Mechanical properties and radiation shielding performance in concrete with electric arc furnace oxidizing slag aggregate

  • In this study, physical properties of normal concrete, magnetite concrete, EAF concrete, and EAF concrete with added iron powder were evaluated and a feasibility of radiation shielding is also evaluated through irradiation tests against X-rays and gamma-rays. While the unit weight of EAF concrete (3.21 t/㎥) appeared lower than that of magnetite concrete (3.50 t/㎥), the results in compressive strength of EAF concrete were greater than those in magnetite and normal concrete. While the radiation transmission rate of normal concrete reaches 26.0% in the X-ray irradiation test, only 6.0% and 9.0% of transmission rate were observed in magnetite concrete and linear relationship with unit volume weight and radiation shielding. In the gamma-ray irradiation test, the performance of EAF and magnetite concretes appeared to be similar. Through the results on the excellent physical properties and radiation shielding performance a potential applicability of EAF concrete to radiation shielding was verified.

마그네타이트와 금속(Ti, Al)의 기계적 합금화에 의한 복합분말의 합성 (Fabrication of Composite Powders by Mechanical Alloying of Magnetite-M (M = Ti, Al) Systems)

  • Recently, it has been found that mechanical alloying (MA) facilitates the nanocomposites formation of metal-metal oxide systems through solid-state reduction during ball milling. In this work, we studied the MA effect of Fe$_{3}$O$_{4}$-M (M = Al, Ti) systems, where pure metals are used as reducing agents. It is found that composite powders in which $Al_{2}$O$_{3}$ and TiO$_{2}$ are dispersed in $\alpha$-Fe matrix with nano-sized grains are obtained by mechanical alloying of Fe$_{3}$O$_{4}$ with Al and Ti for 25 and 75 hours, respectively. It is suggested that the large negative heat associated with the chemical reduction of magnetite by aluminum is responsible for the shorter MA time for composite powder formation in Fe$_{3}$O$_{4}$-Al system. X-ray diffraction results show that the reduction of magnetite by Al and Ti if a relatively simple reaction, involving one intermediate phase of FeAl$_{2}$O$_{4}$ or Fe$_{3}$Ti$_{3}$O$_{10}$. The average grain size of $\alpha$-Fe in Fe-TiO$_{2}$ composite powders is in the range of 30 nm. From magnetic measurement, we can also obtain indirect information about the details of the solid-state reduction process during MA.

자철석 가루 투입을 통한 푸르푸랄의 혐기성 소화 개선 효과 조사 (Enhancing Anaerobic Digestion of Furfural Wastewater through Magnetite Powder Supplementation)

  • The effect of magnetite particles on the anaerobic digestion (AD) of furfural wastewater was investigated using sequential anaerobic batch tests. The batch tests with four 500 mL anaerobic bioreactors were performed under two conditions: FC treatment for AD of furfural without magnetite particles, and FM treatment for AD of furfural with magnetite particles. The FC bioreactors showed a decreasing methane production rate (MPR) across the sequential batches, with a final batch MPR of 11.3 ± 0.4 mL CH4/L/d, indicating the need for a methanogenesis enhancer to achieve high-rate AD of furfural. Conversely, FM bioreactors exhibited significantly higher MPR, exceeding FC values by 4-196%, with a final batch MPR of 33.5 ± 0.1 mL CH4/L/d, which was about three times higher than FC. Additionally, FM bioreactors had faster degradation rates of furfural, valeric acid, and acetic acid compared to FC, with values exceeding those in PC by 3.0, 1.14, and 2.8 times, respectively. These results demonstrate that magnetite particles can enhance the AD of furfural not only by accelerating methanogenesis but also by accelerating the anaerobic degradation of furfural and its intermediates, such as volatile fatty acids. This study provides valuable insights for developing high-rate AD systems for furfural wastewater treatment.

자철광 및 철분말을 혼입한 고열전도 콘크리트의 열전도 평가 및 해석기법 비교에 대한 연구 (Study on Analysis Technique Comparison and Evaluation of High Thermal Conductivity Concrete with Magnetite Aggregates and Steel Powder)

  • 콘크리트는 경제적이면서 내구적인 건설재료로서 고단열성능을 가지고 있으므로 RC 구조물 뿐 아니라 내외장재에 많이 사용되고 있다. 또한 우수한 방사선 차폐 성능을 가지고 있으므로 원전구조물 및 플랜트 구조에 사용되고 있다. 그러나 이러한 고단열 성능으로 인해 내부에 원전구조물 내부에 화재나 멜트다운(melt-down)과 같은 문제가 발생하면 외부에서 인공적으로 온도를 낮출 방법이 매우 제한적이다. 이 연구는 자철광 골재와 철분말을 이용하여 고열전도 콘크리트를 제조하고 이에 대한 역학적 성능과 열전도 특성을 평가하였다. 자철광 골재를 체적비 최대 42.9%, 철분말을 1.5% 혼입하여 열전도 특성을 분석하였다. 자철광골재의 체적비가 30% 수준까지는 큰 열전도가 평가되지 않았으나, 이후 선형적으로 증가하여 체적비 42%가 되었을 때, 열전도는 2.5배 수준으로 증가하였다. 또한 철분말을 포함한 경우는 포함하지 않은 경우에 비해 열전도가 106~113% 증가하였다. 기존의 열전도 모델(ACI, DEMM, MEM)의 결과들이 실험 결과와 비교되었으며, 이러한 모델들은 자철광 및 철분말이 함유된 고열전도 콘크리트에 대해서도 합리적으로 적용될 수 있음을 검증하였다.

