  • In industries, the capability indices $C_p$ and $C_{pk}$ can be used to provide measures of process potential capability and performance, respectively. The new approach advocated by Taguchi in quality control overcomes some problems in other approaches preventive management activities. Taguchi introduces the emphasis on loss function to improve quality of products on the side of customer. The proceeding concept of capability indices is not rational for the measurement of quality if the process mean is not equal to target value. The Taguchi approach is said to be more reasonable than the others in quality evaluation because of his loss function. However, the capability indices $C_{pm}{^+}$ and $C_{pn}$ using Taguchi's loss function only consider, acceptance cost for deviation from target value within specification limits. In other words, they do not include rejection cost for nonconformings that are failed to fall on the specification limits.

  • This study conducts an empirical analysis of how the suggestion activity, most widely used in quality control activities, interacts with the dimensions of learning organizations. The study also attempts to analyze the results of Six Sigma based on sub-dimensions of learning organizations, which are infrastructure, culture and system. In order for learning and innovation to take place in implementing a Six Sigma program, the organizational infrastructure and culture are created and sustained and then, a learning organization system would become effective. In this study, a empirical model is used to demonstrate such an association. The sample consists of 134 organizations who have implemented a Six Sigma program for more than three years. Using the version 16.0 of AMOS for structural equation modeling, the study estimates the structural equation model that has a Six Sigma organization's infrastructure, culture and system as independent constructs, the suggestion system as a mediator, and the performance of Six Sigma projects as a dependent construct.

  • This study, in particular, studied the consortium-participating companies on their plans of Quality Management as to how they carry them out in order to advance to the first-class business enterprises. These companies' present status and activities under implementation identified and interpreted by this study, therefore, are insufficient to be generalized into knowledge applicable to most of the companies in Gangwon-do. For more precise and detailed results, it is suggested to make further studies that cover not only those consortium companies but also non-consortium manufacturing companies if Gangwon-do.

  • Related to the on-going "Train Control System Project of Pilot Line Construction for Urban MAGLEV Train", activities by each phase shall be conducted to achieve SIL4 level and obtain safety certification from the Independent Safety Assessment(ISA), based on the IEC standards((IEC 62278/62279 and IEC 62425) for the first time in Korea. This thesis describes the introduction of IEC standards, system assurance activities (such as plan, analysis, test, verification and validation) in compliance with requirements management and project life-cycle and relations with the safety assessment activities; and certification activities (such as document reviews and audits) through system RAMS activities, software quality assurance activities and safety assessment, for the purpose of achieving a successful safety certification at the time of completing the project as system assurance activities including software and safety certification activities in order to acquire the safety certification for train control system which does not exist at all in domestic cases. It is believed that overall system safety assurance activities in this project will contribute to develop more upgraded products of the domestic train control system on the quality and safety point of view, find overseas markets and establish a bridgehead in the future.
