  • By using the ac field source which can change the applied field magnitude, frequency and dc offset field, the dynamic magnetoresistance characteristics of permalloy based multilayers which have different R-H(resistance-magnetic field) curves were monitored and compared with static magnetoresistance curves that were measured with electromagnet of VSM. Output of each sample according to the external field strength was identified and optimum bias position could be obtained.

  • Tunnel magnetoresistive devices using an individual multi-walled carbon nanotube were fabricated and their low-temperature electrical transport propertiers were investigated. With the ferromagnetic Co electrodes, the multi-walled carbon nanotube exhibited hysteretic magnetoresistance curve at low temperatures. Depending on the temperature and the bias current, the magnetoresistance ratio can be as high as 16% at the temperature of 2.2 K. Such high magnetoresistance ratio indicates a long diffusion length of the multi-walled carbon nanotube.

  • This study examines a new macroscopic ferrimagnet, Co-TbN. This ferrimagnet, consisting of two metallic phases, Co and TbN, demonstrated the typical macroscopic ferrimagnet properties of a magnetic compensation point and a negative giant magnetoresistance (GMR). The Co-TbN system with 32% TbN composition showed 0.72% GMR in magnetic fields up to 8 kOe at room temperature and 9% GMR in 40 kOe at 250 K. In the Co-TbN system, GMR exhibited a different dependence on temperature from that of ordinary GMR materials whose negative magnetoresistance decreases with increasing temperature. In contrast to ordinary GMR materials whose negative magnetoresistance decreases with increasing temperature, the GMR effect in the Co-TbN system increased with increasing temperature, due to the increase of ferromagnetic alignment of the Co and TbN in the magnetic field caused by the decreased exchange coupling with increasing temperature.

  • Magneto resistance properties in spin-valve sandwiches with various thickness of nanmagnetic layer in contact with the ferromagnetic NiFe film were investigated. The NiFe layer in contact with the NiO film was pinned by strongly exchange-biased coupling and the free NiFe layer at the film surface induced a sharp change in the magnetoresistance at -5~15Oe due to small coercivity. The NiO/NiFe/Cu/NiFe film showed a magnetoresistance ratio in the range of 2.3~2.9% and a field sensitivity above 2.2%/Oe with various of nonmagnetic layer. The NiO/NiFe/Cu/NiFe film of the field sensitivity above 2.2%/Oe suggests stang possibility of magnetic sensor matter.

  • The magnetoresistance properties of NiO/NiFe/Cu/NiFe spin valve film deposited on MgO(100) substrate with YBa$_2$$Cu_3O_7$(YBCO) film were investigated at room temperature and at 77 K. The magnetoresistance (MR) curves of the hybrid superconductor-magnetoresistor film structure showed an exchange coupling field of 300 Oe and an inverse magnetoresistance ratio of -6.5%. The magnetization configurations of the two magnetic layers in the NiO spin valve were antiparallel due to an increment in the conduction electron flow to superconductor YBCO film. This sample showed an inverse MR ratio.

  • The composition and thickness dependence and the ferromagnetic under- and overlayer effect on the magnetoresistance ratio and saturation field of the Co-Ag nano-granular films were investigated. The maximum magnetoresistance (23% at R.T.) in the as-deposited state was obtained in the $3000{\AA}$ $Co_{30} Ag_{70}$ bare alloy film. As the thickness of the alloy films decreased below $500{\AA}$, the MR ratio decreased because of the resistivity increase and the non-uniform film formation. We showed that the ferromagnetic over- and underlayer could reduce the saturation field of the nano-granular films via exchange coupling effect. The magnetoresistance and the saturation field of the $100{\AA}$ alloy film were 3.65 % and 2.85 kOe respectively and those of the under- and overlayered alloy films with $200{\AA}$ Fe were 3.3 % and 1.23 kOe respectively.

  • The water level and temperature properties for the cooling system of potassium titanyl phosphate laser systems were observed. The middle point of the GMR-SV magnetoresistance curve is set in the neighborhood of high magnetic sensitivity (2.8 %/Oe). The experimental results for resistance dependence on water height and temperature showed linear regions with rates of 0.4 ${\Omega}/mm$ and 0.1 ${\Omega}/^{\circ}C$, respectively. The proposed results were found to be for adjusting the water level and temperature in the laser cooling system.

  • We studied the effect of easy magnetization axis orientation with respect to the strip direction by measuring the magnetoresistance(MR), the magneto-optic Kerr effect(MOKE), and real-time domain evolution. The five strips were patterned on a single chip with the easy axis orientation of each strip relative to the longitudinal direction by around $0^{\circ}$, $18^{\circ}$, $36^{\circ}$, $54^{\circ}$ and $72^{\circ}$, respectively. The overall shape of field dependent MR was mostly governed by the anisotropy magnetoresistnace. The relative change of the longitudinal MR was significantly increased with increasing angle between the easy axis and strip direction, whereas, the transverse MR variation rate was decreased with increasing angle. Several MR steps were observed during the magnetization reversal, and the simultaneous measurement of the MOKE and the domain images identified that the MR steps were associated with evolution of the oppositely directed magnetic domain.

  • Recent years have seen a rapid development of spintronics. One of the major achievements of this field is the understanding of spin dependent process in various physical systems, for example, metallic multilayers showing the giant magnetoresistance (GMR). Today devices based on the GMR are revolutionizing electronic data storage. In this paper, we review recent developments in the research on GMR of low dimensional structures. We describe the magnetoresistance properties of magnetic multilayers, multilayered nanowires and nonopillars, etc.

  • Change in the electrical resistance of artificial superlattice under two magnetic fields-the main and the secondary magnetic field-has been studied with respect to each magnetic field strength in (200) textured Co/Cu artificial superlattice. When the two magnetic fields were applied in the same direction, lateral shift of the magnetoresistance curve occurred, while splitting phenomenon of the maximum resistance appeared when the two magnetic fields were applied at the right angle. When the angle between the two magnetic fields became $45^{\circ}$ shifting as well as splitting occurred in the magnetoresistance curve. This magnetoresistance behavior with double magnetic fields in the artificial superlattices could be explained with the macroscopic spin alignment model newly suggested in this work.
