  • The metal indicator, acidic azo dyes NN, EBT and Calcon are utilized to analyse quantitatively chlorpheniramine, tripelenamine and diphenhydramine forming insoluble ion pair in aqueous solution at proper pH values between the acidic azo dyes and the sample molecules, these compexes are extracted by organic polar solvents, and organic layer is determined spectrophotometrically. Generally, the absorption maxima of the complexes are shifted to longer wavelengths compare to the absorption maxima of the dyes themselves. The binding ratio of the ion pair forming complex molecules in chloroform soln, are as follows ; NN-antihistamines (chlorpheniramine, tripelennamine, diphenhydramine) are NN-1 to antihisamine-1, EBT-antihistamines are EBT-2 to antithistamines a and Calcon-antihistamines are Calcon-3 to antithistamines-1. These coomplexes in chloroform soln. are very stable, and show higher absorbance than the other organic polar solvents. The binding state of complexes were presumed intermolecular hydrogen bond by their infrared spectra. In the mixture solution of three samples, the aqueous phase is buffered at pH 1.0, and benzene is used to extract ion pair of diphenhydramine EBT complex selectively. At pH 1.0 of aqueous layer, Calon-diphenhydramine complex is also extracted selectively by benzene. However, in this case very small amount of chlorpheniramine-calcon calcon simultaneously. The binding state of diphenhydramine-EBT and diphenhydramine-calcon in benzene are smae as the complexes in chloroform. But the absorption maxima of the complexes in benzene are shifted to shorter wavelenlgths than the complexes in chloroform.

  • In the course of survey of endophytic fungi from Bangladesh pumpkin seeds in 2011~2012, two strains (CNU111042 and CNU111043) with similar colony characteristics were isolated and characterized by their morphology and by molecular phylogenetic analysis of the internal transcribed spacer, glyceraldehydes-3-phosphate dehydrogenase (gpd), and Alternaria allergen a1 (Alt a1) sequences. Phylogenetic analysis of all three sequences and their combined dataset revealed that the fungus formed a subclade within the A. alternata clade, matching A. burnsii and showing differences with its other closely related Alternaria species, such as A. longipes, A. tomato, and A. tomaticola. Long ellipsoid, obclavate or ovoid beakless conidia, shorter and thinner conidial size ($16{\sim}60[90]{\times}6.5{\sim}14[{\sim}16]{\mu}m$) distinguish this fungus from other related species. These isolates showed more transverse septation (2~11) and less longitudinal septation (0~3) than did other related species. Moreover, the isolate did not produce any diffusible pigment on media. Therefore, our results reveal that the newly recorded fungus from a new host, Cucurbita maxima, is Alternaria burnsii Uppal, Patel & Kamat.

  • The present study investigated the critical thermal maxima (CTmax) of red-spotted grouper, Epinephelus akaara under different acclimation temperatures (Tacc). Fish were acclimated at 24℃, 28℃, and 32℃ water temperature for 2 weeks. Water temperature was increased at a rate of 1℃/h and CTmax level was measured following the critical thermal methodology (Paladino et al., 1980). The results showed that CTmax values of E. akaara were 35.61℃, 36.83℃, and 37.65℃ for fish acclimated at 24℃, 28℃, and 32℃, respectively. The acclimation response ratio (ARR) was 0.26. The CTmax values were significantly correlated with body size. Collectively, it is said that the CTmax value of red-spotted grouper can be affected by different adaptation temperature (24℃, 28℃, and 32℃) and the fish acclimated to a higher temperature has a higher CTmax level. Besides, the CTmax value of 35.61℃-37.65℃ indicating the upper thermal tolerance limit for E. akaara under different Tacc (24℃, 28℃, and 32℃). Understanding the thermal tolerance of E. akaara is of ecological importance in the conservation of this species.

