The recently introduced castable glass ceramics incorporate properties characteristic of natural teeth and they are regarded as an ideal material to restore lost tooth structure. The purpose of this study was to compare the marginal fit of castable ceramic crown with that of the metal-ceramic crown in the process of heat treatment. Two master dies for castable ceramic crowns and metal-ceramic crowns were fabricated from being cast with the base metal. Each master die was duplicated with addition silicone and hard stone. Ten castable ceramic crowns were made on each hard stone die and their marginal openings were measured three times first, after casting; second, after ceramming; third, after shading. The other ten metal-ceramic crowns were made on each hard stone die and their marginal openings were measured three times : first, after casting; second, after degassing; third, after porcelain veneering. Each crown was seated on its master die with the constant force delivered by loading jig. And then, marginal openings were measured on four locations by optical projector at X50 magnification. The results were as follows: 1. The mean marginal openings of castable ceramic crowns were $31.1{\pm}12.7{\mu}m$ after casting; $44.6{\pm}12.8{\mu}m$ after ceramming; $51.2{\pm}16.8{\mu}m$ after shading. 2. The mean marginal openings of the metal-ceramic crowns were $26.2{\pm}13.8{\mu}m$ after casting; $29.8{\pm}10.3{\mu}m$ after degassing; $38.0{\pm}14.5{\mu}m$ after porcelain veneering. 3. There was significant increase in the marginal opening of castable ceramic crowns after ceramming, while metal-ceramic crowns sho(wed significant increase after porcelain veneering (p<0.05). 4. Marginal fit of metal-ceramic crown was better than that of castable ceramic crown (p<0.01).
PURPOSE. This study aimed to evaluate the fit of zirconia ceramics before and after veneering, using 3 different veneering processes (layering, press-over, and CAD-on techniques). MATERIALS AND METHODS. Thirty standardized zirconia CAD/CAM frameworks were constructed and divided into three groups of 10 each. The first group was veneered using the traditional layering technique. Press-over and CAD-on techniques were used to veneer second and third groups. The marginal gap of specimens was measured before and after veneering process at 18 sites on the master die using a digital microscope. Paired t-test was used to evaluate mean marginal gap changes. One-way ANOVA and post hoc tests were also employed for comparison among 3 groups (${\alpha}$=.05). RESULTS. Marginal gap of 3 groups was increased after porcelain veneering. The mean marginal gap values after veneering in the layering group ($63.06{\mu}m$) was higher than press-over ($50.64{\mu}m$) and CAD-on ($51.50{\mu}m$) veneered groups (P<.001). CONCLUSION. Three veneering methods altered the marginal fit of zirconia copings. Conventional layering technique increased the marginal gap of zirconia framework more than pressing and CADon techniques. All ceramic crowns made through three different veneering methods revealed clinically acceptable marginal fit.

PURPOSE. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the amount of marginal gap with two different substructure materials using identical margin preparations. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Twenty stainless steel models with a chamfer were prepared with a CNC device. Marginal gap measurements of the galvano copings on these stainless steel models and Co-Cr copings obtained by a laser-sintering method were made with a stereomicroscope device before and after the cementation process and surface properties were evaluated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). A dependent t-test was used to compare the mean of the two groups for normally distributed data, and two-way variance analysis was used for more than two data sets. Pearson's correlation analysis was also performed to assess relationships between variables. RESULTS. According to the results obtained, the marginal gap in the galvano copings before cementation was measured as, on average, $24.47{\pm}5.82{\mu}m$ before and $35.11{\pm}6.52{\mu}m$ after cementation; in the laser-sintered Co-Cr structure, it was, on average, $60.45{\pm}8.87{\mu}m$ before and $69.33{\pm}9.03{\mu}m$ after cementation. A highly significant difference (P<.001) was found in marginal gap measurements of galvano copings and a significant difference (P<.05) was found in marginal gap measurements of the laser-sintered Co-Cr copings. According to the SEM examination, surface properties of laser sintered Co-Cr copings showed rougher structure than galvano copings. The galvano copings showed a very smooth surface. CONCLUSION. Marginal gaps values of both groups before and after cementation were within the clinically acceptable level. The smallest marginal gaps occurred with the use of galvano copings.
