  • Recently, knowledge management has been required in companies as a tool of competitiveness. Companies have constructed Enterprise Resource Planning(ERP) system in order to manage huge knowledge. But, it is not easy to formalize knowledge in organization. We focused on data mining system by genetic programming(GP). Data mining system by genetic programming can be useful tools to derive and extract the necessary information and knowledge from the huge accumulated data. However when we don't have enough amounts of data to perform the learning process of genetic programming, we have to reduce input parameter(s) or increase number of learning or training data. In this study, an enhanced data mining method combining Genetic Programming with Self organizing map, that reduces the number of input parameters, is suggested. Experiment results through a prototype implementation are also discussed.

  • It is hard to find an operation case using anti-submarine searching pattern(ASSP) developed by Korean navy since Korean navy has begun submarine searching operation. This paper proposes the method to develop hull mount sonar(HMS) based optimal submarine searching pattern by using genetic algorithm. Developing the efficient ASSP based on theory in near sea environment has been demanded for a long time. Submarine searching operation can be executed by using ma ulti-step and multi-layed method. however, In this paper, we propose only HMS based ASSP generation method considering the ocean environment and submarine searching tactics as a step of first research. The genetic algorithm, known as a global opination method, optimizes the parameters affecting efficiency of submarine searching operation. Finally, we confirm the performance of the proposed ASSP by simulation.

  • The purpose of this work is to analyze the effect of structure parameter disturbance on the dynamic characteristics of a hydropower station powerhouse. A vibration model with a head-cover system is established, and then the general disturbance problem analysis methods are discussed. Two new formulae based on two types of disturbances are developed from existing methods. The correctness and feasibility of these two formulae are validated by analyzing the hydropower station powerhouse vibration model. The appropriate calculation method for disturbance of the hydropower station powerhouse vibration dynamic characteristics is derived.

  • Although retrofitting and strengthening reinforced concrete (RC) columns by wrapping fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) composites have become a popular technique in civil engineering, the study on reinforced high-strength concrete (HSC) columns is still not sufficient. The objective of these companion papers is to investigate the mechanical properties of reinforced HSC square columns confined by aramid FRP (AFRP) jackets under concentric compressive loading. In the part I of these companion papers, an experiment was conducted on 54 confined RC specimens and nine unconfined plain specimens, the considered parameters were the concrete strength, the thickness of AFRP jackets, and the form of AFRP wrapping. The experimental process and results are presented in detail. Subsequently, some discussions on the confinement effect, failure modes, strength, and ductility of the columns are carried out.

  • In this paper, analytical methods for calculating the average probability of bit error of direct sequence pulse amplitude modulation ultra wideband (DS-PAM UWB) system and time hopping pulse position modulation ultra wideband (TH-PPM UWB) system are given. For the multi-user DS-PAM UWB system, the bipolar pulse amplitude modulation is used in order to achieve better performance. As we know, more attention is paid to the TH-PPM UWB systems recently. In this paper. we first introduce the accurate BER calculation methods of the multi-user DS-PAM UWB and TH-PPM UWB systems and then give the performance analysis over the ideal AWGN channel and a correlation receiver. Furthermore, we also introduce their applications in image transmission and data transmission and give the simulation results. The analytical method yields simple and exact formulas relating the performance to the system parameters.

  • In this paper probabilistic fracture mechanics(PFM) approach is employed to evaluate the integrity of CANDU Zr-2.5Nb pressure tubes. Modified failure assessment diagram(Jr-FAD), plastic collapse, and critical crack length(CCL) approach are used for evaluating failure probability of the tubes. Jr-FAD was extended from the Kr-FAD because fracture of pressure tubes occurs in brittle manner due to hydrogen embrittlement of material by deuterium fluence. For developing the probabilistic integrity evaluation module, AECL procedures and fracture toughness parameters of EPRI were used.

  • This paper is concerned with an optimum design study of containerships in preliminary stage by applying economic criteria. The Net Present Value Index (NPVI) and the Required Freight Rate(RFR) are used as measures of merit. Hooke & Jeeves direct search method and External Penalty Function method of Sequential Unconstrained Minimization Techniques(SUMT) are used for solving constrained nonlinear optimization problem. Sensitivity analysis is carried out to investigate the effect on the optimum solution due to change of values in some parameters such as crane capacity, load factor, oil price, ship speed and the ratio between loaded FEU and TEU.

  • Numerical and visualization procedures are used in a finite difference grid to analyze and better understand the heat transfer in the MEMS based air micro-jet array (MIA) impingement cooling device. The Navier-Stokes (NS) equations with incompressible flow are solved using an implicit procedure. The temperature contour and velocity vector visualization diagrams are used for illustration. The computed temperature distribution at the bottom of the MIA is in good agreement with the experimental measurement data. The parameters are investigated to improve the efficiency of heat transfer in the MIA. The optimum configuration of the MIA is suggested. The present modeling explains the flow phenomenon and yields valuable information to understand the flow and heat transfer in MIA.

  • Longitudinal studies repeatedly measure outcomes over time. Therefore, repeated measurements are serially correlated from same subject (within-subject variation) and there is also variation between subjects (between-subject variation). The serial correlation and the between-subject variation must be taken into account to make proper inference on covariate effects (Diggle et al., 2002). However, estimation of the covariance matrix is challenging because of many parameters and positive definiteness of the matrix. To overcome these limitations, we propose autoregressive moving average Cholesky decomposition (ARMACD) for the linear mixed models. The ARMACD allows a class of flexible, nonstationary, and heteroscedastic models that exploits the structure allowed by combining the AR and MA modeling of the random effects covariance matrix. We analyze a real dataset to illustrate our proposed methods.

  • This paper analyzes a robust optimal reinsurance and investment strategy for an Ambiguity-Averse Insurer (AAI), who worries about model misspecification and insists on seeking robust optimal strategies. The AAI's surplus process is assumed to follow a jump-diffusion model, and he is allowed to purchase proportional reinsurance or acquire new business, meanwhile invest his surplus in a risk-free asset and a risky-asset, whose price is described by an Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process. Under the criterion for maximizing the expected exponential utility of terminal wealth, robust optimal strategy and value function are derived by applying the stochastic dynamic programming approach. Serval numerical examples are given to illustrate the impact of model parameters on the robust optimal strategies and the loss utility function from ignoring the model uncertainty.