  • Three parameters, body weight gain (BWG), intestinal lesion score (LS) and fecal oocyst shedding, were compared in broilers infected with major parasitic species; Eimeria acervulina, E. maxima, and E. tenella. First, two- and three-week-old chickens with Eimeria infection showed LS of approximately 3, but two-week-old chickens were more correlated with BWG. Second, significant differences in BWG were observed between male and female broilers challenged with Eimeria. Finally, E. maxima-infected broilers among three Eimeria species showed a higher relationship between BWG and LS, suggesting three considerations such as genders, age and Eimeria species for Eimeria experiments.

  • 19 strains, which could be identified as Lactobacillus sp. were isolated. The Cucurbita maxima has been known as a traditional healthy food and variable positive effects on the human body were already reported. In this study we tried to develop a production process for a healthy fermented drink with Cucurbita maxima and strains originated from Kimchi. Many kinds of lacctobacci species existed in the fermented food cannot survive in the acidic conditions in the stomach. So we tried to search and select a strain, which can arrive to the small intestine. A species of a Lactobacillus named as C332 was identifed as Lactobacillus plantarum and selected for the fermentation process. With the treatment with artificial gastric juice and artificial bile the survival rate of the cells could be calculated. The physiological characteristics at the variable conditions have been tested. After fermentation process the sensoric tests on the product with panels were tried. The most of the cells could survive in the acidic conditions and falcultive anaerobe. Especially some antibacterial effects aganinst E.coli were also found. With all kinds of the results from our research the fermented Cucurbita maxima drink can be a successful item in the market.

  • The heat transfer and flow measurements on a pedestal encountered in chip cooling. A uniform wall temperature boundary condition at the plate surface and on a pedestal was created using shroud method. Liquid crystal was used to measure the plate surface temperature. The jet Reynolds number (Re) ranges from 11,000 to 50,000, the dimensionless nozzle-to-surface distance (L/d) from 2 to 10, and the dimensionless pedestal diameter-to-height (H/D) from 0 to 1.0. The results show that the Nusselt number distributions at the near the pedestal exhibit secondary maxima at $r/d{\cong}1.0\;and\;1.5$. The formation of the secondary maxima is attributed to an create in the vortex by the pedestal.

  • Considering heat transfer and heat loss processes for the heat engine operating between two fixed heat reservoirs, it may be qualitatively explained that the maxima of power output and its efficiency depending upon operating conditions are extreme maxima. Furthermore, it is also found that from an economic point of view the above two extremes are related to extreme minima of plant cost per unit power output and operation cost per unit power output respectively, and the condition of minimum cost per unit power output exists between the extreme minimum conditions of plant cost per unit power output and that of operation cost per unit power output.

  • Solar ultraviolet-A (UV-A) irradiances indicent on a horizontal surface at Taegu of Korea during 1995-1998 were calculated with 5 min averages of measurements taken every 30 seconds by a broadband UV- A sensor. The maximum and minimum of monthly averages of daily UV-A dose were 499.37 KJ m-2 day-1 inJuly and 171.09 KJ m--2 day-1 in December for 4 years of the observation period. The maxima of daily UV-A dose and instandaneous UV-A were observed as 846.46KJ m-2 day-1 June 7, 1998 and 37.22 W m-2 at 12 : 15, July 16, 1998, respectively. Increasing trends in annual maxima of daily UV-A dose and instantaneous UV-A were averaged to 6.4% and 6.7% , respectively, per year during 1995-1998 at Taegu, Korea.

  • In this paper, with optimal normalized constants, the asymptotic expansions of the distribution and density of the normalized maxima from generalized Maxwell distribution are derived. For the distributional expansion, it shows that the convergence rate of the normalized maxima to the Gumbel extreme value distribution is proportional to 1/ log n. For the density expansion, on the one hand, the main result is applied to establish the convergence rate of the density of extreme to its limit. On the other hand, the main result is applied to obtain the asymptotic expansion of the moment of maximum.
