  • This paper proposes a global mapping algorithm for multiple robots from an omnidirectional-vision simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) approach based on an object extraction method using Lucas-Kanade optical flow motion detection and images obtained through fisheye lenses mounted on robots. The multi-robot mapping algorithm draws a global map by using map data obtained from all of the individual robots. Global mapping takes a long time to process because it exchanges map data from individual robots while searching all areas. An omnidirectional image sensor has many advantages for object detection and mapping because it can measure all information around a robot simultaneously. The process calculations of the correction algorithm are improved over existing methods by correcting only the object's feature points. The proposed algorithm has two steps: first, a local map is created based on an omnidirectional-vision SLAM approach for individual robots. Second, a global map is generated by merging individual maps from multiple robots. The reliability of the proposed mapping algorithm is verified through a comparison of maps based on the proposed algorithm and real maps.

  • Since National Geographic Information System was started, topographic maps have been made with computer aided editing of digital map, instead of etching map-size negative film. topographic mapping system's necessity is growing more and more, because digital map has changed into Ver.2.0 which include attributes of feature. On the basis of the previous study for analyzing correlation between the digital map feature code and the 1/5,000 topographic map specifications and trying to develop fundamental modules which will play a core role in topographic mapping system, in this study, we apply some 1/5,000 digital maps Ver.2.0 to topographic mapping system have implemented and try to analyze the result.

  • When spatial data which a user requests are stored various data servers in web mapping environment, it is necessary to access one more map servers to gain data and then integrate them. This paper designs and implements a fusion map server for web mapping. The proposed fusion map server has three characteristics. First, it has customizing metadata which reflect various user's requests. Second, it provides fusion services which integrate spatial and non-spatial data. Last, it uses the dynamic liking method to support the fusion services efficiently. We design and implement a publisher client, a map server and a fusion map server for proposed map server.

  • In MCDA (Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis) based on GIS, building the CM(Criteria Map) which represents the space phenomenon properly is important process to deduce precise and efficient site analysis result. The CM using administrative district data is widely used for site analysis process. But, there are not enough studies on site analysis using dasymetric mapping technique. For MCDA, this study suggests building the CM by using dasymetric mapping technique, which re-assigns the social-economic attribute value to more detail space unit. The suggested method is used for industrial site analysis. The criteria map for workforce and criteria map for the distance to the city were built and criteria map which represents attribute's space distribution pattern is documented. The criteria map is successfully applied to multi-criteria decision making process and eventually the analysis result of proposed suitable industrial site is derived.

  • IKONOS image mapping is being considered a possible replacement to the traditional mapping in many countries due to their ease of access to current data and their potential high resolution. Survey Department of His Majesty's Government completed traditional orthophoto mapping of all urban and semi-urban areas of the country. The 1:5000 monochrome orthophoto maps of Kathmandu Valley were completed in 2003. In 2002, as a test, production of a near natural colour Image Map at 1:5000 scale of a part of Kathmandu Valley based on IKONOS data was carried out. A conventional line map plotting of the same area at 1:5000 was also prepared. The objective of the pilot project was to assess the geometric accuracy and the information content of these maps. The details of the study and their results are underlined. The findings of the study helps to explain whether IKONOS image map can replace conventional orthophoto map at 1:5,000 for urban areas of Nepal like Kathmandu.

  • We studied the methods to utilize vehicle-based mobile mapping system for field investigation work of digital map generation process. Map layers which should be checked by field investigation were analyzed to find the possibility of being checked with data from vehicle-based mobile mapping system. Also new process for digital map generation were suggested to adopt field investigation by vehicle-based mobile mapping system. We performed field investigation work on the Kangneung area by vehicle-based mobile mapping on a trial bases and compared the results with a results from usual field investigation method.

  • We study a natural map from the braid group to the mapping class group which is called Harer map. It is rather new and different from the classical map which was studied in 1980's by F. Cohen, J. Harer et al. We show that this map is homologically trivial for most coefficients by using the fact that this map factors through the symmetric group.

  • Satellite captures images periodically and economically over the area wider than aerial photographs, and reconnaissance to unapproachable area. For these advantages, mapping using high resolution satellite image has high potentials of marketability and development. Therefore, utilization of satellite image in mapping and GIS is expected to be growing and research on describable feature, positional accuracy and, possible mapping scale is urgently needed. This research presented that Quick Bird orthoimage could be used to update digital map on a scale of 1:5,000. Quick Bird image was corrected geometrically based on ground control points. DEM was generated using height data of digital topographic map. The orthoimge was produced by digital differential rectification based on DEM which was generated using height data of digital topographic map(scale 1;5,000 and 1;1,000). When the digital topographic map was overlaid with the orthoimage, it was very easy to find changed region or new features builded after the map compiled.

  • Biotop map can be utilized for nature conservation and assessment of environmental impact for human activities in urban area. High resolution satellite images such as IKONOS and KOMPSAT1-EOC were interpreted to classify land use, hydrology, impermeable pavement ratio and vegetation for biotop mapping. Wildlife habitat map and detailed vegetation map obtained from former study results were used as ground truth data. Vegetation was investigated directly for the area where the detailed vegetation map is not available. All these maps were combined and the boundaries were delineated to produce the biotop map. Within the boundary, the characteristics of each polygon were identified, and named. This study investigates the possibility of biotop mapping using high resolution satellite remote sensing data together with field data with the goal of contributing to nature conservation in urban area.

  • In this paper, we provide a mechanism to map topics between similar Topic Map ontologies, which enlarge the capacities of current Topic Maps. That is, there is no explicit way to map topics across multiple Topic Maps in current technology. Therefore, our approach provide semi-automatic or automatic mapping of topics between Topic Maps. In order to map the topics, we provide precise definitions of mapping properties and mapping rules.