This study assessed the effect of preparation design on marginal adaptation and also compared the sensitivity and specificity of clinical evaluation techniques for marginal accuracy of cast restorations to stereomicroscopy. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Three Ivorine molar teeth of different designs were prepared. (A)-A complete crown preparation with buccal shoulder and beveled finish line. (B)-A complete crown preparation with chamfer finish line. (C)-A three-quarter crown preparation with proximal boxes and beveled finish line. Twenty four castings were prepared with eight castings for each design respectively. Each casting underwent examination with an explorer, disclosing media, and a stereomicroscope. Stereomicroscopy at a value less than or equal to 30 microns was used as a gold standard to evaluate the significance of different designs on marginal adaptation. Chi-square tests of independence and Kruskal-Wallis were used to evaluate the effect of preparation design and compare the agreement between examination methods for detection of marginal gap size of greater than or equal to 30 microns (${\alpha}$=.05). Sensitivity and specificity for explorer and disclosing media as compared to stereomicroscope was calculated using statistical formula given by Park. RESULTS. The preparation design did not significantly affect overall marginal adaptation. Examination by explorer and disclosing media at $30 \;{mu}m$ revealed 39% and 10.06% sensitivity and 91% and 82% specificity respectively. CONCLUSION. Preparation designs examined in this study did not significantly affect the marginal adaptation of the castings. Commonly used clinical evaluation techniques using explorer and disclosing media appeared to be inadequate for assessment of marginal accuracy.
PURPOSE. Few studies have investigated the marginal accuracy of 3-unit zirconia fixed partial dentures (FPDs) fabricated by computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) system. The purpose of this study was to compare the marginal fit of zirconia FPDs made using two CAD/CAM systems with that of metal-ceramic FPDs. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Artificial resin maxillary central and lateral incisors were prepared for 3-unit FPDs and fixed in yellow stone. This model was duplicated to epoxy resin die. On the resin die, 15 three-unit FPDs were fabricated per group (45 in total): Group A, zirconia 3-unit FPDs made with the Everest system; Group B, zirconia 3-unit FPDs made with the Lava system; and Group C, metal-ceramic 3-unit FPDs. They were cemented to resin dies with resin cement. After removal of pontic, each retainer was separated and observed under a microscope (Presize 440C). Marginal gaps of experimental groups were analyzed using one-way ANOVA and Duncan test. RESULTS. Mean marginal gaps of 3-unit FPDs were $60.46{\mu}m$ for the Everest group, $78.71{\mu}m$ for the Lava group, and $81.32{\mu}m$ for the metal-ceramic group. The Everest group demonstrated significantly smaller marginal gap than the Lava and the metal-ceramic groups (P<.05). The marginal gap did not significantly differ between the Lava and the metal-ceramic groups (P>.05). CONCLUSION. The marginal gaps of anterior 3-unit zirconia FPD differed according to CAD/CAM systems, but still fell within clinically acceptable ranges compared with conventional metal-ceramic restoration.
Purpose: This in vitro study was conducted to evaluate the marginal and internal fit of three-unit Co-Cr frameworks fabricated by computer-aided metal milling and direct metal laser sintering(DMLS) systems in comparison to conventional casting method. Methods: Three-unit Co-Cr frameworks were fabricated by conventional wax up with casting(CWC), computer-aided metal milling(MM) and direct metal laser sintering(DMLS)(n=10 each). The marginal and internal fit of specimens were examined using a light-body silicone impression material. The thickness of light-body silicone was measured at eight reference points each, divided in the mesio distal and bucco lingual directions. All measurements were conducted by a stereomicroscope. Digital photos were taken at 150× magnification and then analyzed using a measurement software. The Kruskal-Wallis test and Bonferroni correction were used for analyzing the results. Results: The mean(SD) is ㎛ for fabrication methods, the mean marginal fit were recorded respectively, DMLS 39(27), followed by CWC 63(38), MM 220(128). and the mean internal fit CWC 95(47), DMLS 116(49), MM 210(152). In addition, the largest gap was found in the occlusal surface area among the internal measurement areas of all groups. Conclusion: As a result, the direct metal laser sintering method showed better marginal and internal fit than the metal milling method. The marginal and internal fit were statistically different according to the three fabrication methods(p<0.001). Except the MM group, the marginal fit of the CWC and DMLS groups was below the clinical standard of 120 ㎛. Based on the results of this study, it can be applied to clinical use in the future.
This study was aimed to verify a comparison by dental alloys upon the marginal fitness of dental prosthesis. Firstly, we waxed up on 45 epoxy resin dies, pressed the margin with hands, and identified the marginal fitness with microscope. And we made a single direct spruing system type of sprue by 3 dental alloys - metal crown alloys, PFM crown alloys, and gold crown alloys - each 15, total 45 waxing up, adjusting W/P ratio and invested the cast ring. Then, we made the dental prosthesis using the electric casting machine. In these processes we followed the manufacturer's instructions, in order to maintain the other conditions from the inner and outer, which included investment and burning out. After we tried on the dental prosthesis on epoxy resin dies, we have got the means of marginal gap at 9 points with same distances, around the cervical line which was checked already, using microscope($\times$300). The results of this study were as follows : 1. Metal crown alloys showed 2.9% better in marginal fitness than PFM crown alloys, and the difference was not statistically significant(P=0.497). 2. Gold crown alloys showed 31.3% better in marginal fitness than Metal crown alloys, and the difference was statistically significant(P=0.004). 3. Gold crown alloys showed 32.4% better in marginal fitness than PFM crown alloys, and the difference was statistically significant(P=0.002). 4. We saw that Gold crown alloys was the best dental alloys in the marginal fitness among the three.(P=0.049).
