  • A conservative scheme for solving scalar hyperbolic equations is presented using a quadrature rule and an ODE solver. This numerical scheme consists of an upwind part, plus a correction part which is derived by introducing a new variable for the given hyperbolic equation. Furthermore, the stability and accuracy of the derived algorithm is shown with numerous computations.

  • Many studies have successfully developed a number of terrain correction programs in gravity data. Furthermore, terrain data that is a basic data for terrain correction has widely been provided through internet. We have also developed our own precise gravity terrain correction program. The currently existing gravity terrain correction programs have been developed for regional scale gravity survey, thus a more precise gravity terrain correction program needs to be developed to correct terrain effect. This precise gravity terrain program can be applied on small size geologic targets, such as small scale underground resources or underground cavities. The multiquadric equation has been applied to create a mathematical terrain surface from basic terrain data. Users of this terrain correction program can put additional terrain data to make more precise terrain correction. In addition, height differences between terrain and base of gravity meter can be corrected in this program.

  • In forecasting realized volatility of the major US stock price indexes (S&P 500, Russell 2000, DJIA, Nasdaq 100), internet search volume reflecting investor's interests and implied volatility are used to improve forecast via a deep learning method of the LSTM. The LSTM method combined with search volume index produces better forecasts than existing standard methods of the vector autoregressive (VAR) and the vector error correction (VEC) models. It also beats the recently proposed vector error correction heterogeneous autoregressive (VECHAR) model which takes advantage of the cointegration relation between realized volatility and implied volatility.

  • In this study, basic characteristics such as reproducibility, linearity, and directionality of RPL glass dosimeters were evaluated to improve the reliability of dose evaluation through RPL glass dosimeters, and uncertainty elements such as sensitivity by glass element and magazine slot sensitivity were evaluated. Using a mathematical model to calibrate the measured values of the RPL glass dosimeter, the measurement uncertainty was calculated assuming an example. As a result of the characteristic evaluation, the RPL glass dosimeter showed excellent performance with a standard deviation of ±1% (1 SD) for the reproducibility of the reading process, a coefficient of determination for linearity of 0.99997. And the read-out of the RPL glass dosimeter are affected by the circular rotation direction of the glass dosimeter during irradiation, fading according to the period after irradiation, the number of laser pulses of the reader, and response degradation due to repeated reading, it is judged that measurement uncertainty can be reduced by irradiation and reading in consideration of these factors. In addition, it was confirmed that the dose should be determined by calculating the correction factors for the sensitivity of each element and, the sensitivity of each reading magazine slot. It is believed that the reliability of dosimetry using glass dosimeters can be improved by using a mathematical model for correction of glass dosimeter readings and calculating measurement uncertainty.

  • In this study, a new meta-heuristic optimization algorithm, Vision Correction Algorithm (VCA), designed according to the optical properties of glasses was developed. The VCA is a technique applying optometry and vision correction procedure to optimization algorithm through the process of myopic/hyperopic correction-brightness adjustment-compression enforcement-astigmatism adjustment. The proposed VCA unlike the conventional meta-heuristic algorithm is an automatically adjusting global/local search rate and global search direction based on accumulated optimization results. The proposed algorithm was applied to the representative optimization problem (mathematical and engineering problem) and results of the application are compared with that of the present algorithms.

  • In our previous paper (Bull. Korean Math. Soc. 37(2000), 493-505), we claimed a theorem on a certain subset of a projective space over a finite field (Theorem 3.1). Recently, however, Professor Kato pointed out that our proof does not work if the field consists of two elements. Here we give an alternative proof of the theorem for the exceptional case.

  • This research was conducted to determine a preliminary design parameters for the development of twin screw extruder using Booy's screw design method, and to analyze a extrusion process using Janssen's mathematical flow model. In processing process, the experimental mass flow rates of com flour and wheat flour were almost the same as theoretical values corrected by correction factors of 0.95 and 0.6 respectively. It was appeared that the mathematical model would be suitable to predict the conveying capacity.

  • Lee weight is more appropriate for some practical situations than Hamming weight as it takes into account magnitude of each digit of the word. In this paper, we obtain a sufficient condition over the number of parity check digits for codes correcting random errors and simultaneously detecting burst errors with Lee weight consideration.

  • There are three standard weight functions on a linear code viz. Hamming weight, Lee weight, and Euclidean weight. Euclidean weight function is useful in connection with the lattice constructions [2] where the minimum norm of vectors in the lattice is related to the minimum Euclidean weight of the code. In this paper, we obtain an upper bound over the number of parity check digits for Euclidean weight codes detecting and correcting burst errors.
