  • Objectives : The aim of this study was to identify the factors affecting ideas of persecution in post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) patients who underwent Clinician-Administered PTSD Scale (CAPS) and Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory-2 (MMPI-2). Methods : We retrospectively reviewed 116 patients who underwent CAPS and MMPI 2 between May 2013 and April 2020 at Veteran Health Service Medical Center. Based on the CAPS score, the patients were divided into the PTSD group (n=63, age: 58.16±17.84) and the trauma exposed without PTSD group (n=53, age: 67.34±12.05). After checking the correlation between Ideas of persecution, CAPS, and MMPI-2 scales, linear regression analysis was performed to identify the risk factors for clinically relevant symptoms. Results : The PTSD group showed significant differences in Schizophrenia, Ideas of persecution, Dysfunctional negative emotions, Aberrant Experiences, Psychoticism, Negative Emotionality/Neuroticism, Anxiety, Depression, and Anger scales compared to the trauma-exposed without PTSD group. When analyzing the correlation between Idea of persecution, CAPS and MMPI-2 scales, there was a strong association with most of the scales in MMPI-2 and Idea of persecution except Disconstraint. Multiple linear regression analysis performed in PTSD group identified that risk factors for Idea of persecution were Dysfunctional negative emotions and Anger scale. Conclusions : The PTSD group had increased idea of persecution compared to the trauma exposed without PTSD group. Dysfunctional negative emotions and anger may be risk factors for idea of persecution in trauma exposed population.

  • Objective:Present study investigated the relationship between mothers' self-perception and perception of children's problems. Method:Subjects were 63 children, mothers, who visited child & adolescent psychiatric clinic. Their mothers completed Minnesota Mulpiphasic Personality Inventory(MMPI) & Korean Personality Inventory for Children(KPI-C). Correlation between validity scales of mothers' MMPI and validity scales of KPI-C was analysed, and then we divided subjects into two group(High & Low Group) according to the MMPI validity scales, and compared KPI-C's validity scales by student t-test. Result:There were significant positive correlation(r=.30) between K scale of MMPI and L scale of KPI-C, significant negative correlation(r=-.32) F scale of MMPI and L scale of KPI-C. The Means of T scores did show significant difference according to MMPI F, K scales in KPI-C L scale, to MMPI L scale in KPI-C F scale. Conclusion:These results indicated that defensive mothers tend to perceive her child's problems more defensively. However mothers who exaggerate their problem more severely, do not exaggerate their children's problem. Therefore, these result suggested that we should be careful not to underestimate children's problem whose mother elevated in K scale of MMPI.

  • Objective : Previous studies have suggested an association between sleep-related breathing disorder (SRBD) and several psychological problems, and there were increasing recognition of the link. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the characteristic profiles of MMPI and SCL-90-R in patients with SRBD. Methods : This study consisted of 80 SRBD patients(73 men, 7 women) referred from Sleep Disorder Clinic of Dong-A University Hospital, Busan, Korea. Basic informations including demographic findings and physical examination were collected. Subjects completed the Epworth Sleepiness Scale(ESS), Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory(MMPI), and Symptom Check List-90-Revision (SCL-90-R) prior to standard overnight polysomnography that was performed at hospital sleep laboratory. SRBD was divided into two groups of primary snoring(PS) and obstructive sleep apnea(OSA) according to polysomnographic findings. Results : SRBD showed significant elevation rate of Hs, D, and Hy scales of MMPI and SOM scale of SCL-90-R, which exceeded the rate expected in normal individuals(>5%, 2SD). On comparison of clinical scales of SCL-90-R, OSA group had significantly greater mean score than that of PS group in terms of O-C, DEP, PAR, GSI(p<0.05), SOM and PST(p<0.01). OSA group also showed significantly higher elevation rate in Hs scale of MMPI and SOM scale of SCL-90-R than that of PS. Among OSA group, three scales of MMPI(D, Pt, Si) and three scales of SCL-90-R(ANX, PAR, PSDI) had significant correlation with some PSG variables including total sleep time and sleep efficiency. Among PS group, two scales of MMPI(Hy and Pt), elevation rate of MMPI scales and three scales of SCL-90-R(I-S, PAR, PSDI) had significant correlation with some PSG variables including sleep efficiency, sleep latency and REM sleep percent. Conclusion : The above results suggest that SRBD show neurotic profiles in MMPI and SCL-90-R. This study also clearly indicates that PS group are suffered from clinically meaningful psychiatric symptoms, which are quantitatively lessened but qualitatively similar as compared to that of OSA group.

