CULTIVATION OF STUDENTS' CORE LITERACY BASED ON THE MATHEMATICAL CULTURE PERSPECTIVE

  • In recent years, the term core literacy has been popular in educational circles all over the world, and there are more and more research on core literacy. At the same time, the mathematical culture has also been highly valued on a global scale. The mathematical culture is a part of college students' cultural quality, and then, what is the connection between the mathematical culture and mathematical core literacy? How to improve the mathematical core literacy of contemporary college students? This paper gives the corresponding answers to these two questions. By illustrating the concrete implementation of the course "Mathematical Culture" offered by Yanbian University, this paper discusses various measures for cultivating students' core qualities in Chinese universities. It must be useful and promote the research on mathematical core literacy for the educators in various countries.

교육과정에서 기초소양으로써 수리 소양에 관한 연구 (A Study on Mathematical Literacy as a Basic Literacy in the Curriculum)

  • 2022 개정 교육과정은 언어 소양 및 디지털 소양과 함께 전 교과의 학습을 통해 함양할 수 있는 기초소양으로써 수리 소양의 중요성을 강조하였다. 그러나 수리 소양에 관한 적합한 정의를 내리고 있지 않아 모든 교과의 교육과정에 체계적으로 이를 적용하는 것에 어려움이 있다. 이 연구는 우리나라 교육과정에서 기초소양으로써 수리 소양이 체계적으로 적용될 수 있도록, 문헌 검토를 통해 교육과정에서의 수리 소양의 정의를 명료화하고 타 교과에서의 수리 소양의 적용 양상을 분석하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 이를 위해 먼저 문헌 연구를 통해 수리문해력, 수학 역량 등과 같은 용어와 비교, 대조하고 수리 소양의 의미를 명료화하고 세분화한다. 다음으로 국내외 각 교육과정에서 나타난 수리 소양의 범주를 비교해보고, 수리 소양이 전 교과의 성취기준에 반영된 호주 NSW주의 교육과정에 수리 소양의 적용 양상을 분석한다. 수리 소양의 의미를 세분화하여 각 성질을 이해하고 교육과정에의 적용 양상을 살펴보는 것은 수학 교과 이외의 교과에서도 수리 소양을 반영한 교육과정을 구성하도록 도울 수 있을 것이라 기대한다.

수학적 소양 (Mathematical Literacy)에 대하여 (Reconsidering Mathematical Literacy)

  • The purpose of this paper is to reconsider the meaning of mathematical literacy based on the investigation of the nature of mathematical knowledge communicated in university level mathematics classes. The analysis of classroom discourse has revealed three different kinds of mathematical knowledge circulated in mathematics class, which include 'factual mathematics', 'mathematical fantasy', and 'mathematical savior faire.' The fact that a mathematics teacher delivers diverse categories of mathematics knowledge suggests that the mathematical literacy is not confined to the development of technical competence. More specifically, the kinds of mathematical knowledge identified above tell that mathematical literacy developed through learning mathematics reflects the cultural norms and values of doing mathematics. This means that mathematical literacy is not merely involve with technical competence but rather with cultural competence. In this regard, this paper highlights the meaning of mathematical literacy as a cultural identity, which has been underestimated in the theory and practice of mathematics education dominated by technocracy of the twentieth century In particular, the notion of mathematical savior faire implies that teaching and teaming mathematics ultimately deals with a system of cultural meaning. Hence, through learning mathematics, a learner gets transformed as a whole person according to the cultural norms and values. In this regard, it is concluded that mathematical literacy can be considered as a necessary condition to become a competent member of mathematics community sharing cultural norms of doing mathematics as well as a repertoire of mathematical skills.

학업성취도 국제 비교 연구(PISA)에 나타난 수학적 소양의 성별 차이에 대한 고찰 (A Study on the Gender Difference in Mathematical Literacy from the PISA)

  • The PISA(Program for International Student Assessment), an international comparative study supervised by OECD, aims at producing reliable and internationally comparable indicators of students' literacy in reading, mathematics, and science. In mathematical literacy, Korean students ranked the 2nd out of the 32 participating countries in PISA. This result is very encouraging in the sense that the scores in the mathematical literacy are a forecasting indicator for the mathematical level of future citizens who are supposed to lead their countries in every field. However, Korean students showed the largest gender difference in mathematical literacy, indicating that male students achieved significantly higher scores than female counterparts. With the consideration that mathematics plays a key role in determining the overall achievement level and influences on the long-term career opportunities, it is necessary to pay more attention to the gender difference in mathematical literacy, and make an effort to reduce it to enhance the overall intelligence level of Korean human resources.