Instrumentation for periodontal therapy may induce marginal damage which increases plaque accumulation and result in periodontal disease. But there have not been many reports of instrumentations on the artificial crown so far. Therefore this study is conducted to evaluate the effects of various repeated instrumentations on the porcelain crown marginal portion. Of the 10 extracted periodontally diseased maxillary first premolars, were 12 proximal surface used in this study. The finishing line of the preparation was placed on the root surface below CEJ and then the crown was cast and cemented in usual manner. Every 4 surfaces of the 3 instruments-curet, ultrasonic scaler, and ultrasonic curet- is used. and four samples used in each instruments. The relevant procedures and measurements were repeated 3 times in each surfaces. Marginal gap is measured by the microscope and surface roughness, Scannig Probe Microscope. Measurements are made at 5 points in each surfaces, making 20 points in each instrument. The results evaluated statistically were as follows 1. As instrumentation was repeated, both marginal gap and roughness were increased in all group 2. In the hand curet, marginal gap was increased every instrumentation and roughness was increased after second. 3. In the ultrasonic scaler, both marginal gap and roughness were increased every instrumentation. 4. In the ultrasonic curet, marginal gap was increased after third instrumentation and roughness was increased after second. 5. Marginal gap and roughness used by the ultrasonic curet were lower than the others and no difference was seen between the hand curet and ultrasonic scaler From the results of this study, the ultrasonic curet was useful in some aspect, but careful instrumentation was needed. Furthermore it was important to minimize the instrumentation through complete periodontal therapy before setting and adequate plaque control.
This study was conducted to determine the cause of the occurence of marginal leaf chlorosis in ginseng plants (Panax ginseng C.A. Meyer), and to determine its emersion in fields (practically) and in pots (experimentally). The following results were obtained. In the Present investigation, ginseng plants raised in acidic soil containing a high a moue t of Mn showed marginal leaf chlorosis. Henre it Ivas suggested that the shoot growth and root weights became grad gractually lower. The leaves having marginal leaf chlorosis contained low amounts of N, P,. Ca, Mg, and Na and the Fe/Mn ratios were low. There was a corresponding increase in Mn uptake. It was founrl that in soils where marginal leaf chlorisis occured the pH urar brlolv 4.2 to 4.9 and the Ca, Mg and Na content was decreased thus effectively increasing the available manganese in the soil. The Mn/Fe ratios in the yellow leaf margins of ginseng Plants affected by the Mn toxicity was over 2.0 compared to the general Mn/Fe ratio of 0.50 for healthily leaves, stems and roots. Typically when ginseng plants grow fields having soil with a pH below about 5.0, there tenor to be an uptake of excess Mn. When ginseng plants are grown in a nutrient sand culture solution It with an increased Mn concentration, they accumulate large amounts of Mn in the roots and in the shoots. In both casts marginal leaf chlorosis appeared in the emersions. In the Present investigation, ginseng plants raised in acidic soil and containing a high amount of Mn showed marginal leaf chlorosis.
This paper is aimed to analyze how to evaluate the choice of optimal management measures and level of control in fisheries management under the costly and imperfect management system by comparing with costless and perfect management system that is commonly assumed in the analysis of fisheries regulations. Fishermen would set the level of fishing efforts at the point where the marginal fishing profit for fishing effort is equal to the marginal level of fine under costly and imperfect management system. Therefore, under the case where the marginal fishing profit is higher than the marginal level of fine, the level of fishing efforts would be made at the point which is higher than the level of fishing efforts made under costless and perfect management system and is not a point where the economic profit is maximized in regulated fisheries. From this conclusion, the fishermens avoidance activities against regulations as well as the level of control in fisheries management substantially have an influence on the choice of fisheries management instruments. According to the analysis of optimal fisheries management policy, the economic profits in regulated fisheries are determined by the level of fisheries enforcement costs and total fishing profits, in which as enforcement costs increase the economic profits decrease. In addition, the economic profits vary in response to the level of control in avoidance activities. That is, as avoidance costs decrease, the economic profits increase. The determination of optimal level of control in fisheries management should be made at the point where the marginal regulation costs are equal to the marginal profits from regulated fisheries, in which marginal regulation costs are different according to the type of management measures. And the level of profits changes in response to different levels of avoidance activities. The management measure that can maximize the difference between the marginal regulation costs and marginal profits from regulated fisheries should be chosen as an optimal fisheries management instrument.
