  • The objective of this study is to examine the effect of the waste oyster shell powder as the addition agent in bulking sludge thickening of paper manufacturing plant using DAF(Dissolved Air Flotation) and gravitational sedimentation. The effect of parameters such as dosage and size distribution of oyster shell were examined. The results showed that the optimum dosage of mixed oyster shell(size range : $\sim250{\mu}m$) was 0.8 g/L. The oyster shell addition of 5.0 g/L in sedimentation process was increased thickening concentration of 3.25 times. When 5.0 g/L of oyster shell was added in DAF process, water content of sludge was decreased from 95.5% to 82.7% in dewatering process using Buchner funnel test device. When size of oyster shell was divided four ranges($\sim53{\mu}m$, $53\sim106{\mu}m$, $106\sim150{\mu}m$, $150\sim250{\mu}m$), optimum size range for the flotation and dewatering was $53\sim106{\mu}m$.

  • The artificial lightweight aggregate was manufactured using stone-dust(SD) and bottom ash(BA) from crushed aggregate manufacture process and thermoelectric power plant respectively. The properties of artificial lightweight aggregate according to mixing ratio of SD and BA was that the density was decreased and the absorption was increased with increasing BA content, because bottom ash was contained many unburned carbon and $Fe_2O_3$ which generates gas by oxidation during a sintering process. The appropriate mixing ratio of SD and BA was estimated at about 5:5. The properties of artificial lightweight aggregate according to addition flux admixture was that it had lower density with increasing of $Na_2SO_4$ content. In this study, we could developed the artificial lightweight aggregate as the bulk density was $1.52g/cm^3$ and water absorption 7.3% under the condition that mixing ratio of SD:BA was 5:5, $Na_2SO_4$, $Fe_2O_3$ 1%, sintering temperature $1,150^{\circ}C$ and sintering time 15mins.

  • Over a few decades, off-site construction (OSC) has been widely used for building and bridge constructions. OSC is a construction method that build structures at a different location than the location of use, and normally it occurs in a manufacturing plant. There are many studies on the perceived benefits of OSC, yet relatively few studies which quantitatively assess the benefits and factors affecting the decision of the use of OSC have been investigated. This study investigates the influencing factors of the use of OSC system and its revitalization solutions in the construction industry. As the research method, interview and questionnaire survey are conducted by visiting industry experts of OSC and sending a questionnaire to the OSC stakeholders including engineers, manufacturers, contractors and clients in the United Kingdom (UK). The construction industry of the UK is targeted for the study since it has a number of commons with the Korean construction industry in terms of the structure of the construction industry and current low take-up of the OSC. The survey provides the results that the reluctance of clients to use OSC is the key factor of the slow use of OSC despite of the perceived benefits of OSC. In addition, in order to revitalize OSC in the construction market, three revival recommendations are suggested based on the survey results.

  • The present study evaluated a preliminary control room (CR) design of radioactive waste facility using the $JACK^{(R)}$ human simulation system. Four digital humanoids ($5^{th}$, $50^{th}$, $95^{th}$, and $99^{th}$ percentiles) were used in the ergonomic evaluation. The first three were selected to represent 90% of the target population (Korean males aged 20 to 50 years) and the last to reflect the secular trend of stature for next 20 years in South Korea. The preliminary CR design was assessed by checking its compliance to ergonomic guidelines specified in NUREG-0700 and conducting an in-depth ergonomic analysis with a digital prototype of the CR design and the digital humanoids in terms of postural comfort, reachability, visibility, and clearance. For identified design problems, proper design changes and their validities were examined using JACK. A revised CR design suggested in the present study would contribute to effective and safe operations of the CR as well as operators' health in the workplace.

  • This paper introduces a facility simulation system for efficient error detection of smart factories. The facility simulation system, which can infer and solve errors autonomously when analyzing the relationship between plant facilities, is one of the important technologies for constructing a smart factory with high productivity. In order to implement this autonomic control system, it is necessary to be able to identify the status of facilities and analyze the relationship between facilities through the data of factory facilities. Therefore, in this paper, we design and develop a simulation program that can detect the equipment that causes the process error when an error occurs based on the process scenario using the defined equipment status. The simulation shows that the error inference process based on the process map and facility status is more efficient than the general error inference process. This simulation program provides an intuitive view of the reasoning and resolution of facility failures.

