ in this study are a narrow-band system and a wide-band system. The narrow-band system is used to get path loss measurement and the wide-band system is used to figure out delay profile measurement. In particular, the wide-band system consists of 1023 length PN sequence generator using a chip rate of 80MHz based on a sliding correlation technique. The omni-directional antennas and directional antennas are used to analyze propagation characteristics for beam type of antenna. The path loss displays only pure path loss of a tunnel environment. The delay profile indicates the mean excess delay and RMS (root mean square) delay spread.
Purpose : A new method of lateral cephalometric analysis for midface, focusing on zygomatic bone, was created in this study, and measured in Korean adults. The purposes of this study are understanding about new approach for midfacial depression, especially zygomatic bone, and using to make adequate diagnosis and treatment plan. Materials and methods : In this study, esthetic Korean adults, 25 males and 25 females who were between $0^{\circ}$ and $4^{\circ}$ in ${\angle}ANB$, and between 62% and 70% in P/A facial height ratio, and had normal overbite and overjet, were used. Orbitale(Or) and Soft tissue orbitale(Or') were used for indicators of anteroposterior position of zygomatic area. And, mean value and standard deviation of linear and angular measurements, and ratio about each linear measurements, were obtained. then, standard deviation diagram - wiggle diagram - was made for visualization of results. Results : Mean values, standard deviations and ranges of 19 measurements were obtained, and among them, 5 linear measurements that had large standard deviation were excluded and the others were used for making standard deviation diagram. In standard deviation diagram, the following results were obtained. 1. If the measurements are located on more left side of mean-value-vertical -line, the potential of midfacial hypoplasia are stronger, especially zygomatic area. 2. If the measurements are located on more right side of mean-value-vertical-line, the potential of midfacial hypoplasia are decreased. Conclusion : This study presented a new method of lateral cephalometric analysis focusing on zygomatic bone in Korean adults. We expect that the results of this study can be used as parameter when clinicians make decisions about diagnosis and treatment plan for rehabilitation of esthetics and function. But, it is necessary to prove its usefulness, and to further evaluate the results.
During the past decade, many electrical transmission tower structures have failed during downburst events. This study is a part of a research program aimed to understand the behaviour of transmission lines under such localized wind events. The present study focuses on the assessment of the dynamic behaviour of the line conductors under downburst loading. A non-linear numerical model, accounting for large deformations and the effect of pretension loading, is developed and used to predict the natural frequencies and mode shapes of conductors at various loading stages. A turbulence signal is extracted from a set of full-scale data. It is added to the mean component of the downburst wind field previously evaluated from a CFD analysis. Dynamic analysis is performed using various downburst configurations. The study reveals that the response is affected by the background component, while the resonant component turns to be negligible due large aerodynamic damping of the conductors.

We are concerned with estimating the average performance of a re-entrant line with single-job machines and batch machines. The system has multiclass jobs, which will be processed in predetermined routes. An analytical approach may be intractable since the system would not be modeled by product form queueing networks due to the inclusion of batch machines and the consideraton of multiclass jobs which have different processing times. We propose an approximation method based on the Mean Value Analysis(MVA). Our method obtains the mean walting time in each buffer of a workstation and the mean cycle time using the MVA and heuristics. numerical experiments show that the errors of our method are within 5% compared with simulation.
