  • Among the destruction instances of half-through arch bridges, the shorter hangers are more likely to be ruined. For a thorough investigation of the hanger system durability, we have studied vehicle impact effect on hangers with vehicle-bridge coupling method for a half-through concrete-filled-steel-tube arch bridge. A numerical method has been applied to simulate the variation of dynamic internal force (stress) in hangers under different vehicle speeds and road surface roughness. The characteristics and differences in impact effect among hangers with different length (position) are compared. The impact effect is further analyzed comprehensively based on the vehicle speed distribution model. Our results show that the dynamic internal force induced by moving vehicles inside the shorter hangers is significantly greater than that inside the longer ones. The largest difference of dynamic internal force among the hangers could be as high as 28%. Our results well explained a common phenomenon in several hanger damage accidents occurred in China. This work forms a basis for hanger system's fatigue analysis and service life evaluation. It also provides a reference to the design, management, maintenance, monitoring, and evaluation for this kind of bridge.

  • Failure code system must include data of maintenance history, classification of failure, affective range and situation when failure occur. But the present failure code system have used a simple code system for classification to include only merchandise and tools. Advantageously, expansional standard code system that will be developed, it make that users can take steps of standardized overhaul and inspection as proposal maintain contents when failure occur or something wrong in vehicle of urban transit. Standardized failure codes must be developed and used that manufacturing companies and urban transit operating companies in order to give effect to maintenance works.

  • Operation and maintenance stage consists the largest portion of project life cycle cost. Appropriate management and analysis of such stages have massive effect on the total project cost. The effective prediction of optimized repair period is one of main factors in ㅌ management. However, it has been analyzed that the prediction of appropriate repair period revealed limitations in reliability. Therefore, this study suggests a methodology of repair period prediction by dividing finished projects into similar groups with same properties to be compared with the target project using quantitative variables.

  • Life-cycle performance and maintaining cost predictions are required for the effective management for bridges. In Korea, the importance of management of bridges has been recognized over the past two decades, resulting in the development of databases and various bridge management support tools by both government and private sectors. However, none of these tools has truly included the expected features of the bridge management system (EMS) for the next generation such as the quantification of the effects of maintenance interventions on bridge condition and safety. In this paper, a novel quantification process to simulate the life-cycle performance of steel box bridges has been developed. The process is based on the Response Surface method. Various performance-related variables aloe investigated to identify a set of significant design variables to construct the response surfaces.

  • This paper presents a comprehensive analytical approach for determining key maneuver parameters associated with the acquisition and maintenance of the ground track for a low-earth orbit. A livearized model relating changes in the drift rate of the ground track directly to changes in the orbital semi-major axis is also developed. The effect of terrestrial atmospheric drag on the semi-major axis is also explored, being quantified through an analytical expression for the decay rate as a function of density. The non-singular Lagrange planetary equations, further simplified for nearly circular orbits, provide the desired relationships between the corrective in-plane impulsive velocity increments and the corresponding effects on the orbit elements. The resulting solution strategy offers excellent insight into the dynamics affecting the timing, magnitude, and frequency of these maneuvers. Simulations are executed for the ground track acquisition and maintenance maneuver as a pre-flight planning and analysis.

  • In general, the deterioration induced by the freezing and thawing cyclic in concrete structures often leads to the reduction in concrete durability by the cracking or surface spalling. If it can prediction of concrete deterioration subjected to cyclic freezing and thawing, we can rationally do the design of mix proportion in view of concrete durability and the maintenance management of concrete structures. Therefore in this study a prediction method of deterioration for concrete structures subjected to the irregular freezing and thawing is proposed from the results of accelerated laboratory freezing and thawing test using the constant temperature condition and the in-situ weathering data. Furthermore, to accurately predict the concrete deterioration, a method of modification for the effect of hydration increasing during rapid freezing and thawing test is investigated.

  • It is required to determine proper values for the maintenance factor according to traffic volume in the freeway lighting design. This paper presents a simple method to seperate of the effect of surrounding environment and that of traffic volume, which is based on the IESNA treatment with additional assumptions on their effects. Furthermore, it is found that prevailing concept for the maintenance factor does not necessarily yield a proper value for light loss factor, so that an additional factor of 0.9 should be included as an equipment factor.factor.

  • This study has suggested the base data for decision of maintenance ranking and estimation of maintenance effect in the maintenance project of sewers as based on investigation of the defective rate in the sewer through Infiltration/Inflow(I/I) and CCTV analysis. It also analyzed the correlation between I/I and defective rate of sewer. As the result of this study, (1) Defective items of sewer was found out one item each 12.97m with an average. (2) By regression analysis, I/I has high correlation with defective rate of sewer like that $R^2$ is 0.7806. (3) The first thing in the item with bad influence on the I/I was joint badness and secondary was cross connection.

  • Talk-Back systems comprised of master-equipment at the control room and slave-equipment at turnouts refer to the intercommunication facilities that optimize mutual communication between maintenance staff on trackside and the control room to facilitate quickness and accuracy of train operation control and its maintenance within depot and on mainlines with turnouts for direction switching of the trains in operation. The weakness lies in additional maintenance costs of cables since the Talk-Back system installed on line 1 along with line 2-4 has a profound effect on the voice quality leading to the attenuation and crosstalk of the system due to the deterioration of cables and environmental factors. This paper discusses the Talk-Back system in a radio communication environment with the application of RF(Radio Frequency) communication system from the wire communication system by cables to ameliorate these problems, and deals with the energy saving environmentally friendly facilities in consideration of replacing power section at salve-equipment with solar batteries benefitting the system in light of energy consumption.

  • Diesel engines emit PM and NOx during combustion. This is the main culprit of fine dust, which seriously affects the atmospheric environment. In particular, large-sized diesel vehicles over 3.5 tons emit a greater amount of pollutants because of their large displacement. The occurrence of vehicle abnormalities in this large-scale diesel vehicle causes even greater problems in the atmospheric environment. It was confirmed that there were many problems caused by natural regeneration DPF among large-sized diesel vehicles. Therefore, the most effective maintenance plan is suggested.
