Seismic Evaluation of Structural Integrity of Main Cooling-Water Pump by Response Spectrum Analysis (응답스펙트럼법을 이용한 지진하중을 받는 원전용 주냉각수펌프의 내진 건전성 평가)

  • To evaluate the structural integrity of the main cooling-water pump of a nuclear power plant under different seismic conditions, the seismic analysis was performed in accordance with IEEE-STD-344 code. The finite element computer program, ANSYS, was used to perform both mode frequency analysis and response spectrum analysis for the pump assembly. The natural frequencies, the mode shapes, and the mode participation factors were obtained from the results of the mode frequency analysis. The stresses resulting from various loadings and their combinations were within the allowable limits specified in the above-mentioned IEEE code. The results of the seismic evaluation fully satisfied the structural acceptance criteria of the IEEE code. Thus, it was proved that the structural integrity of the pump assembly was satisfactory.

Through Flow Analysis and Leakage Flow of a Regenerative Pump (재생펌프의 유동해석 및 누설유동에 관한 연구)

  • Flows in a regenerative pump were calculated for several flow-rates, using the CFX-Tascflow. The calculated results show the vortex structure in the impeller and side channel. The predicted performance shows considerable discrepancy from the measured values for low flow rates. Main source of the difference is the leakage flow of pump strongly affecting the performance of pump. A simple correlation was proposed using calculated leakage flows through the simplified passage. One dimensional analysis were made for the recirculating flow and angular momentum transfer using calculated three dimensional data base.

A Numerical Study on the Effect of Volute Geometry on the Performance of Centrifugal Pump (볼류트 형상이 원심 펌프의 성능에 미치는 영향에 대한 수치 해석적 연구)

  • In this study, the effects of volute area distribution on the performance of a centrifugal pump were numerically studied using a commercial CFD code. To reduce the shutoff head, maintaining head and efficiency at a design flow rate, the flat head-capacity characteristic curves in which the head varies only slightly with capacity from shutoff to design capacity are frequently required. In order to control the shutoff head of a pump, several volute cross-sectional area distributions were proposed as a main parameter with the same impeller geometry The calculation results show that the slope of the performance characteristic curve of the centrifugal pump can be controlled by modifying the area distribution from volute tongue to volute outlet with fixed volute outlet area and also varied volute outlet area.

  • Recently industry has moved towards automated operations with the goal of achieving better product quality greater productivity and reliability The pump design in characterized by extensive utilization of the related database which contains performance data. The inputs to the system are through interactive dialogue sessions and the basic input consist of flow rate, head, of fluid efficiency and the customer special requirements. These basic inputs along with the numerous rules in the knowledge bases and the mathematical modeling enable the effective design of the pump industry This paper represents the development of an automatic pump design system that was composed of a main program the data input module the drawing module the drawing edit module and was programed by the AutoLISP language under the Auto CAD program The developed system ultimately generates the design for a pump through the AutoCAD language.

  • A major concern on high-energy centrifugal pump is the potential for interaction of two-phase flow phenomena with mechanical response of the pumping elements. The other concern is the pressure pulsations created from trailing edge of the impeller blade and flow separation and recirculation at partial load in centrifugal pumps. These interactions generating between rotor and casing cause dynamic pulsation on pump and exciting pipeline vibration. The higher severity responses, the more lead to failure of pump and system components. Finally, it cause severe axial vibration of single stage pump due to the hydraulic instability in flow condition below BEP.

  • In this paper, the study presents the development of 34kW class cryogenic induction motor using LNG Pump. Operating temperature of an induction motor using LNG Main Cargo Pump is at −163℃. Due to variation of the resistivity, these motor have different torque characteristics. So, it should design to considering the resistivity change. The most important consideration of induction machine operating is cryogenic temperature. If the temperature rise, LNG is vaporized. it is a major cause of pump failure. There are several causes of heat source like coreloss, hysterisysloss, copperloss. This paper analyzed the thermal distribution of the induction motor at rated speed operation.

  • The flow fields of a lubrication oil pump has been simulated by using CFD in order to improve performance of the pump. The grid for the one flow passage is applied for estimating pump performance. The calculation result shows that there are unfavorable flow characteristics of flow recirculation in the casing part by the guide vane. Thus, the guide vane is modified to reduce the recirculation region. Performance test shows that the modified model pump efficiency is increased by $6\%$ at the rated point compared to that of the original model.

  • Mono pump rotors are widely used in wastewater treatment plants, medicine, cosmetics, paint, paper, and chemical manufacturing, dairy production, public works, agriculture, and so on. A mono pump comprises two main parts: the rotor and stator. Typically, the rotor is machined using an expensive whirling machine. In this study, we developed an algorithm for 4-axis machining of the rotor on machining center (MCT). NC-code was obtained by applying the algorithm and finally the rotor of the mono pump was machined on a 4-axis MCT. Results of four sample experimental works showed close agreement with design geometries.
