Performance Analysis of DVB-T2 Turbo Equalization with LDPC and MAP Detector (LDPC 복호와 MAP 등화기를 결합한 DVB-T2 터보 등화기법의 성능분석)

  • In this paper, a turbo equalizer is proposed for the digital video broadcasting for terrestrial - 2nd generation (DVB-T2) system. The proposed turbo equalizer is consisted with the maximum a posteriori (MAP) and low density parity check (LDPC) decoder. The channel information for the soft-input-soft-output (SISO) MAP equalizer is based on the least square (LS) channel estimator. The performance is analyzed through computer simulations in terms of the iteration number.

  • The telemetry standard adopts SOQPSK-TG with excellent power and bandwidth efficiency as a modulation technique, and LDPC code with excellent performance as an error correction code. The SOQPSK-TG transmitter consists of a precoder and a CPM modulator. Rather than implementing each receiver separately, the reception performance is improved by combining the trellis and implementing it as a Viterbi decoder. In this paper, the reception performance of LDPC-encoded SOQPSK-TG was evaluated by replacing the Viterbi decoder with a max-log-map decoder capable of soft metric output. As a result of computer simulation in AWGN channel, there is an Eb/No performance gain of about more than 0.7~0.8dB compared to the conventional method.

  • Recently, with the advance of Ubiquitous era, the types of services become diverse. Especially, due to the rapid development of mobile technology, the new functions of mobile phones are added and the new applications of mobile phones are developed actively. Among the various applications related to mobile phones, 2 dimensional barcode-based applications are increasing. 2 dimensional barcode is mostly used for the management of past record. However, by combing 2 dimensional barcode with mobile phones, the application areas of 2 dimensional barcode are expanded to the means of publicity for education, tourism, and festivals. In this paper, we develop a QR code decoder running on smartphones, which connects on-line and off-line. In addition, we modify our decoder by detecting the point for performance enhancement based on TRIZ. We compare our decoder with an open-source based decoder in terms of the code size of decoding and the speed of decoding in order to prove that our decoder has a better performance than the other. Finally, we introduce two applications: u-map and u-pamphlet as QR code applications.

  • In the recent digital communication systems, the performance of Turbo Code using the mr correction coding depends on the interleaver influencing the free distance determination and the recursive decoding algorithms that is executed in the huh decoder. However, performance depends on the interleaver depth that needs many delays over the reception process. Moreover, turbo code has been blown as the robust coding methods with the confidence over the fading channel. International Telecommunication Union(ITU) has recently adopted it as the standardization of the channel coding over the third generation mobile communications(IMT­2000). Therefore, in this paper, we preposed the interleaver that has the better performance than existing block interleaver, and modified turbo decoder that has the parallel concatenated structure using MAP algorithm. In the real­time voice and video service over third generation mobile communications, the performance of the proposed two methods was analyzed and compared with the existing methods by computer simulation in terms of reduced decoding delay using the variable decoding method over AWGN and fading channels for CDMA environments.

  • Block-wise MAP (Maximum A posteriori) decoding algorithm for turbo-codes requires less memory than Log-MAP decoding algorithm. The ER (Bit Error Rate) performance of previous block-wise MAP decoding algorithm depend on the block length and training length. To maximize hardware utilization and perform successive decoding, the block length is set to be equal to the training length in previous MAP decoding algorithms. Simulation result on the BER performance shows that the EBR performance can be maintained with shorter blocks when training length is sufficient. This paper proposes an architecture for area efficient block-wise MAP decoder. The proposed architecture employs the decoding schema for reducing memory by using the training length, which in N times larger than block length. To efficiently handle the proposed schema, a pipelined architecture is proposed. Simulation results show that memory usage can be reduced by 30%~45% in the proposed architecture without degrading the BER performance.

  • In this paper, We try to design combined source-channel coder that is compatible with video coding standards. This MAP decoder is proposed by adding semantic structure and semantic constraint of video coding standards to the method using redundnacy of the MAP decoders proposed previously. Then, We get the better performance than usual channel coder's.

  • 본 논문에서는 radix-4 방식을 이용한 고속 터보 MAP 복호 알고리즘을 제안하고 이를 설계하기 위해 VHDL 모델링 하였다. VHDL 시뮬레이션을 하기 위해 radix-4 방식의 터보 MAP 복호기의 구조를 설계하였으며, 복호속도 효율성을 분석하기 위해 기존의 Radix-2 방식의 복호기도 VHDL 시뮬레이션 하였다. 구현 결과, 약 2.4배의 복호속도 향상을 알 수 있었다.

Design of a Low-Power Turbo Decoder Using Parallel SISO Decoders (병렬 SISO 복호기에 의한 저전력 터보 복호기의 설계)

  • Turbo code is popularly used for the reliable communication in the presence of burst errors. Even if it shows good error performance near to the Shannon limits, it requires a large amount of memories and exhibits long latency. This paper proposes an architecture for the low power implementation of the Turbo decoder adopting the Max-Log-Map algorithm. In the proposed design, two SISO decoders are designed to operate in parallel, and a novel interleaver is designed to prevent the collision of memory accesses by two SISO decoders. Experimental results show that power consumption has been reduced by about 40% in the proposed decoder compared to previous Turbo decoders. The area overhead due to the additional interleaver controller is negligible.

  • In this paper, a butterfly Log-MAP decoding algorithm for turbo code is proposed. Different from the conventional turbo decoder, we derived a generalized formula to calculate the log-likelihood ratio (LLR) and drew a modified butterfly states diagram in 8-states systematic turbo coded system. By comparing the complexity of conventional implementations, the proposed algorithm can efficiently reduce both the computations and work units without bit error ratio (BER) performance degradation.

  • In this paper, an Adaptive Modulation (AM) system with an efficient turbo-coded Vertical-Bell-lab Layered Space-Time (V-BLAST) technique is proposed. The proposed decoding algorithm adopts iteratively the extrinsic information from a Maximum a Posteriori (MAP) decoder as a priori probability in the two decoding procedures of the V-BLAST scheme of ordering and slicing. In this analysis, each MIMO channel is assumed to be a part of the system of performance improvement.
