  • Despite the importance of the marital treatment in the recovery process of alcohol dependency, the domestic situation lacks the programs for recovering alcoholic couples. It is very hard to find any program for couples with an alcoholic in recovery. Most of the related researches only deal with hospitalized patients and their families due to their limitations in contact with appropriate subjects. This imposes a limit in their expert and validity. This research finds its aim in investigating the needs of recovering alcoholic couples and of clinical professionals, and providing basic data for the development of program for recovering alcoholic couples. This research was studied with 20 recovering alcoholic couples with a mean duration of 3.9 years of sobriety and 10 clinical professionals with a mean duration of 7.5 years of alcohol-abuse counseling experience. As a result, it appeared that a marital program that covers communication skills, sex, domestic violence, financial problems and original family issues in relation with codependency would be appropriate; the program would also involve issues about relapse.

  • This study proposes a plan for the residents to have a capacity to build a family-friendly community on their own. As there is not a family-friendly community related program developed for "Resident's Capacity Reinforcement", three programs closely related with family-friendly community program were analyzed instead. Analysis showed that first, the community spirit must be emphasized to maintain the characteristics of family care with social support. Second, educational contents must reflect resident's capacity elements that are necessary for participating in the family friendly community building stages. Third, there is a necessity for systematization of education courses into beginner, intermediate, and specialty course given education is continued. Fourth, there is a necessity for the curriculum that may be used for the family friendly community building to foster human and material resource management ability. Therefore, framework for the educational contents suggests X-axis and Y-axis presented by person-business and morphogenic-morphostatic as referred to Ulrich(1997),s human resource model. However, this study has limitations because educational program of 'livable community building' are analyzed for the plan to reinforce capacity to build family-friendly community. There is a necessity for continuing to improve the program by in depth interview or social survey with residents and leader in community.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to develop a mentoring program for stress management among Korean adolescents and to assess the effects of the program. Methods: The nonequivalent control group (CG) pretest-posttest design was used in this study. The mentoring intervention was delivered to 18 middle school students (males and females) but nothing was done to the control group consisting of 18 students. The mentoring intervention was conducted by seven nursing students who participated in the program as mentors using various methods such as individual meetings and group activities. The dependent variable was stress level. Results: The program consisted of group and individual mentoring. At follow-up, although the mentees's satisfaction was high and they stated qualitatively positive experience, the difference of stress level between the two groups was not significant. Conclusion: If future mentoring programs reflect the limitation of the current program, they may have potential as developmentally appropriate interventions for stress management of adolescents, and enable nursing students to gain confidence in their professional capability.
