현장실험을 통한 축산시설로부터 배출되는 축산악취의 확산 평가 (Evaluation of Odor Dispersion from Livestock Building through Field Experiment)

  • Livestock odor is comprised of mixed type of odorous compounds. Among these, ammonia ($NH_3$) and hydrogen sulfide ($H_2S$) are the two known major odor causing substances. Because high odor concentration reduces productivity of livestock and causes damage to the surrounding communities, quantitative analysis is needed to manage the odor inside and outside the livestock facilities. It is also necessary to evaluate odor dispersion according to the distance between the receptors taking into account the influence of odor source and weather condition. Therefore, in this study, we tried to evaluate the internal environment and odor dispersion from experimental pig house considering weather conditions. An experimental farm was specifically selected to eliminate the interference of odors generated by adjacent farms. $NH_3$ and complex odor were quantitatively analyzed using a gas detector and air dilution sensory method. The concentration of $NH_3$ and complex odor in pig house showed a distinct concentration difference according to the cleaning and ventilation conditions. $NH_3$ concentration and complex odor was lower than emission standard in the pig house and at the site boundary. The average $NH_3$ concentration (P1~P3) and the $NH_3$ concentration at the site boundary (S1) were strongly correlated with R=0.77. While the correlation for complex odor inside and at the site boundary had R=0.52. The correlation coefficient between $NH_3$ and the complex odor was 0.80.

열처리가 마늘과 김치에서 발생되는 휘발성 유기화합물에 미치는 영향 (Heat Effects for the Volatile Organic Compounds emitted from Garlic and Kimchee)

  • 생마늘과 김치에서 발생되는 휘발성 유기화합물에 대해 열흡탈착 혹은 퍼지/트랩을 이용한 가스크로마토그래프/질량선택성 검출기법에 의해 분석하였다. 메틸알릴 황, 이메틸 황, 이메틸 이황, 이알릴 황, 이알릴 이황, 메틸알릴 이황, 이알릴 이황 및 이메틸 삼황과 같은 대단히 악취가 강한 성분이 검출되었으며 이들 중 이메틸 이황과 이메틸 삼황은 김치의 숙성과정이나 마늘이 아닌 김치의 재료에서 발생된 것으로 추정되었다. 마늘이나 김치에서 발생되는 악취성분은 우리나라 사람의 입김이나 김치를 보관하는 냉장고 안의 공기 중에서도 검출되었다. 한국인의 입냄새나 냉장고 안의 냄새의 원인은 마늘이나 김치에서 발생되는 이황 화합물이 주성분으로 판단되었다. 이러한 냄새를 없애주는 간단한 방법으로 마늘이나 김치를 열처리하는 것이 대단히 효과가 있음이 밝혀졌다.

익산지역에서 직접관능법에 의한 악취관리 사례 연구 (Application case of odor management applied direct olfactory method in Iksan)

  • In Iksan city, there have been a lot of complaints caused by offensive odor from residents living near the public environmental infrastructures and the Iksan industrial complex. To solve these problems, it is important to know the present condition of odor pollution level in these areas, the emission characteristics of malodorous gases in temporal and spatial variations in addition to meteorological components, and the facilities of major sources emitting malodorous compounds. The objectives of this study is to make the odor monitoring network for 20 people who lived and worked in areas where the environmental infrastructures and the Iksan industrial complex are located and their neighboring areas for six months from June 1st to October 31st in 2008 in Iksan and to monitor the temporal and regional frequency and characteristics of odor intensity using direct olfactory methods. As a result of odor monitoring, the highest frequency of sensed odor per month and 20 people for six months was found to be 107 in July, followed by 84 in September, 80 in August, 54 in June, 38 in October, respectively. Odor intensity trend showed a regional trend in the decreasing order of Dongsan-dong, Busong-dong, and Palbong-dong. Odor was widely perceived from night through next morning and considered as the sense of excreta, chemicals, sewage, compost, waste, etc. When high odor intensity was sensed, there were constant meteorological characteristics: relative humidity was 80~90%, wind speed was less than 0.5~1 m/sec, and main wind directions were from the east, the southeast, and the south.

