  • This paper presents new results on delay-dependent global exponential stability for uncertain linear systems with interval time-varying delay. Based on Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional approach, some novel delay-dependent stability criteria are derived in terms of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs) involving the minimum and maximum delay bounds. By using delay-partitioning method and the lower bound lemma, less conservative results are obtained with fewer decision variables than the existing ones. Numerical examples are given to illustrate the usefulness and effectiveness of the proposed method.

  • In this paper, we consider the global exponential stability of cellular neural networks with time-varying delays. Based on the Lyapunov function method and convex optimization approach, a novel delay-dependent criterion of the system is derived in terms of LMI (linear matrix inequality). In order to solve effectively the LMI convex optimization problem, the interior point algorithm is utilized in this work. Two numerical examples are given to show the effectiveness of our results.

  • This paper deals with the problem of estimating the asymptotic stability region(ASR) of uncertain variable structure systems with bounded control. Using linear matrix inequalities(LMIs) we estimate the ASR and we show the exponential stability of the closed-loop control system in the estimated ASR. We show that our estimate is always better than the estimate of [3].

  • This paper presents a new two-point approximation method based on the exponential intervening variable. To avoid the lack of definition of the conventional exponential intervening variables due to zero- or negative-valued design variables the shifting level into each exponential intervening variable is introduced. Then a new quadratic approximation, whose Hessian matrix has only diagonal elements of different values, is proposed in terms of these intervening variables. These diagonal elements are computed in a closed form, which correct the typical error in the approximate gradient of the TANA series due to the lack of definition of exponential type intervening variables and their incomplete second-order terms. Also, a correction coefficient is multiplied to the pre-determined quadratic term to match the value of approximate function with that of the original function at the previous point. Finally, the authors developed a sequential approximate optimizer, solved several typical design problems used in the literature and compared these optimization results with those of TANA-3. These comparisons show that the proposed method gives more efficient and reliable results than TANA-3.

  • For efficient mechanical system optimization, a new two-point approximation method is presented. Unlike the conventional two-point approximation methods such as TPEA, TANA, TANA-1, TANA-2 and TANA-3, this introduces the shifting level into each exponential intervening variable to avoid the lack of definition of the conventional exponential intervening variables due to zero-or negative-valued design variables. Then a new quadratic approximation whose Hessian matrix has only diagonal elements of different values is proposed in terms of these shifted exponential intervening variables. These diagonal elements are determined in a closed form that corrects the typical error in the approximate gradient of the TANA series due to the lack of definition of exponential type intervening variables and their incomplete second-order terms. Also, a correction coefficient is multiplied to the pre-determined quadratic term to match the value of approximate function with that of the previous point. Finally, in order to show the numerical performance of the proposed method, a sequential approximate optimizer is developed and applied to solve six typical design problems. These optimization results are compared with those of TANA-3. These comparisons show that the proposed method gives more efficient and reliable results than TANA-3.

  • The transfer matrix method has been extensively used to analyze the vibration problem. The final stage in this method is to find out solutions which make the frequency determinant zero. However, the frequency determinant includes the exponential terms and it causes instability to calculation and increases error. Recently the frontal transfer matrix method was suggested by Okada to heighten stability and effectivity in calculation. This paper applied the frontal transfer method to both the beam and torsional system, and confirmed stability and effectivity in comparsion with the transfer matrix method and the Holzer method.

  • The burnup equation of nuclides is one of the most equations in nuclear reactor physics, which is generally coupled with transport calculations. The burnup equation describes the variation of the nuclides with time. Because of its very stiffness and the need for large time step, this equation is solved by special methods, for example transmutation trajectory analysis (TTA) or the matrix exponential methods where the matrix exponential is approximated by CRAM. However, TTA or CRAM functions well when the flux is constant. In this work, a new method is proposed when the flux changes. It's an improved method compared to TTA or CRAM. Furtherly, this new method is based on TTA or CRAM, and it is more accurate than them. The accuracy and efficiency of this method are investigated. Several cases are used and the results show the accuracy and efficiency of this method are great.