수면 유포 유류의 제거에 미치는 자성유체의 특성 (The Properties of Magnetic Ferrofluid for the removal of oil from water surface)

  • Magnetite powder for kerosene-based ferrofluid was synthesized by air oxidation of waste acid containing $Fe^{2+}$ and $Fe^{3+}$ ions in the pH=11 at $60^{\circ}C$. Stable kerosen-based ferrofluid was prepared by addition of polyoxyethylene nonylphenyl ether(POENPE) to the magnetite containing water. Dispersion mechanism of an addition POENPE to the magnetite was examined by means of the fraction of solid dispersed FT-IR spectrum. And magnetic properties of kerosen-based ferrofluid were examined by method of Vibrating Sample Magnetometer. In order to remove oil on the water surface by an addition of kerosen-based ferrofluid, the optimum conditions were examined.

Influence of Lewis Base on the Nonstoichiometry and the Properties of Magnetite Films Prepared by Aqueous Solution Method

  • Lewis bases were employed to control the stoichiometry of ferrite film prepared by light enhanced plating (LEP) technique. When 2,2'-bipyridyl was used as a Lewis base, conversion electron Mosbauer spectroscopy (CEMS) and x-ray powder diffraction (XRD) experiments showed that the main component of the ferrite films was metal-deficient magnetite (Fe3(1-δ)O4). Nonstoichiometry and roughness of LEP films were increased by the addition of 2,2'-bipyridyl. Using ethylenediaminetetraacetate (EDTA) as a Lewis base, produced film that was a mixture of magnetite and Υ-FeO(OH). No low temperature transition (Verwey transition) of magnetite was detected in resistivity and ac-susceptibility measurements for the LEP films. Surface morphology of the LEP films was observed by atomic force microscopy (AFM). The size of dominant particles was about 0.2 μm.

  • 본 연구에서는 자성일성분용 흑색 토너의 자성체인 마그네타이트의 새로운 제조방법에 대해 연구를 하였다. 기존의 습식법과는 달리 건식법이라 할 수 있는 분무배소법을 이용하여 마그네타이트를 제조하였다. 이때 제조조건을 달리하며 제조된 마그네타이트분말의 특성을 수입제인 TMB 125와 비교하였다. 질소 분위기하에서 염화제일철과 염화제이철 수용액의 혼합비를 7:3~3:7까지 변화시켜 가면서 제조했을 때 100% 마그네타이트 상을 관찰 할 수 있었고, 염화제일철의 농도가 그보다 크면 FeO의양이 많아지고, 염화제이철의 농도가 크면 $\Gamma-Fe_2O_3$의 양이 많아졌다. 두 염화철의 혼합비가 5:5일때, 분무배소법에 의해 제조된 마그네타이트의 보자력은 110~130Oe, 포화자화는 80~85emu/gdldlT다. 입자의 형태는 불규칙한 구형에 가깝고 입자의 평균크기는 $0.3~0.5\mu\textrm{m}$로 토너용 자성재료로서 매우 적합한 특성을 나타냈다.

ESTIMATION OF THE BEHAVIORS OF SELENIUM IN THE NEAR FIELD OF REPOSITORY

  • The sorption of selenium ions onto iron and iron compounds as a disposal container material and its corrosion products, and onto bentonite as a buffer material, was studied to understand the behaviors of selenium in a waste repository. Selenite was sorbed onto commercial magnetite very well in solutions at around pH 9, but silicate hindered their sorption onto both magnetite and ferrite. Unlike commercial magnetite and ferrite, flesh synthesized magnetite, green rust and iron greatly decreased selenium concentration even in a silicate solution. These results might be due to the formation of precipitates, or the sorption of selenide or selenite onto an iron surface at below Eh= -0.2 V. Red-colored Se(cr) was observed on the surface of a reaction bottle containing iron powder added into a selenite solution. Silicate influences on the sorption onto magnetite and iron for selenide are the same as those for selenite. Even though bentonite adsorbed a slight amount of selenite, the sorption cannot be ignored in the waste repository since a very large quantity of bentonite is used.

자성유체의 스피커 댐핑효과에 관하여 (Befitting Test of Magnetic Fluid to Speaker Damper)

  • 자성유체의 자기력, 점성, 비열등을 이용한 댐핑효과로 스피커의 대출력화, 고급화를 도모할수 있다. 공침법으로 합성한 magnetite에 올레인산을 피복하고 윤활유에 분산하여 스피커 댐퍼용 자성유체를 제조하였다. 제조한 자성유기체의 자기적 특성, 전도 및 열안정성을 측정하였고, 이를 고음스피커인 6cm tweeter에 적용하여 댐핑효과와 방열효과를 평가하였다. 일본 NFC의 APG-815 자성유체의 특성돠 비교하였을 때 고체비율 20%로 제조한 자성유페는 자기적특성, 온도상승에 따른 점도변화, 댐핑효과 및 방열특성이 APG-815와 같거나 우수하였다.
