Performance Evaluation of VSDA Blind Equalization Algorithm for 16-QAM Signal (16-QAM 신호에 대한 VSDA 블라인드 등화 알고리즘의 성능 평가)

  • This paper relates with the VSDA (Variable stepsize Square contour Decision directed Algorithm) adaptive equalization algorithm that is used for the minimization of the intersymbol interference due to the distortion which occurs in the time dispersive channel for the transmission of 16-QAM signal.. In the conventional SCA, it is possible to compensates the amplitude and phase in the received signal that are mixed with the intersymbol interference by the constellatin dependent constant by using the 2nd order statistics of the transmitted signal. But in the VSDA, it is possible to the increasing the equalization performance by adding the concept of distance adjusted approach for constellation matching and the cost function of decision directed. We compare the performance of VSDA and SCA algorithm by the computer simulation. For this, the equalizer output signal constellation, residual isi, maximum distortion and MSE were used in the performace index. As a result of computer simulation, the VSDA algorithm has better than the SCA in convergence speed, but it gives nearly same equalization performance in other index.

A Fast Sub-pel Motion Estimation Scheme using a Parabolic SAD Model

  • Sub-pel level motion estimation contributes to significant increase in R-D performance for H.264|MPEG 4 Part 10 AVC. However, several supplements, such as interpolation, block matching, and Hadamard transform which entails large computational complexity of encoding process, are essential to find best matching block in sub-pel level motion estimation and compensation. In this paper, a fast motion estimation scheme in sub-pel accuracy is proposed based on a parabolic model of SAD to avoid such computational complexity. In the proposed scheme, motion estimation (ME) is only performed in integer-pel levels and the following sub-pel level motion vectors are found from the parametric SAD model for which the model parameters are estimated from the SAD values obtained in the integer-pel levels. Fall-back check is performed to ensure the validity of the parabolic SAD model with the estimated parameters. The experiment result shows that the proposed scheme can reduce the motion estimation time up to about 30% of the total ME times in average with negligible amount of PSNR drops (0.14dB in maximum) and bit increments (2.54%in maximum).

  • Rifling force has a torsion impulse effect on the gun tube and thus generates undesirable vibration of the gun tube about its bore axis, putting additional stress on the projectile. High rifling force at the muzzle of the gun tube may adversely influence the trajectory of the projectile. And, the service life of rifled gun barrels is known to depend on the rifling force. Rifling force along the path of the projectile in the longitudinal direction of the gun tube can be described with projectile mass, projectile velocity, gas pressure curve and rifling angle. Under the same conditions, the character of the rifling of the gun barrel decisively influences the rifling force curve. To reduce the above mentioned harmful effect, locally distinct maximum of rifling force has to be avoided and maximum rifling force needs to be minimized. The best way to minimize the maximum rifling force is to design a rifling angle function so that the rifling force curve has a near trapezoidal shape. In this paper a new approach to make the optimal rifling force curve is described. The rifling angle determining the rifling force is developed by combined Fourier series and polynomial function to satisfy both the convergence and boundary condition matching problems.

  • In this paper, we propose the method of controling the turns of a receiving coil for the matching directly to the receiver input impedance(typically $50{\Omega}$) with a maximum wireless power transfer(WPT) efficiency. Based on the presented the expression of the optimum load depending on a system figure of merit, number of the turns of a receiving coil, and proximity effect between conducting lines, the theoretical efficiencies have been compared with the measured ones with a good agreement. The results of this work may be used to realize a allowable maximum efficiency with a simple and low-profile 2-coil WPT system not requiring a separate feeding loop.

  • The maximum spreading is the maximum extent to which a drop can spread after impacting on a surface. It is one of the crucial factors determining the spraying performance in many applications. In this study, the existing maximum spreading models for a Newtonian liquid droplet impacting on a dry solid surface were reviewed and compared with the experimental results over the ranges of $4{\leq}Re{\leq}11700$, $23{\leq}We{\leq}786$, and $37.9^{\circ}{\leq}{\theta}_s{\leq}107.1^{\circ}$. The surface wettability was found to have only a minor influence on the maximum spreading, compared to the liquid viscosity and impact velocity. Among the models tested, the Roisman (2009) model showed the best agreement with the experimental results, matching 80% of the measured data within ${\pm}5%$.

  • The most important factor of mobile robot is to build a map for surrounding environment and estimate its localization. This paper proposes a real-time localization and map building method through 3-D reconstruction using scale invariant feature from monocular camera. Mobile robot attached monocular camera looking wall extracts scale invariant features in each image using SIFT(Scale Invariant Feature Transform) as it follows wall. Matching is carried out by the extracted features and matching feature map that is transformed into absolute coordinates using 3-D reconstruction of point and geometrical analysis of surrounding environment build, and store it map database. After finished feature map building, the robot finds some points matched with previous feature map and find its pose by affine parameter in real time. Position error of the proposed method was maximum. 8cm and angle error was within $10^{\circ}$.

A Quality Assessment Method of Biometrics for Estimating Authentication Result in User Authentication System (사용자 인증시스템의 인증결과 예측을 위한 바이오정보의 품질평가기법)

  • In this paper, we propose a quality assessment method of biometrics for estimating an authentication result in an user authentication system. The proposed quality assessment method is designed to compute a quality score called CIMR (Confidence Interval Matching Ratio) as a result by small-sample analysis like T-test. We use the C/MR-based quality assessment method for testing how to well draw a distinction between various biometrics in a multimodal biometric system. We also test a predictability for authentication results of obtained biometrics using the mean $\bar{X}$ and the variance $s^2$ in T-test-based CIMR. As a result, we achieved the maximum 88% accuracy for estimation of user authentication results.

  • In this paper, the algorithm discriminating the existence and nonexistence of bolts and nuts using image processing in an automobile T-Bar influencing the vibration of a frame, is introduced. To distinct whether bolts and nuts exist or not, the features of bolts and nuts are learned, and then these feature values are matched using a statistical pattern matching algorithm. Furthermore, the minimum and maximum variation rate of pixel values are used since the matching rate is low with the large variation of pixel values of bolts and nuts in each image. The proposed method in this paper is very efficient in the automation of inspection requiring real time since the inspection time is significantly reduced compared with the conventional methods.

  • In the design of underwater electro acoustic transducer, power factor improvement circuit is more required rather than impedance matching if the driving power amplifier has little inner resistance. Many research results have been focused on the power matching circuit designing for transferring maximum power in the wideband. There are few results in the designing study on the power factor improvement for the wide band underwater electro acoustic transducer. In this paper, we set up a new design method on the power factor improvement for the wide band electro acoustic transducer, and confirm its feasibility by the experiments.
