  • A robotically assisted field material handling system designed for loading and unloading of a planar pallet with a forklift in unstructured field environment is presented. The system uses combined acoustic/visual sensing data to define the position/orientation of the pallet and to determine the specific locations of the two slots of the pallet, so that the forklift can move close to the slot and engage it for transport. In order to reduce the complexity of the material handling operation, we have developed a method based on the integration of 2-D range data of Poraloid ultrasonic sensor along with 2-D visual data of an optical camera. Data obtained from the two separate sources complements each other and is used in an efficient algorithm to control this robotically assisted field material handling system . Range data obtained from two linear scannings is used to determine the pan and tilt angles of a pallet using least mean square method. Then 2-D visual data is used to determine the swing angle and engagement location of a pallet by using edge detection and Hough transform techniques. The limitations of the pan and tilt orientation to be determined arc discussed. The system developed is evaluated through the hardware and software implementation. The experimental results are presented.

  • Flammable materials used in semiconductor supply facilities are manufactured at high temperatures and high pressures, and as the semiconductor industry becomes more sophisticated and larger, the amount of materials used is rapidly increasing. Recently, fires and explosions occurred during the handling of acetic acid, which is a raw material for making products in the semiconductor material manufacturing process. Overall problems such as lack of air inflow prevention for fire and explosion prevention were identified. Therefore, in this study, in order to accurately identify the cause of the accident and prevent fire and explosion that may occur in the process of handling large amounts of flammable liquids, opinions from various perspectives, such as construction of facilities such as hoppers, installation of AOPS components, and change in workers' perceptions would like to present.

  • To assess hydraulic connections between sub-components of the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) diagnostic port plug, the laser welding and ablation cutting process were investigated in order to be applied the remote handling maintenance. In this study, laser ablation cutting, which vaporizes a small amount of solid material directly into gas by focusing a laser beam of high density energy, is adopted in order to overcome the limitation of the normal laser cutting technology that the head should be placed as close to the work piece as possible to blow out melt metal at a distance. Complete cutting of a work piece is obtained by repetitive multi-passes of the laser beam. The welding and cutting process were tested on the sample work pieces and finally on a prototype of a hydraulic connection module for remote handling. The results showed that this process can be a promising candidate for hydraulic connections by remote handling.

  • During demonstrations of a process conditioning spent nuclear fuels, it may be necessary to transport and handle Spent fuel road cuts from Post Irradiation Examination facility to Slitting device in The hot cell. It may be not easy to transport spent fuel rod cuts because rod cuts are high radioactive materials. For this purpose, we have developed a capsule for transporting and handling high radioactive materials. We have analyzed conditions of a hot cell and requirements of the device, designed and manufactured The prototype of the device, and done some performance tests. From the tests, it has been shown that transportation and handling without scattering nuclear material was smooth but the weight of capsule was heavy. These result will be reflected to a design of the improved transportation and handling device which will be used during demonstrations.

  • The considered simulation tasks are based on an electrometallurgical process development strategy and associated telemanipulator simulation systems are proposed with various scales of experimental facilities. Fundamentally, target facilities are assumed to be operated only by remote handling systems because the considered process is operated in hazardous environments. Futhermore, the feasibility at various scales should be experimentally verified with gradual increase in throughput. In this regard, bench, engineering, and pilot-scale simulation systems are important early-stage tools for assessing the practical operability of the target process with the material handling systems. Such simulation systems are highly customized for applications and are a precursor to larger pilot and demonstration-scale plants. This paper introduced and classified the developed simulator systems for this approach at various scales using remote handling systems which were assembled inside a virtual target facility, and the manmachine interface was included for a more realistic operation of the simulator. The results obtained for each simulator show the feasibility and requirement for improvement of the systems for the considered test issues with respect to the operation and maintenance of the process.

  • For the flow analysis of reactive compressible media involving energetic materials and metallic confinements, a Hydro-SCCM (Shock Compression of Condensed Matter) tool is developed for handling multi-physics shock analysis of energetics and inerts. The highly energetic flows give rise to the strong non-linear shock waves and the high strain rate deformation of compressible boundaries at high pressure and temperature. For handling the large gradients associated with these complex flows in the condensed phase as well as in the reactive gaseous phase, a new Eulerian multi-fluid method is formulated. Mathematical formulation of explosive dynamics involving condensed matter is explained with an emphasis on validating and application of hydro-SCCM to a series of problems of high speed multimaterial dynamics in nature.