Los Angeles와 San Francisco의 악취 저감 시스템을 통해 본 우리나라 하수도의 악취 저감 방안 (The measures to reduce sewer odor in South Korea through sewer odor reduction system in Los Angeles and San Francisco)

  • Urban sanitary sewer systems can aid in preventing inundation, and can improve civil health by effectively disposing stormwater and wastewater. However, since sewage odor can cause adverse effects, numerous technical and administrative studies have been conducted for reducing such odor. European countries and the United States of America (USA) built modern sewer systems in the late 19th century, and have since been endeavoring to eliminate sewage odors. Several cities of the USA, such as Los Angeles (LA) that has a separate sewer system and San Francisco (SF) that has a combined sewer system, have produced and distributed odor control master plan manuals. Features common in the odor reduction plans of both these cities are that the odor reduction programs are operated in all the respective local regions and are supported by administrative systems. The primary aspectual difference between the two said programs is that the city of LA employs a sewage air purification system, whereas the city of SF controls the emission of major odor causing compounds. Compared to the existing sewer odor reduction systems of these two cities, South Korea is still in the initial phase of development. Through technical studies and policy implementations for sewer odor reduction, a foundation can be laid for improving the civil health quality.

Determining the Optimal Cooking Time for Cooking Loss, Shear Force, and Off-Odor Reduction of Pork Large Intestines

  • The objective of this study was to determine the optimal cooking time by considering the cooking loss, shear force, and off-odor reduction of pork large intestines. Commercial pork large intestines were purchased, quartered perpendicularly, and cooked in boiling water for 40, 120, 180, and 240 min. Cooking loss of the samples increased after 240 min of cooking (10.92, p<0.05) while shear force value was lower at 240 min (4.45) compared to that at other cooking times (p<0.001). The amount of major volatile organic compounds showed a decreasing trend with increasing cooking time. In particular, the amount of methyl pentanoate (17,528.71) and methyl isobutyrate (812.51), compounds with a relatively low odor threshold, decreased significantly after 120 min of cooking and no change was observed thereafter (p<0.05). In addition, the amount of 2-pentanol (3,785.65) and 1-propanol (622.26), possibly produced by lipid oxidation, significantly decreased at the same cooking time (p<0.001). In the principal component analysis, only the 40 min cooking time was significantly different from other cooking time by high amounts of 1-propanol, 2-pentanol, and methyl isobutyrate. In conclusion, in the present study, the optimal cooking time for pork large intestines was 120 min in terms of off-odor reduction, cooking loss, and shear force.

흡착 열탈착 장치와 GC/MS를 이용한 휘발성 유기화합물의 분석과 악취원인 성분의 예측 - 음식물 퇴비화 과정에서 발생되는 악취분석의 예 - (Analysis of Volatile Organic Compounds by GC/MS with the Thermal Desorber and Characterization of the Major Components Attributing to Malodor -An Analytical Example of the Odor Emitted from the Compost of Food Waste-)

  • 흡착/열탈착/GC/MS를 이용하여 우리나라와 일본의 법정 악취성분을 한 컬럼으로 동시분석이 가능한가를 검토하였다. 트리메틸아민, 아세트알데히드, 메틸메르캅탄, 이메틸황 은 대략적인 농도를 추정할 수 있었으며, 스티렌, 이황화메틸, 이황화이메틸 그리고 프로피온알데히드 n-부틸알데히드 i-부틸알데히드 n-발레르알데히드 i-발레르알데히드, 아세트산에틸, 톨로엔, 자일렌, 메틸이소부틸케톤, 이소부탄올에 대해서는 최소감지농도까지 검출할 수 있음을 확인할 수 있었다. 악취성분의 동시 분석 예로서 음식물 쓰레기의 퇴비화 과정에서 발생되는 휘발성 성분을 농축시켜 흡착/열탈착/GC/MSD에 의해 분석하고 각 성분의 농도와 최소 냄새감지 농도로부터 악취원인 성분을 예측하였다. 분석결과 34가지 물질에 대해 확인하였고, 이 중 트리메틸아민, 이소발레르알데히드, 메틸메르캅탄, 메틸알리황, 이메틸황, 아세트알데히드, 에탄올, n-부틸알데히드의 순으로 악위에 기여할 것으로 예상되었다.

생물살수여과법을 이용한 공기 중 VOC 제거 기술 (Technology of VOC Removal in Air by Biotrickling Filter)

  • Biological methods are frequently used for treatment of contaminated air, containing volatile organic compounds and odor compounds in low concentrations and high flow rate of air streams. For more than 20 years. biofilter has been recognized as a cost effective technology for the purification of contaminated air. Most commercial applications before 1990 were for control of odors. In the past decades major progress has been accomplished in the development of vapor phase bioreactor. in particular biotrickling filers. Biotrickling filters are more complex than biofilters. but are usually more effective, especially for the treatment of compounds which are difficult to degrade or compounds that generate acidic by-products. While the level of understanding of biotrickling filtration process for VOCs still remains limited. the evidence success of biotreatment of VOC in air resulted in pursuing active research. This paper presents fundamental and practical aspert of VOCs treatment from air in biotrickling filter. Special emphasis is given to the operating parameters and the factors influencing performance for biotrickling filter.

