A high efficiency small electromagnet (22 mm air gap and $40{\times}25mm^{2}$ core's cross section) suitable for measuring magnetostriction and magnetic anisotropy was biult. The magnet could be minaturized by reducing the measuring space and time. The excitation current of the electromagnet was supplied for only a few second of measuring time. Cooling system of the electromagnet could be eliminated since the dissipation energy was very small. An 0.5 T magnetic field was generated with 180 W power consumption. The values of magnetostriction and magnetic anisotropy were measured with a very sensitive capacitance cell with resolution of $10^{-8}$ and 1 nJ. The torque was calibrated using a soft magnetic ribbon's shape anisotropy.

In this Paper, we suggest the precision stage using a novel non-contact planar actuator that utilizes an interaction between an array type of air-core solenoids and permanent magnets. The former with axes arranged in the mutually orthogonal direction is fixed on the stator and the latter with the same polar direction is attached below the stage. The promising magnetic structure has little uncertainty such as hysteresis loss caused by ferromagnetic material, then it is simple to quantify the magnetic phenomenon. And all the magnetic forces are transmitted through narrow air-gap between the coil and the permanent magnet, therefore the structure can be highly compacted. Furthermore, the stage or plate can be perfectly isolated from the stator without any wire connection, leading to diminish the generating possibility of wear particles due to mechanical contact. Then. it is estimated that the proposed operating principle is very suitable for work requiring high accuracy and cleanness. or general-purpose nano stage. The main issues rebated to the plate driving are discussed here.

A moving-coil-type linear motor, designed and fabricated, is consisted of the NdFeB permanent magnets with high specific energy as the stator, a coil-wrapped nonmagnetic hollow rectangular structure and an iron core as a pathway for magnetic flux. The interaction between permanent magmet and armature fie1d, so called "push/pull effect", is to shift the airgap flux density variation due to the magnet alone by a certain amount. Thrust therefore is shift downward or upward. The push/pull effect was presented through the FEM analysis and the static tests. We compared the thrust obtained through the FEM analysis with the static tests. Finally, we present the linearity and correction coefficients of the thrust in consideration of the push/pull effects.l effects.

High speed brushless permanent magnet(PM) machines need a key technology to minimize the iron core losses in stator and the eddy current losses in the retained sleeve and magnets caused by slotting harmonics. Thus, slotless or iron-coreless brushless PM machines have been applied for a very high rotational speed and/or the ripple-free torque. Unfortunately, slotless or coreless PM machines have lower open-circuit field than slotted and/or iron-cored types, which cause to reduce power density. Fortunately, Halbach array can generate the strong magnetic field systems without additional magnetic materials. In this paper, the 4-pole Halbach array is applied to the high speed machine and is compared with the radial magnetized PM array in field system. The iron-/air-cored stator of PM machine is constructed with/without winding slots. Open circuit magnetic fields of each type are presented from the analytical method and finite element method. Consequently, it is confirmed that the Halbach array field system with slotless stator is more suitable to the high speed motor because it has high flux density, sinusoidal flux distribution than others.

Owing to rapid development of power device and inverters, most of submarines adopt an eletric propulsion system. Although PMPM(Permanent Magnet Propulsion Motor) propulsion system has relatively higher power, energy conversion efficiency and smaller volume than engine propulsion system, it also produces large amount of heat due to current flowing inside motor coils and change of magnetic field induced by iron core. The produced heat in stator and inverter largely affects motor efficiency and bearing lubrication and causes thermal aging while the system is on operation. So, we analyze the existing cooling system and submarine ESS (Energy Saving System) cooling system whose power consumption is reduced. HILS(Hardware In the Loop System) technique is used for the modelling of the submarine cooling system. To confirm the ESS cooling system characteristic, HILS is simulated using LabVIEW with hardware. As a result, the ESS cooling system has the characteristic of better temperature stability and less power consumption than the existing one.

In this paper, 3 D.O.F. actuator, which has three degrees of freedom in one joint, is proposed. The proposed 3 D.O.F. spherical actuator is composed of the rotor and atator. The upper plate of the stator supports the rotor and five electromagnets are located at the base of the stator. The rotor has two permanent magnets, and each rotational axis of the rotor gimbal system is supported by the bearing. To find out the governing equations for the torque generation, Coulombs law and Lorentz force with respect to magnetism is applied. As the experimental results, if the distance between electromagnet and permanent maget is far enough, the force between these magnets can be expressed from current of coils and z-axial distance. For the purpose of control 3 D.O.F. actuator, PID control law is applied. The experimental results are presented to show the validity of the proposed 3 D.O.F. actuator.

A magnetically levitated micro-positioner is implemented to avoid mechanical friction and increase precision. Since magnetic levitation system is inherently unstable, most concern is focused on a magnetic circuit design to increase the system dynamic stability. For this, the proposed levitation system is constructed by using an antagonistic structure which permits a simple design and robust stability. From the dynamic equations of motion, it is verified that the proposed magnetically levitated system is decoupled in 6 degree-of-freedom motion. Experimental results are presented in terms of time response and accuracy.
The coreless linear synchronous motor (coreless LSM) has been widely used as a driving source of semiconductor production processes for machine speeding up, positioning accuracy and simple maintenance. However, this coreless LSM suffers the disadvantage of decreased thrust force created by the leakage of magnetic flux. With the goal of increasing the generated thrust force and decreasing the cogging force, the slot of the core part was removed and a moving-coil-type slotless LSM (moving-coil-type slotless LSM) is proposed in this paper. Although this moving-coil-type slotless LSM with a back-yoke at the primary side demonstrated an increase in the generated thrust force, it remained capable of generating the cogging force when the primary side was moved due to the position between the permanent magnet and the back-yoke. Therefore, we attempted to decrease the cogging force of the moving-coil-type slotless LSM. We found that the back-yoke length at the primary side needs to be made $0.5{\tau}$ longer than the integral multiple of the magnetic pole pitch in order to decrease the cogging force created by the moving-coil-type slotless LSM.

The reliability and accuracy of the information on control rod position are very important to the reactor safety and the design of the core protection system. A survey on the RSPT(Reed Switch Position Transmitter) type control rod position indicator system and its actual implementation in the existing nuclear power plants in Korea was performed first. The control rod position indicator having the high performance for SMART was developed on the basis of RSPT technology identified through the survey. The arrangement of permanent magnet and reed switches is the most important procedure in the design of control rod position indicator. The hysteresis of reed switches is one of the important factors in a repeat accuracy of control rod position indicator as well. This paper investigates efficiency of the magnetic flux concentrator and the hysteresis using FEM and verified differences in physicals characteristics by comparing the results of FEM and those of the experiment. As a result, it is shown that the characteristics of prototype control rod position indicator have a good agreement with the results of FEM.
This paper describes the dynamic analysis method and the characteristics of rotating type transverse flux motors excited by permanent magnets; the machine is called TFRM in here. A prototype of TFRM, made by combing soft magnetic composite (SMC) core, is introduced first, then the magneto static and dynamic analysis methods are explained. Analysis results are compared with measured results, and finally the effects of the proposed dynamic analysis method and the characteristics of TFRM are discussed.