  • Objective : Walking with a Material handling is an activity frequently undertaken by agricultural workers in Korea, due to the nature of their work. This study aimed to investigate differences in biomechanical variables according to the mechanical alignment of the lower limbs when walking with a heavy load, and to use this as basic data in the design of various working environments to reduce the skeletomuscular burden on the knee joint. Method : The study subjects comprised of 22 right-foot dominant adult men and women aged between 20 and 23 years. The subjects were divided into a varus or valgus group according to the mechanical alignment of the lower limb by using radiographic findings. The subjects walked without any load and with a load of 10%, 20%, or 30% of their body weight held in front of them. The Kwon3d XP program was used to calculate biomechanical variables. Results : The flexion/extension moment of the knee joint showed a decreasing trend with increased load, irrespective of the mechanical alignment of the lower limb, while the varus group did not show normal compensatory action when supported by one leg at the point of maximum vertical ground reaction force. In addition, in terms of the time taken, subjects showed no difficulties in one-foot support time up to 20%/BW, but at 30%/BW, despite individual differences, there was an increase in single limb. The increased load resulted in a decrease in the ratio of standing phase to ensure physical stability. The valgus group showed a trend of increasing the stability of their center of mass with increasing load, through higher braking power in the early standing phase. Conclusion : In conclusion, although there was no statistical difference in biomechanical variables according to the mechanical alignment of the lower limbs, the varus group showed a more irregular walking pattern with a Material handling than the valgus group, partially proving the association between lower limb alignment and walking with a Material handling.

  • Busan port's main function is handling container cargo compared to world major ports and the percentage of handling general cargo such as dirty bulk cargo is very low. In other words, although total cargo weight of Busan port that recorded the handling result of 13.29million TEU in 2008 reached 113.05million ton, total cargo weight of general cargo was 15.31million ton, so container cargo accounted for 88.1% of whole cargo weight. However, it is the time to create high added value by the increase of handling and marketing dirty bulk cargo. Originally, the dirty bulk cargo was not the avoided object from the first. Somehow, it is a very high added value cargo, and is surely essential strategic material to basic industries of nation. However, it becomes dirty bulk cargo as the companies are reluctant to handle it because of environmental problem, distinct characteristic in handling, uncertain break even point due to imbalance between supply and demand compared to container cargo. However, items that are classified as dirty bulk cargo now are certainly necessary strategic materials to national basic industries or national life. Besides it seems to be a high added value cargo here and now. Therefore, it is time that increasing of handling dirty bulk cargo by marketing it and the system for efficient handling such as constructing the exclusive use wharf in Busan port, modernizing of facilities and equipments, stable secure of place for holding and handling through development of distribution complex by item, efficient data processing and closer cooperation by setting up a SCM of related authorities are needful.

The objects for this study were 423 students who were in the dept. of dental laboratory technology. In this regard, four colleges which have the dept. of dental laboratory technology were randomly selected to do a questionnaire survey. SPSS 12.0 was used to analyze the collected data. The results were as follows: As for satisfaction with their major, the respondents answered Satisfied (59.1%), Average (35.5%) and Dissatisfied (5.4%). In terms of the production process of a partial denture, they considered casting, polishing the casting body, polishing denture and burn out were most dangerous in order. As for the production process of a full denture, what they regarded as the most dangerous in order was polishing denture, deflasking and wax wash. Regarding the laboratory procedures of porcelain material, casting, trimming casting body, polishing porcelain material and burn out were the most dangerous procedures that they perceived. With regard to materials for use, alcohol, polishing, metal and wire were the most dangerous ones they thought. As for the handling characteristics of each material, small towns showed a higher demand for safety of the handling characteristics of alcohol. In terms of school year and sex, juniors and girls had higher scores in the demand for safety of the handling characteristics of acid. Regarding the handling characteristics of each equipment and instrument, all of small towns, juniors and girls showed the highest demand for safety of the handling characteristics of alcohol lamps. With regard to scores in the demand for safety of other characteristics, all of small towns, juniors and girls had the highest demand for safety of emergency treatment. Concerning the demand for safety education by the completion of safety education, in terms of each material, highest was the demand for safety of acid from the group which completed safety education. In regard to equipments and instruments, when it came to the demand for safety of the handling characteristics of casting machine, the educated group's demand for safety of acid was higher. Regarding other characteristics, the group which was not educated gained higher scores in the demand for safety of emergency treatment. 11. In all areas(materials, machines and others), small towns, girls and juniors showed higher scores in the demand for safety. Based on the above results, it was found that when students conduct the laboratory of dental technology, they would think that many materials, instruments or equipments for use are very dangerous. However, safety education was not fully given to them. Regarding the scores in the damned for safety education, the highest was 4.16 and the lowest was 3.43, which suggests that the scores were generally very high. In this regard, it is necessary to continue delivering a systematic safety education of materials, equipments or instruments used during the laboratory of dental technology. Therefore, through the analysis of each material, instruments or facility used in every laboratory and each process, safety accident types and accident risk factors should be investigated to develop educational materials for this. Moreover, it is required to open safety education as a single course of study or insert safety contents of all materials and machines into the class of dental laboratory instrument or dental materials for the purpose of a systematic and thorough safety education to prevent a safety accident during laboratory.