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study was to examine the clinical utility of the internalization and externalization higher-order scales of the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory-Adolescent Restructured Form (MMPI-A-RF), compared with those scales of the Korean Child Behavior Checklist (K-CBCL). Methods : 43 adolescents with internalizing disorders and 44 adolescents with externalizing disorders and their parents were administered the MMPI-A-RF and K-CBCL each. To verify the difference between the internalization and externalization scales of the MMPI-A-RF and K-CBCL for each group, independent-sample t test was performed. To compare the agreement between the MMPI-A-RF and K-CBCL, correlation analysis was also conducted. Lastly, to identify which scales significantly best predict each of the internalizing and externalizing disorder, logistic regression analysis was conducted. Results : Internalization scales of the MMPI-A-RF and K-CBCL were significantly higher in the internalizing disorder group, and the externalization scales were significantly higher in the externalizing disorder group. The positive correlation was significant only for internalization problems between the two evaluation measures in both groups (each r=0.360, p<0.05, r=0.572, p<0.05). In addition, the scales significantly predicted internalizing and externalizing disorders were the internalization and externalization scales of the MMPI-A-RF, followed by the externalization scale of the K-CBCL (R2=0.407, p<0.05). Conclusions : The internalization and externalization higher-order scales of the MMPI-A-RF were found to reliably reflect the characteristics of each disorder in adolescents and be useful evaluative scales to differentiate disorders. Moreover, if adolescents show externalization problems, additional information from the K-CBCL can be more useful to differentiate disorders.

  • Objectives : The aims of this study were to investigate the psychopathology in adolescents with internalizing disorder using the self-report version of Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ-SR) and the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory for adolescents (MMPI-A), and to explore the complementarity between these two inventories for diagnostic assessment. Methods : Ninety-one patients aged 13-17 were divided into two groups by clinical diagnosis, 44 with internalizing disorder and 47 comparison group with other disorders. The data of SDQ-SR and MMPI-A completed by them were analyzed for the ability to predict internalizing disorder. Results : The logistic regression analysis revealed that diagnostic predictability increased by 2.27 times with every 1 point of SDQ-SR emotional symptom score increment. Comparison of ROC curves for internalizing disorders showed that the SE and SP of SDQ-SR emotional symptom with score over 4 was 88.94 and 78.72, respectively. For A-anx of MMPI-A with score over 56, SE and SP was 77.27 and 74.47, respectively. However, combination of these scales could not enhance the predictability of diagnostic classification more than that of SDQ-SR emotional symptom alone. Conclusions : Emotional symptom scale of SDQ-SR and A-anx, A-aln, A and INTR of MMPI-A should be important subscales for diagnosing the internalizing disorder of adolescents, however, which needs to be examined further with a larger sample size including normal control group.

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study was to examine the correlation between CSEI (The Core Seven-Emotions Inventory) and MMPI-2 (Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory-2). Methods: We analyzed the correlation between students' demographic characteristics, blood type, MMPI-2, and CSEI using the SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Science) 24.0. Descriptive Statistical Analysis, independent t-test, analysis of variance (ANOVA), subsequent analysis duncan (post hoc multiple comparison), and correlation analysis were conducted. Results: 1. According to the demographic characteristics of 91 participants in this study: 60 males (65.9%), 88 unmarried (96.7%), 58 without religion (63.7%), 54 who have experienced stress in the last three months (59.4%), and 82 in their 20s (90.1%) comprised the majority. 2. As a result of verifying correlation by subfactors of CSEI, Hui (喜) showed statistically significant negative correlation with U (憂), Bi (悲), and Gong (恐). Six emotions except Hui (喜) showed statistically significant positive correlation, except for the relationship between U (憂) and Kyeong (驚). 3. Hui (喜) of CSEI had negative correlation with eight factors of MMPI-2 Clinical Scales except Pa (Paranoia) and Ma (Hypomania), whereas Bi (悲) had positive correlation with nine factors of MMPI-2 clinical scales except Mf (Masculinity-Femininity). Sa (思), Bi (悲), and Gong (恐) had similar tendency of positive correlation with six factors of MMPI-2 Restructured Clinical Scales. Conclusions: Based on the above results, we concluded that CSEI's sub factors had consistent correlations with MMPI-2. Thus, CSEI could contribute to psychiatry clinical use.

  • Obesity is not classed in general psychiatry disease. But, psychoneurotic factor has been known to be a risk factor of obesity. In order to evaluate and understand the psychoneurotic state on obese patient, this study used Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory(MMPI). Total patients were classified into 3 or 5 clusters. MMPI scores were compared according to education, BMI and Sasang Constitution. Multiple regression analysis were used for psychological factor on obese patients by age, height, weight, education, percent body fat, fat distribution, BMI. Based on this study, it was no significantly difference by education level, BMI, sasang(四象) constitution except L profile according to BMI. These result is different from our general recognition of the psychoneurotic state on obese patient. Therefore, the bigger sample study is needed.

  • The purposes of this study were to investigate the actual condition and to deal with the psychological characteristics of computer addicted adolescent using the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI). The subjects of this study were 407(male 185, female 222) 2nd grade students in senior high school in Daegu. All participant were evaluated on the basis of the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI) and the upgraded Computer Addiction Inventory (CAI) scale which referred to the Young's Internet Addiction Self Diagnosis Scale and the Mind Test's Came Addiction. SPSS version 10.0 was used for data analysis. The scores of F, Hs, D, Pd, Pa, Pt, Sc of the MMPI scales showed that there were statistically significant differences between computer addicted adolescents and non-addicted adolescents. The rate of addicted adolescents was significantly higher than that of non-addicted adolescent in psychological problematic score ranges in the scales. The characteristics of the scores of computer addiction adolescents were similar to those of alcohol and drug addicts in the scales of D, Pd, and Pt. This survey revealed that the psychological disorders suffered by computer addiction adolescents may cause more serious social problems than alcohol and drug addicts.