대기 배출 사업장의 알데하이드류 배출특성 (A Study on the Emission Characteristics of Aldehydes from Various Industries)

  • Objectives: The emission characteristics of aldehydes were investigated in five industries for the efficient management of aldehydes. Methods: Aldehydes and THC were measured from the stack and boundary of facilities. The relative concentrations and odor contribution of aldehydes were evaluated. Results: The concentrations of aldehydes in the asphalt manufacturing and printing industries were relatively high. Formaldehyde met emission limits for all facilities. According to the odor contribution analysis of aldehydes, i-valeraldehyde and butyraldehyde, which have a relatively low odor threshold value, were found to be the major odor-causing substances in the painting and textile processing industries. Conclusions: Among the aldehydes, the major emission compounds were formaldehyde in asphalt manufacturing, acetaldehyde in the paper manufacturing and textile processing industries, and butyraldehyde in the printing and painting industries. Therefore, to increase the effectiveness of aldehyde reduction, proper control devices need to be installed and operated according to the emission characteristics of aldehydes.

GC/FPD를 이용한 환경기초시설 폐기물의 대기중 황계열 악취물질 배출특성에 관한 연구 (Determination of Major Reduced Sulfur Gases Emitted from Wastes Stored in Environmental Facility Using GC/FPD)

  • 우리나라는 경제발전과 더불어 하수종말처리장과 음식물쓰레기처리시설의 수가 꾸준히 증가해왔다. 이들 시설들은 상수원 수질보전과 음식물쓰레기 재활용과 같은 긍정적인 역할을 수행하지만 한편으로는 심각한 악취문제를 유발해 인근주민들의 쾌적한 생활을 해치고 있는 실정이다. 이에 본 연구에서는 부산시 환경기초시설에서 발생되고 있는 탈수슬러지케잌 및 음식물쓰레기샘플을 채취, 황화수소 발생 가능량을 예측함과 동시에 발생 가능량이 많을 것으로 나타난 1개 시료를 선정하여 실험실 규모의 Flux Chamber 실험을 통해 대기 시료를 포집하여 GC/FPD분석을 실시, 혐기성 상태일 때 이들 처리장폐기물에서 대기 중으로 배출하는 황계열 악취물질에 대한 배출농도 측정결과를 제시하고자 하였다. 황화수소발생량이 가장 많은 시료는 녹산 하수처리장의 슬러지 샘플로 농도가 156.18mg/kg이었고, GC/FPD로 분석을 실시한 결과를 토대로 악취농도지수(Odor Quotient)를 산정해 본 결과 개별 악취물질중 $CH_3SH$(methylmercaptan)이 총악취농도지수에서 차지하는 비율이 47.3%로 가장 주요 악취원인물질로 나타났다.

발효방법 및 대두품종을 달리한 청국장의 향기성분 (Volatile Compounds of Chonggugjang Prepared by Different Fermentation Methods and Soybean Cultivars)

  • 발효방법에 따른 청국장의 휘발성 성분을 비교 조사하기 위해 증자대두에 Bacillus subtilis를 접종시킨 시험구(I), 1차 종균으로서 Lactobacilli(ll) 혹은 Aspergillus oryzae(III)를 접종시켜 소정시간 발효후 Bacillus subtilis를 추가 접종시킨 시험구, 그리고 볏짚을 접종원으로 한 시험구(IV)의 청국장제품을 각각 연속증류추출장치를 사용하여 휘발성 성분을 추출 농축하고 GC와 GC/MS를 이용하여 휘발성 성분을 분석 동정하였다. 그 결과 Bacillus subtilis 단용 발효구(I)와 볏짚을 접종원으로 사용한 시험구(IV)에서 각각 35종과 46종의 휘발성 성분이 검출되었고 Lactobacilli처리구(II)에서는 29종의 휘발성 성분이 검출되었는데 시험구(I), (IV)에 비해 향미성분으로 알려진 2,3,5-trimethyl pyrazine, 2,5-dimethyl pyrazine 등의 함량이 각각 2.2배, 1.5배 증가되었다. 또한 Asp. oryzae처리구(III)에서는 총 36종의 휘발성 성분이 분리 동정되었고 이들 성분 중에서 hexadecanoic acid, 2-methyl pyrazine성분이 많이 검출된 반면 청국장의 불쾌취로 알려진 butyric valeric acid는 검출되지 않았다. 대두 품종별로 제조한 청국장의 휘발성 성분을 비교 검토한 결과 신팔달콩을 원료대두로 사용한 시험구의 청국장이 향미성분은 증가한 반면 불쾌취 성분은 감소되었다.