  • Due to the high occurrence rate of musculoskeletal disorders(MSDs), many Korean companies adopted various assessment tools to evaluate workers' musculoskeletal stress. Using the results of this evaluation, tasks were selected for improvements. However, there are still many workers who complained of musculoskeletal stress of their tasks. Their tasks usually consist of repetitive activities and a short rest cycle. This prompts a concern of reliability of the evaluation tools and especially RULA. Thus in this study, OCRA(The Occupational Repetitive Action tool) was used to check whether RULA(Rapid Upper Limb Assessment) evaluates workers' musculoskeletal stress reasonably well since OCRA has been known to be a good evaluation tool for repetitive tasks and tasks with short recovery periods. The evaluation was conducted on 142 tasks. It was found that 65 tasks showed higher action levels by OCRA than by RULA. However, 13 tasks showed the reversed result and 64 tasks showed the same level regardless of the evaluation tool. It was concluded that either RULA or OCRA alone cannot evaluate all types of tasks very well. It is suggested that OCRA needs to be used with RULA together for the evaluations of musculoskeletal stress at workplaces where repetitive activities and short recovery periods exist.

  • The clamp, as the structure which is used for supporting the pipe in the atomic power plant, is produced with a certain degree of anticlastic curvature in the current manufacturing process. In this study, the structural analysis of the clamp and the pipe was performed using ABAQUS. And the finite element modelling for the analysis was made by an HyperMesh. The contact forces which are transferred between the clamp and the pipe for the external force are changed according to the binding force of bolts and keeps the clamp tightly and protects the slipping between the clamp and the pipe. The clamps with the anticlastic curvature and with the flat curvature are considered in order to invest the anticlastic effect. In this study, another case is suggested. The present case does not have the stiffness ring on the end of the clamp but the suggested case has the ring. For the present case, the results showed that the equivalent stress is higher in the anticlastic curvature case than in the flat curvature case and the equivalent stresses on the pipe are almost the same as the binding force increses. For the suggested case, the result showed that the equivalent stress in the anticlastic curvature case decreases until some binding force and increases as the binding forces increase and is lower in some range than in the flat curvature case. From this study, the clamp with the anticlastic curvature in the suggested method is better than the clamp with the flat curvature and the optimal binding force are given.

  • In this paper, our goal is to design the controller which operates a manufacturing system, discrete event system, guaranteeing user specification. In specially, based on supervisory control theory W. M. Wonham, our work consists in performing the controller using Petri nets possible parallelism. In addition, we consider the problem of allocation for resources sharing of the issues to consider when designing using Petri net. The controller can be generated by synthesis of user specification model and plant model after giving the management for the resource sharing. This created controller can control the deadlock and starvation which can occur in the case with resource sharing. Previous studies proposed the Constrained Synchronous Reachability graph to synthesis of the two Petri nets models. Therefore, we provide the controlled system which forbids a deadlock and starvation using the result of previous studies.

  • In general the chemical composition of glass ceramics in Li2O-Al2O3-SiO2 system is similar to the composition of $\beta$-spodumene (Li2O-Al2O3-4SiO2). With the object to manufacture the glass ceramics which can be produced in the domestic pot the composition of glass was so settled at 1.0 Li2O.0.9Al2O3.6.0SiO2 in order to reduce the contents of Li2O, to prevent the corrosion of the pot and to decrease the cost of raw materials. 0.2 mole and 0.1 mole of the mixture of TiO2 and ZrO2 as nucleants were added to the basic composition of 1.0 Li2O-0.9Al2O3-6.0SiO2. Each sample was divided into two kinds with a TiO2/ZrO2 ratio of 2 to 1 and the other with a TiO2/ZrO2 ratio fo 1 to 1. Thermal expansion coefficient, the most important property of glass ceramics, was tested. The softening point and the melting point of the samples were observed by the use of a heating microscope. The results obtained were as follows. The manufacturing of glass ceramics seems to be possible in the industrial plant using the domestic pot. 1) The composition of the glass which can be melted in the domestic pot process was near 1.0 Li2O.0.9Al2O3.6.0SiO2. 2) The temperature range of crystal creation and crystal growth was between 850-94$0^{\circ}C$, and 5 hours holding the samples at the temperature range was enough to crystallize them. The major crystal was $\beta$-spdumene and there existed petalite partialy. 3) The thermal expansion coefficient fo the crystallized glass was negative. 4) The deforming point of the crystallized glass was 1435$^{\circ}C$.

  • Steel used for various industrial fields including ammunition is vulnerable to corrosion so surface treatments are required such as plating, painting and chemical conversion coating. Zinc phosphate, used for ammunition manufacturing, is used to stick the stable compound on the surface by chemical conversion of metal. The quality of phosphate coating depends on many factors such as total acidity and iron content. In this study, we studied the influence of total acidity and iron content on coating weight and corrosion resistance of phosphate coating. The surface structure of the coating becomes dense and corrosion resistance is improved with increasing iron content. However, total acidity influences only the thickness and phosphate coating weight. In conclusion, this study suggests the optimal range of total acidity and iron content to manufacture the ammunition.
