  • Because of the environmental matters the importance of the city railroad is as time goes by increasing. The case of obstacle of the power equipment which supplies electric power to city railroad will occur social and economical enormous loss. Thus, I studied on the preventing method in advance which makes it possible for us to maintain facilities efficiently. The main check points of the power facilities are voltage, current, humidity, partial discharge, move current. These points are gathered by sensor and transmitting to data acquisition device. These data are used to check equipment status in real time. In this paper I described in brief test process and results of the detection system.

  • Presently metro in our country has higher rate of passengers as a public transportation of urban area than other transportations. And road is under very restrictive condition to be expanded in many aspects because the streets are completely choked. Therefore increase of capacity in metro and reduction of headway has been seriously required and utmost efforts has been taken by related fields to meet the requirements.   • The main purpose of this paper is to analysis the growth process of new emerging Korean society in Georgia, the USA by investigating changes in the regional distribution of Korean business located in metro Atlanta region. More specifically, it aims to identify the characteristics of spatial distribution of Korean business in metro Atalanta through their locational trends since 1980s. To this end, it has explored the history of Korean migration into Georgia and the locational trends of Korean firms in metro Atlanta by industries. As a result, the main location of Korean firms has expanded into the northeastern regions of Atlanta due to the development of transportation, new regional development, education environment and changes in residential distribution by ethnic. Also, the main Korean business has transformed from retails and restaurant to real estate and finance because of changes in market strategies, institutions and Korean local migration.

  • This paper consider the condition monitoring technology of electrical machine in metro substation need for efficient and effective management and diagnosis. Developing management system using condition monitoring system is very competitive field, and still to a great extent seen as an unnecessary cost. There are several approaches to maintenance management in urban transit such as reliability-centered maintenance, availability-target maintenance and preventive maintenance to advanced approaches involving condition monitoring techniques. In this paper we give a brief introduction to condition-based management and diagnosis in metro substation and which management system satisfying various demanding in railway.

Transmission Performance Comparison of Direction Detection-Based 100-Gb/s Modulation Formats for Metro Area Optical Networks

  • Transmission performances of direct detection-based 100-Gb/s modulation formats are investigated and compared for metro area optical networks. The effects of optical signal-to-noise ratio sensitivity, chromatic dispersion, cross-channel nonlinearity, and transmission distance on the performance of differential 8-ary phase-shift keying (D8PSK), differential phase-shift keying plus three-level amplitude-shift keying (DPSK+3ASK), and dual-carrier differential quaternary phase-shift keying (DC-DQPSK) are evaluated. The performance of coherent dual-polarization quadrature phase-shift keying (DP-QPSK) with block phase estimation and coherent DP-QPSK with digital differential detection are also presented for reference. According to our analysis, all three direct detection modulation formats could transmit a 100-Gb/s signal over several hundred kilometers of a single-mode fiber link. The results also show that DC-DQPSK outperforms D8PSK and DPSK+3ASK, and the performance of DC-DQPSK is comparable to that of coherent DP-QPSK with digital differential detection. The maximum transmission distance of DC-DQPSK is over 1,000 km, which is enough distance for metro applications.

  • In the Korean subway station, three types of pre-filters, which include auto filter, electrostatic precipitator (ESP) and auto cleaning demister, are widely used. However, these devices have some problems such as the difficulty of maintenance and high operating cost. In this study, axial-flow cyclone separator was employed as a pre-filter inside a heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) system. 3-dimensional computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis was performed on a single unit axial-flow cyclone and coupled unit axial-flow cyclone. Calculated and measured pressure drop of the designed axial-flow cyclone were found be comparable to other types of pre-filters and the observed cut-off diameter was less than 10 micron. Considering lower operating and maintenance cost, axial-flow cyclone was proved to be a better solution as a pre-filter.

Classification of Seoul Metro Stations Based on Boarding/ Alighting Patterns Using Machine Learning Clustering (기계학습 클러스터링을 이용한 승하차 패턴에 따른 서울시 지하철역 분류)

  • In this study, we classify Seoul metro stations according to boarding and alighting patterns using machine earning technique. The target data is the number of boarding and alighting passengers per hour every day at 233 subway stations from 2008 to 2017 provided by the public data portal. Gaussian mixture model (GMM) and K-means clustering are used as machine learning techniques in order to classify subway stations. The distribution of the boarding time and the alighting time of the passengers can be modeled by the Gaussian mixture model. K-means clustering algorithm is used for unsupervised learning based on the data obtained by GMM modeling. As a result of the research, Seoul metro stations are classified into four groups according to boarding and alighting patterns. The results of this study can be utilized as a basic knowledge for analyzing the characteristics of Seoul subway stations and analyzing it economically, socially and culturally. The method of this research can be applied to public data and big data in areas requiring clustering.

  • Controlling the friction between wheel and rail is direct and very effective measures to improve the curving performances of railway trucks, because the curving performances depend much on friction characteristics. Authors have proposed a method, 'friction control', which utilizes friction modifier ($KELTRACK^{TM}$ HPF) with onboard spraying system. With the method, not only friction coefficient, but also friction characteristics can be controlled as expected. In this study, MBD simulation is very valuable tool to foresee the effect of the control in advance of experiment with real car. And the creep characteristics of wheel/rail contact with the friction modifier takes very important role in the simulation. In this paper, authors propose a theoretical model of wheel/rail contact condition considering the creep characteristics of friction modifier, which is derived the application of principle tribological theories.

Analysis on Rainwater Harvesting System as a Source of Non-Potable Water for Flood Mitigation in Metro Manila (마닐라의 홍수저감을 위한 잡용수 대체자원으로서의 가정용우수저류시설 분석)

  • Excessive precipitation, drought, heat waves, strong typhoons and rising sea levels are just some of the common indicators of climate change. In the Philippines, excessive precipitation never failed to devastate and drown the streets of Metro Manila, a highly urbanized and flood-prone area; such problems are expected to occur frequently. Moreover, the water supply of Metro Manila is dependent only to Angat Reservoir. Rainwater harvesting can serve as an alternative source of raw water and it can mitigate the effects of flooding. The harvested rainwater can be used for: potable consumption if filtered and disinfected; and non-potable consumptions (e.g., irrigation, flushing toilets, carwash, gardening, etc.) if used untreated. The rainfall data were gathered from all 5 rainfall stations located in Metro Manila namely: Science Garden, Port Area, Polo, Nangka and Napindan rain gauge stations. To be able to determine the potential volume of rainwater harvested and the potentiality of rainwater harvesting system as an alternate source of raw water; in this study, three different climatic conditions were considered, the dry, median and wet rainfall years. The frequent occurrence of cyclonic events in the Philippines brought significant amount of rainwater that causes flooding in the highly urbanized region of Metro Manila. Based from the results of this study, the utilization of rainwater harvesting system can serve as an alternative source of non-potable water for the community; and could also reduce the amount of surface runoff that could result to extreme flooding.

  • Recently, as various metro lines have been constructed and connected to other lines the rate of utilization has also been increased. However, the existing fare policy which the government does still stick to causes not only inappropriate action to the demand pattern but aggravation of the profit of the operation company. This study reviewed rail fare policy of major countries such as Japan and U.K etc. to improve the rationality of fare policy in Korea. In order to systematical analysis of fare policy, such viewpoints as of fare decision method, the card fare discounting system, the structure of fare, and the government subsidy policy were reviewed. Based on the results from the review, various problems and improvement plans were drawn. Through this study, appropriate fare systems to urban railway users could be given to improve the chronic deficit problem of urban railway operators.