학업성취도 국제 비교 평가(PISA)에 나타난 우리나라 학생의 수학적 소양 수준 분석 (A Mathematical Literacy Profile of Korean Students in PISA)

  • The PISA(Program for International Student Assessment), an international comparative study supervised by OECD, is aimed at producing reliable and internationally comparab1e indicators of students' literacy in reading, mathematics, and science. In mathematical literacy, Korean students ranked the 2nd out of the 32 participating countries in PISA. This result is very encouraging in the sense that the scores in the mathematical literacy is the forecasting indicator for the mathematical level of future citizens who are supposed to lead their countries in every fields. In contrast to the high performance in mathematics, Korean students possess extremely low level of interest in mathematics. On the other hand, Korea's highest top 5% students are not on a par with the best students in New Zealand, Japan, Swiss, Australia, and England. This finding urges Korean education to put serious efforts to pursue academic excellence. Overall, PISA results suggest that Korean mathematics education has been effective and efficient. Korean education system should set goals to meet the world standard and the challenges of the lifelong teaming society.

중학교 수학 교과서의 통계적 소양 수준 반영 정도 (Levels of Statistical Literacy Derived from Middle School Mathematics Textbook)

  • The importance of statistics in everyday life and work place has led to calls for an increased attention to statistical literacy in the mathematics curriculum both internationally and domestically. While professional organizations and researchers propose perspectives towards and models of statistical literacy, conceptions and elements of statistical literacy vary. This study examines how mathematics textbook questions fulfill the requirements of statistical literacy by employing two models: Watson's model focusing on understanding of statistical language and Curcio's model on data interpretation aspects of statistical literacy. For this, a total of 872 problem questions presented in the statistics units of from ten textbooks for the middle school year 1 mathematics were analyzed.

수업설계안에 나타난 예비 중등수학교사의 통계적 소양 수준 분석연구 (Analysis on pre­service mathematics teachers' statistical literacy in lesson plan)

  • This study aims to investigate the statistical literacy of pre-service mathematics teachers and to discuss the impact of statistical literacy in lesson plan. For the purpose of this study, we analyzed 13 pre-service mathematics teachers' statistical literacy tests and lesson plans. The results of this analysis are as follows: First, pre-service mathematics teachers did not have a high level of statistical literacy, and it was also observed that there was a big level difference between them. Second, pre-service mathematics teachers' lesson plans showed significant difference in the level of the target grade, the characteristics of the target student, and the contents. Based on this study, we seek to find implications for how it is appropriate to educate teachers in charge of statistical education.

챗봇 활용 수학 프로젝트 학습이 인공지능 리터러시에 미치는 영향 (The Effect of Math Project Learning Using Chat-bot on Artificial Intelligence Literacy)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the impact of project learning using chatbots on artificial intelligence literacy. The subjects of the study were a total of 41 students from 1st to 3rd grade of general high school in Gyeonggi-do. Classes were held after school for a total of 6 hours, and the contents of the classes consisted of the concept and characteristics of artificial intelligence, the concept and expression of knowledge, OBT application for Kakao i open builder, guidance on how to create chatbots, and chatbot production practice. As a result of the pre- and post-test of the experimental group, the quantitative value of artificial intelligence literacy increased in all three grades. In the case of second-year students who set up a comparison group, when compared with the results of the comparison group, there was a significant positive effect on the AI literacy result, and female students were found to be more effective than male students.

  • 이 글에서는 PISA 2003(Programme for International Student Assessment 2003)에 나타난 우리나라 학생들의 수학적 소양의 특징을 자세하게 살펴보고자 한다. 우리나라 학생들의 수학적 소양 평균 점수, 수학적 소양 수준의 분포, PISA 평가틀에 따른 수학적 소양 수준, 수학적 소양의 추이 분석, 남녀학생의 수학적 소양의 차이 등을 분석함으로써 우리나라 학생들의 수학적 소양의 인지적 측면을 조사하고자 한다. 또한, 우리나라 학생들의 수학 학습에의 참여, 학생들의 자신에 대한 신념, 수학에 대한 불안감, 수학 학습 전략 등을 중심으로 수학적 소양의 정의적 측면에 대해 살펴보고자 한다 그리고, 이를 바탕으로 수학교육 및 교육 정책적 시사점을 도출하고자 한다.
