  • This paper is a follow up study of [2]. In this paper we analyse the contents of middle school mathematics textbooks published in the 1st National Curriculum Period centered on the concept 'straight line' and discuss how they are different from contemporary mathematics textbooks in view of connectedness of contents, mathematical terms, textbook as a learning material vs. teaching material, relationship between contents of national curriculum and textbooks, and some topics related to direct proportion, function, method of equivalence as a method for solving simultaneous linear equations and so on. The results of our analysis and discussion suggest implications for reforming mathematics curriculum and developing mathematics textbooks.

  • In this study, an experimental elementary school mathematics textbooks in use in the effects of the storytelling investigated. For this purpose, three different elementary schools teachers and students to a group of grades 3-4 mathematics textbooks for the effects of the storytelling questionnaire study. Survey, teachers were given an overall rating of storytelling in mathematics textbooks were positive recognition. Specifically, learning motivation and communication have significant positive recognition and learning of mathematics content that was helpful. The students are given an overall rating of storytelling textbooks showed a positive reaction. Grade 3 students were more positive than the four-year students. More specifically, mathematics is interesting storytelling. That public education was more fun than private supplementary education. But for storytelling low-level math students need measures showed insignificant changes.

  • This study intends to compare the structure of contents and the way of developing concepts in mathematics textbooks of south and those of north Korea. After thorough investigations of the textbooks from south and north Korea, the following three characteristics were identified. First, the mathematics textbooks of south Korea tends to spread out contents across several grades, while those of north Korea have a tendency of centralization in terms of locating contents Second, in the textbooks of South Korea, mathematics concepts are permeated through real world situations, and students gradually acquire those concepts mostly through activities. This is different from the approach of the north Korean textbooks in which various problems play a key role in explaining concepts. Third, the main strategy of introducing contents in the textbooks of south and that of north Korea corresponds to 'guidance' and 'explanation' respectively. Exploratory questions leading to the concepts are more emphasized in the textbooks of south Korea, on the other hand, meaningful explanations play an important role in the textbooks of north Korea.

  • This study is aimed at finding some drawbacks of current elementary mathematics textbooks and to give suggestions for ongoing new textbooks according to 2009 revised curriculums, by comparing and analyzing Korean textbooks and chinese textbooks of People's Education Press. The areas are confined to number concepts, addition and subtraction for comparative analyzing. The results are followings: Korea textbooks have more verbal expressions, designated instructive activities for students to do, similar algorithm applied for enlarging mathematical concepts, bigger number concepts and number usage of operations, and monotonous number sense activities. Therefore Korean textbooks, compared to China's, is more weaker in areas such as encouraging student's interest, in challenging mathematics, and in forming fundamental mathematical concept.

  • This study investigated the perception of pre - service teachers in order to find out how paper textbooks are used in high school classes and what improvement is needed. Firstly, the results of analyzing the perception about the utilization of textbooks are as follows. First, in the case of Korean language, social studies, mathematics, science, and English, textbooks were used most frequently, and most of the respondents did not use textbooks for arts and physical education subjects. Secondly, Korean language, social studies, mathematics, science, and English textbooks are most frequently used as teaching materials. Third, in the case of Korean, social, mathematics, science, and English subjects, in addition to textbooks, problem collections were used most frequently and arts and physical education subjects showed the most use of prints. Next, the results of analyzing the perception of the improvement method of the textbooks are as follows. First, in the high school class, the response rate was high in that Korean, social, mathematics, science, and English classes needed a textbook. Most of the respondents answered that they were not necessary for the textbooks of arts and physical education subjects. Second, in order to improve the textbooks, the most demanding textbooks focused on the core basic contents, followed by self - directed learning activities, competency centered contents selection, cooperative learning activities, and teacher self - development. The demand for digital textbooks was low.

  • At the time when textbooks were developed and applied according to the 2015 revised curriculum and At the time of developing new test textbooks, it is necessary to examine the contents of the textbooks based on the 2015 revised curriculum and the responses of field teachers. Therefore, this study conducted a questionnaire survey for elementary school teachers on how teachers perceive and evaluate elementary mathematics textbooks (math textbooks, mathematics learning books, teacher guidebooks) developed and applied based on the 2015 revised curriculum. The results were analyzed.

  • This study is to compared with 7-ga mathematics textbooks of 13 types in the middle school by 7-th curriculum. A synopsis of the Analysis and comparison about the contents of these textbooks is as follows. -The order of contents almost is same about the title and contents in 13 types of textbooks. -It is very important that the definition of terminology should be simple and correct. I investigated the terminology in thirteen textbooks of material at 7-th curriculum. -Most of their textbooks present the motivation of learning mathematics with resource of life such as a story of mathematics and famous mathematicians. -The chapter about numbers and operations has the biggest volume of all. -The evaluation of lessons presents at the each end of chapters with many problems as levels.

  • In the history of elementary school mathematics education in Korea, the period led by the Government-General of Joseon during the Japanese colonial period cannot be omitted. As a way to grasp the real state of elementary school mathematics education at that time, there is a method of analyzing elementary school mathematics textbooks published by the Government-General of Joseon. However, the actual state of the publication of them was not sufficiently known. For this reason, this study surveys the actual state of the publication of those textbooks. To this end, real information on textbooks owned currently by various institutions and information on the publication of those textbooks in the official gazette and documents of the Government-General of Joseon were checked and organized.

  • This study analyzed the mathematics textbooks of middle grades in the first Korean curriculum, based on the modern trends of mathematics education curriculum, comparing with present Korean curriculum's other textbooks and the American textbook, MiC. The mathematics textbooks in the first Korean curriculum are based on various situations in our real life and introduce mathematical concepts throughout a set of mathematics problems. The textbooks present mathematical concepts with connected knowledge and include mathematical activities which make students use mathematical table, graph and formula at the same time. And students are actively required to discuss together during the mathematics problem solving process. As the results of this modern review on Korean 1st curriculum and middle grades mathematics textbooks, it would provide preliminary data and meaningful implications for the next curriculum and concomitant instructional materials.
