  • In this paper, we propose a sequential motion vector recovery algorithm for H.264 video coding standard. Motion vectors of H.264 video coding standard cover relatively smaller areas than other standard, since motion estimation of H.264 takes place in the fashion of variable block size. Therefore, the correlation of motion vectors between neighboring blocks increases as the block size of motion estimation is lowered. Under the framework of sequential recovery, we introduce a motion vector recovery using $\alpha$-trimed mean filter. Experimental results show that proposed algorithm is useful in real time video delivery .with nearly comparable or better visual quality than previous approaches such as macro block boundary matching and Lagrage interpolation.

  • This paper illustratesthe impact of the temporal gap between satellite images and targetsize in mesoscale atmospheric motion vector (AMV) algorithm. A test has been performed using GEO-KOMPSAT-2A (GK2A) rapid-scan data sets with a temporal gap varying between 2 and 10 minutes and a targetsize between 8×8 and 40×40. Resultsshow the variation of the number of AMVs produced, mean AMV speed, and validation scores as a function of temporal gap and target size. As a results, it was confirmed that the change in the number of vectors and the normalized root-mean squared vector difference (NRMSVD) became more pronounced when smaller targets are used. In addition, it was advantageous to use shorter temporal gap and smaller target size for the AMV calculation in the lower layer, where the average speed is low and the spatio-temporal scale of atmospheric phenomena is small. The temporal gap and the targetsize are closely related to the spatial and temporalscale of the atmospheric circulation to be observed with AMVs. Thus, selecting the target size and temporal gap for an optimum calculation of AMVsrequires considering them. This paper recommendsthat the optimized configuration to be used operationally for the near-real time analysis of mesoscale meteorological phenomena is 4-min temporal gap and 16×16 pixel target size, respectively.

  • In this paper, we propose an object tracking algorithm based on color histogram and convolutional neural network model. In order to increase the tracking accuracy, we synthesize generic object tracking using regression network algorithm which is one of the convolutional neural network model-based tracking algorithms and a mean-shift tracking algorithm which is a color histogram-based algorithm. Both algorithms are classified through support vector machine and designed to select an algorithm with higher tracking accuracy. The mean-shift tracking algorithm tends to move the bounding box to a large range when the object tracking fails, thus we improve the accuracy by limiting the movement distance of the bounding box. Also, we improve the performance by initializing the tracking start positions of the two algorithms based on the average brightness and the histogram similarity. As a result, the overall accuracy of the proposed algorithm is 1.6% better than the existing generic object tracking using regression network algorithm.

  • Let M be a connected n-dimensional submanifold of a Euclidean space $E^{n+k}$ equipped with the induced metric and ${\Delta}$ its Laplacian. If the position vector x of M is decomposed as a sum of three vectors $x=x_1+x_2+x_0$ where two vectors $x_1$ and $x_2$ are non-constant eigenvectors of the Laplacian, i.e., ${\Delta}x_i={\lambda}_ix_i$, i = 1, 2 (${\lambda}_i{\in}R$) and $x_0$ is a constant vector, then, M is called a 2-type submanifold. In this paper we proved that a connected 2-type hypersurface M in $E^{n+1}$ whose postion vector x satisfies ${\langle}{\Delta}x,x-x_0{\rangle}=c$ for a constant c, where ${\langle}$, ${\rangle}$ is the usual inner product in $E^{n+1}$, is of null 2-type and has constant mean curvature and scalar curvature.

  • In this paper, we propose a fine-grained mobile application clustering model using retrofitted document embedding. To automatically determine the clusters and their numbers with no predefined categories, the proposed model initializes the clusters based on title keywords and then merges similar clusters. For improved clustering performance, the proposed model distinguishes between an accurate clustering step with titles and an expansive clustering step with descriptions. During the accurate clustering step, an automatically tagged set is constructed as a result. This set is utilized to learn a high-performance document vector. During the expansive clustering step, more applications are then classified using this document vector. Experimental results showed that the purity of the proposed model increased by 0.19, and the entropy decreased by 1.18, compared with the K-means algorithm. In addition, the mean average precision improved by more than 0.09 in a comparison with a support vector machine classifier.

  • Steel girders are the structural members often used for passing long spans. Mostly being subjected to patch loading, or concentrated loading, steel girders are likely to face sudden deformation or damage e.g., web breathing. Horizontal or vertical stiffeners are employed to overcome this phenomenon. This study aims at assessing the feasibility of a machine learning method, namely the support vector machines (SVM) in predicting the patch loading resistance of longitudinally stiffened webs. A database consisting of 162 test data is utilized to develop SVM models and the model with best performance is selected for further inspection. Existing formulations proposed by other researchers are also investigated for comparison. BS5400 and other existing models (model I, model II and model III) appear to yield underestimated predictions with a large scatter; i.e., mean experimental-to-predicted ratios of 1.517, 1.092, 1.155 and 1.256, respectively; whereas the selected SVM model has high prediction accuracy with significantly less scatter. Robust nature and accurate predictions of SVM confirms its feasibility of potential use in solving complex engineering problems.

  • This paper describes a new hierarchial block matching algorithm especially appropriate for a large search area. The proposed algorithm consists of higher level search for an initial motion vector estimate by using a new matching criterion over the evenly subsampled search points, and lower level search for the final motion vector refinement. In the higher level matching criterion, mean absolute differences at the search points (or motion vector candidates) similar to motion vectors of causally neighboring blocks, are weighted properly so that these points can have a higher chance to being selected. The proposed algorithm outperforms existing hierarchical block matching algorithms, and its computational regularity makes hardware implementation simple.

  • The maximum weight of single stock in mutual fund is limited by regulations to enforce diversification. Under incomplete information with added constraints on portfolio weights, enhanced performance had been reported in previous researches. We analyze a weight vector to examine the effects of additional constraints on the portfolio's performance by computing the Euclidean distance from the in-sample tangency portfolio, as opposed to previous researches which analyzed ex-post return only. Empirical experiment was performed on Mean-variance and Minimum-variance model with Fama French's 30 industry portfolio and 10 industry portfolio for the last 1,000 months from August 1932 to November 2015. We find that diversification-constrained portfolios have 7% to 26% smaller Euclidean distances with the benchmark portfolio compared to those of unconstrained portfolios and 3% to 11% greater Sharpe Ratio.

  • In this paper, the comparison of speech feature parameters for emotion recognition is studied for emotion recognition using speech signal. For this purpose, a corpus of emotional speech data recorded and classified according to the emotion using the subjective evaluation were used to make statical feature vectors such as average, standard deviation and maximum value of pitch and energy. MFCC parameters and their derivatives with or without cepstral mean subfraction are also used to evaluate the performance of the conventional pattern matching algorithms. Pitch and energy Parameters were used as a Prosodic information and MFCC Parameters were used as phonetic information. In this paper, In the Experiments, the vector quantization based emotion recognition system is used for speaker and context independent emotion recognition. Experimental results showed that vector quantization based emotion recognizer using MFCC parameters showed better performance than that using the Pitch and energy parameters. The vector quantization based emotion recognizer achieved recognition rates of 73.3% for the speaker and context independent classification.
