  • The importance of left truncated and right censoring cases has considered for better information in medical follow-up and engineering life testing studies. We propose some estimation procedure for the mean residual life function with consistency and asymptotic normality on the left truncated and right censoring model. And then, the comparision with Kaplan-Meier estimator ignoring the left truncated effect and the small sample properities are investigated by asymptotic biases and M.S.E.'s thresh Monte Carlo study.

  • We show how comparative mean residual life functions (MRL) can be used to give unique insights into strengths of materials data. Recall that Weibull's original reliability function was developed studying and fitting strengths for various materials. This creative comparing of MRL functions approach can be used for regular life data or any time to response data. We apply graphical MRL's to real data from tests of tensile strength of high quality engineered wood.

  • In this paper, for whole line ($0,\;{\infty}$), the estimation procedure of mean residual life function using product-limit estimator is studied with asymptotic properties. And also, the small sample properties of proposed estimator of MRLF are investigated through Monte Carlo study and compared with Kaplan-Meier type estimator.

  • We propose a smoothing estimator of mean residual life function based on Ghorai and Susarla's (1990) smooth estimator of distribution function under random censorship model and provide the asymptotic properties of this estimator. The Monte Carlo simulation is performed to compare the proposed estimator with the other estimators and an exmple is also given using the real data.

  • Typical confidence intervals for a mean or mean residual life (MRL) are centered about the mean or mean residual life. We discuss novel confidence intervals that produce statements like "we are 95% confident that the MRL function, e(t), is greater than a prespecified $\mu_o$ for all t in the interval [0, $\hat{\theta})$)" where $\hat{\theta}$ is determined from the sample data, confidence level, and $\mu_o$. Also, we can have statements like 'we are 95% confident that the MRL of population 1, namely $e_1$(t), is greater than the MRL of population 2, $e_2$(t), for all t in the interval [0, $\hat{\theta}$)" where $\hat{\theta}$ is determined from the sample data and confidence level. We illustrate these one and two sample confidence intervals on internal bonds (tensile strengths) for an important modem engineered wood product, called medium density fiberboard (MDF), used internationally.

  • In this article, a new model based on the Rayleigh distribution is introduced. This model is useful and practical in physics, reliability, and life testing. The statistical and reliability properties of this model are presented, including moments, the hazard rate, the reversed hazard rate, and mean residual life functions, among others. In addition, it is shown that the distributions of the new model are ordered regarding the strongest likelihood ratio ordering. Four estimating methods, namely, method of moment, maximum likelihood method, Bayes estimation, and uniformly minimum variance unbiased, are used to estimate the parameters of this model. Simulation is used to calculate the estimates and to study their properties. Finally, the appropriateness of this model for real data sets is shown by using the chi-square goodness of fit test and the Kolmogorov-Smirnov statistic.

  • In this paper we propose a nonparametric estimator of the men residual life function (MRLF) on a coherent system under the condition that the component lifetimes are censored by system lifetime. It is shown that the proposed estimator, considered as a function of age t, converges weakly to a Gaussian process on a fixed interval. A consistent estimator of asymptotic variance of the proposed estimator is also given.

  • Recently, Sati and Gupta (2015) proposed two measures of uncertainty based on non-extensive entropy, called the dynamic cumulative residual Tsallis entropy (DCRTE) and the empirical cumulative Tsallis entropy. In the present paper, we extend the definition of DCRTE into the bivariate setup and study its properties in the context of reliability theory. We also define a new class of life distributions based on bivariate DCRTE.

  • In this paper we propose a parametric and a nonparametric small sample estimators for the mean residual life (MRL) under the random censorship model using the partial moment approximation. We also compare the proposed nonparametric estimator with the well-known nonparametric MRL estimator based on Kaplan-Meier estimator of the survival function, and present the efficiency of the nonparametric method relative to the Weibull model for small samples.

  • In this paper we develop a test for alternatives representing decreasing mean residual life. The test statistic for decreasing mean residual life, $K_{1n}$, is a modified version of Hollander and Proschan's test $V^*$ and critical constants and large sample approximation are shown to make the test readily applicable. Consistency is also shown for the tests based on $K_{1n}$. And small sample powers for four alernatives are obtained.