Jurassic granite from Geochang was analysed with respect to the characteristics of the rock cleavage. The multicriteria evaluation for the six directions of rock cleavages was performed using the microcrack spacing-related parameters derived from the enlarged photomicrographs (${\times}6.7$) of the thin section and the spacing-cumulative frequency diagrams. The results of analysis for the representative values of these spacing parameters with respect to the rock cleavage are summarized as follows. First, the analysis for deriving the main parameter indicating the order of arrangement among six diagrams was performed. The values of five parameters with respect to six directions of the rock cleavages were arranged in increasing or decreasing order for the above analysis. The decreasing order of the values of main parameter(mean spacing-median spacing, $S_{mean}-S_{median}$) and mean spacing are consistent with the order of H1, H2, G1, G2, R1 and R2 directions. These sequential arrangements of six directions of the rock cleavages can provide a basis for those of the six diagrams related to spacing. Second, the nine correlation charts between the above main parameter and various parameters were arranged in decreasing order of correlation coefficient ($R^2$). These related charts shows a high correlation of power-law function in common. The values of mean spacing, density (${\rho}$) and length of line oa are directly proportional to the value of main parameter, while the values of constant (a), exponent (${\lambda}$), spacing frequency (N), length of line oa', slope of exponential straight line (${\theta}$) and total length ($1mm{\geq}$) are inverse proportional. Third, the results of correlation analysis between the values of parameters for three planes and those for three rock cleavages are as follows. The values of frequency, total spacing, constant, exponent, slope and length of line oa' for three planes and three rock cleavages show an order of R' < G' < H' and H < G < R, respectively. On the other hand, the values of mean spacing, (mean spacing-median spacing), density and length of line oa show an order of H' < G' < R' and R < G < H, respectively. The correlation of the mutually reverse order of the values of parameters between three planes and three rock cleavages can be drawn. This type of correlation analysis is useful for discriminating three quarrying planes.
Electrowetting is a versatile tool to handle tiny droplets and forms a backbone of digital microfluidics. Numerical analysis is necessary to fully understand the dynamics of electrowetting, especially in designing electrowetting-based devices, such as liquid lenses and reflective displays. We developed a numerical method to analyze the general contact-line problems, incorporating dynamic contact angle models. The method is based on the conservative level set method to capture the interface of two fluids without loss of mass. We applied the method to the analysis of spreading process of a sessile droplet for step input voltages and oscillation of the droplet for alternating input voltages in electrowetting. The result was compared with experimental data. It is shown that contact line friction significantly affects the contact line motion and the oscillation amplitude. The pinning process of contact line was well represented by including the hysteresis effect in the contact angle models. In level set method, in the mean time, material properties are made to change smoothly across an interface of two materials with different properties by introducing an interpolation or smoothing scheme. So far, the weighted arithmetic mean (WAM) method has been exclusively adopted in level set method, without complete assessment for its validity. We viscosity, thermal conductivity, electrical conductivity, and permittivity, can be an alternative. I.e., the WHM gives more accurate results than the WAM method in certain circumstances. The interpolation scheme should be selected considering various characteristics including type of property, ratio of property of two fluids, geometry of interface, and so on.
Clothing shape is principally described in seven factors that are composed of clothing design, clothing material, clothing size, pattern design, sewing method and body motion etc.. The aims of this study was to measurement out-line space-shape variation of clothing fitness with somato type by using the image processing. The subjects for direct anthropometric measurements were 248 female college students aged from 19 to 22. The data were statistically analyzed by principal analysis and cluster analysis. The results were obtained three somato type. Also I made skirts in order to analyzed to the out-line space-shape variation of clothing fitness with body. The effect of somato type on the shape of flare skirts was determined by the out-line space-shape variation of clothing fitness with body. The out-line space-shape variation of clothing fitness with body was observed between the node number and amplitudes of clothing wave form and node number was determined at the maxim of space-shape amplitude, and the space-shape amplitudes have related with aspect ratio of cross-sectional shape. Results for flare skirts show changes in amplitude and mean with fabrics, somato type. therefore gray-level histogram are correlated with changes out-line space-shape, differences in drape spacing and related fabric properties and their somato type. Grease thermal elastohydrodynamic lubrication (TEHL) problems of line contacts are analyzed numerically. The effects of temperature and rheological paraineters on grease TEHL are investigated using the Herschel-Bulkley model as a theological model of greases. The pressure distribution, the shape of grease film, mean film temperature and surface temperature of solid wall in line contacts are obtained. It is found that thermal effects on the minimum film thickness become remarkable at high rolling speeds. The effect of yield stress of Herschel-Bulkley model on minimum film thickness is negligible, while the theological index and viscosity parameter have significant effects on minimum film thickness.
