Further, based on trade intensity index, revealed comparative advantage index, Grubel-Lloyd index, constant market share, the trade structure between Korea and China was analyzed for the equipment in the fields of communication, information, broadcasting and their parts. The results are; first, since 2004, China has been catching up with Korea in the number of their companies listed in the global top 500 conglomerates. Second, the trade intensity index increased in 2007 4.57% up from 2002, showing increasingly closer connection between the two countries in the area of communications equipment. Third, according to revealed comparative advantage index, Korea's info-communications equipment seems to comparatively lag behind, but in terms of import-export structure is in the black. Fourth, in recent years, Korean equipment's market share in the Chinese market has been dropped due to the weakening competitiveness and the changing commodity supplies.

  • This study empirically investigates the double jeopardy phenomenon in a Korean and a New Zealand context. The double jeopardy is that companies with a small market share tend to suffer not only smaller sales volumes but also suffer a lower price than the market leader. The research reported here analyses price and market share data for 14 categories of household goods in Korea and a smaller number in New Zealand. Analysis shows that, in Korea, leading brands do enjoy a price premium as predicted, of around 15%, but that there is little or no evidence of double jeopardy occurring in New Zealand. Based on this study, evidence suggests that market share is a strong valid strategic objective in the East.

  • Market share is one of the most important measures in the valuation of prospering firm. It plays a role of composite indicator for the competitiveness of firm. So, the understanding of the underlying process of market share is inevitable factor for the econometricians and the business engager. Lately, the Korean Economy has been placed in the control of IMF. This shock will cause a lot of influence over the domestic economy. The idea that the information about the past shock-response experience will do us good for dealing with this kind of economic shocks is not new. Among numerous markets, we pay attention to the durable goods market, especially automobile market. The automobile market has large repercussion effect over the domestic economy on the issue of both national employment and technology integration. We divided the Korean automobile market into three segments: small, medium, and large-sized car, while each proportion of these segments has been changing slowly. We propose a Bayesian approach to detect and forecast structural changes in time series of the market shares in the domestic automobile market, especially for level shifts and drift changes, and compare the empirical results with other existing approaches.

Design/methodology/approach - For this study, the past 9 years of container volume data have been collected and analyzed through the HHI index, BCG matrix and shift effect analysis. Based on the analysis, this study has found that the Chittagong Port is in an oligopoly competitive market structure. Findings - The findings have shown that port in low market share and low growth in very recent years with the moderately concentrated ports HHI index. The shift effect analysis shows that the container volumes shifted from one port to another in the 2019 and 2020 periods. This study is the pioneer study in the Bay of Bengal region to identify the market structure, analyze market share and growth, and analyze the market concentration. Research implications or Originality - Future recommendations for the port authority is to take advantage of geolocation; attract international; tax exemption, faster clearance process, reduced waiting charges; increasing storage and technological machinery; promoting maritime logistics education; promoting Chittagong tourism; collaboration with other countries. Also, this study can be used as basic data for the establishment of a new supply chain between Korea and Southwest Asia for the Korean government and companies.

  • Generally, higher brand equity ends up with higher market share and higher profitability. However, superior brand equity does not guarantee the success in the market. That is, consumer choice is closely related to brand equity but we need more than brand equity to explain this complex phenomenon. We adopt the customer equity concepts: value equity, brand equity, and retention equity. By incorporating value equity and retention equity into customer equity, it is possible to avoid the problems of using the brand equity only. In the paper, we apply this customer equity concepts to cellular phone and investigate the effects of antecedent variables such as exposure, knowledge, positive experience and negative experience on the components of customer equity. In addition, as surrogate measure of customer lifetime value, the weighted measure of purchase intention, consideration set inclusion, and next purchase is used as dependent variable. We estimate the effects of components of customer equity at the brand level and aggregate level using SURE model. Estimation results show that Apple has currently low market share but has high future potentials and Korean firms have currently high market share but has rather low future potentials.

  • The cross-border trade(CBT) market has grown significantly due to the global spread of the Internet and mobile. China has become a very important market because of its share of 78% in 2016 in the export of korea's CBT. To sum up this phenomenon, First, the forms of distribution and trade, in which the O2O method is utilized, are settled. Next, it is necessary to develop a new strategy to expand the stagnant export of Korea. In particular, it is time to look for an effective export expansion strategy to expand market share in the fast-growing Chinese market. For this purpose, this study proposed a strategy for efficient use of logistics as a countermeasure against China's CBT laws and regulations and development of CBT exports to China to develop effective export strategies.

  • This study aims at examining each firm's decision-makings of complex product and system (hereafter CoPS) innovation strategy, so that it tries to reveal the nature and role of CoPS innovations strategy. And it designed a comparative case study along with qualitative methods, by having two mobile operators' digital rights management (hereafter DRM) innovation in South Korea's digital music service industry. Through literature review, this study formulated three research propositions: (i) Each firm's decision-makings of CoPS innovations strategy are analytical negotiation process among economic actors in an industry; (ii) Each firm's market power originated from its market share from the installed base through network effect and switching cost influence decision-makings of CoPS innovation strategies; (iii) Each firm's decision-makings of different CoPS innovation strategies are related to their intension of achieving better market power, consequently dominant design. Through empirical examination of two mobile operators' decision-makings of DRM innovation strategy, this study empirically verified three research propositions.
