  • An account of second-order fractional-step methods and boundary conditions for the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations is presented. The present work has aimed at (i) identification and analysis of all possible splitting methods of second-order splitting accuracy; and (ii) determination of consistent boundary conditions that yield second-order accurate solutions. It has been found that only three types (D, P and M) of splitting methods called the canonical methods are non-degenerate so that all other second-order splitting schemes are either degenerate or equivalent to them. Investigation of the properties of the canonical methods indicates that a method of type D is recommended for computations in which the zero divergence is preferred, while a method of type P is better suited to the cases when highly-accurate pressure is more desirable. The consistent boundary conditions on the tentative velocity and pressure have been determined by a procedure that consists of approximation of the split equations and the boundary limit of the result. The pressure boundary condition is independent of the type of fractional-step methods. The consistent boundary conditions on the tentative velocity were determined in terms of the natural boundary condition and derivatives of quantities available at the current timestep (to be evaluated by extrapolation). Second-order fractional-step methods that admit the zero pressure-gradient boundary condition have been derived. The boundary condition on the new tentative velocity becomes greatly simplified due to improved accuracy built in the transformation.

  • Amorphous $Fe_{83}B_9Nb_7Cu_1$ alloy has been studied by M$\"{o}$ssbauer spectroscopy. Revised Vincze method was used and distributions of hyperfine field, isomer shift, and quadrupole line broadening of the sample at various temperatures have been evaluated and Curie temperature and $H_{hf}\;(0)$ were calculated to be 393 K and 231 kOe, respectively. Temperature variation of reduced average hyperfine field shows a flattered curvein comparison with the Brillouin curve for S=1. This behavior can be explained on the basis of Handrich molecular field model, in which the parameter Δ, which is a measure of fluctuation in exchange interactions, is assumed to have the temperature dependence ${Delta}=0.75-0.64{\tau}+0.47{\tau}^2$ where $\tau$ is $T/T_C$. At low temperature, the average hyperfine field can be fitted to $H_{hf}\;(T)=H_{hf}\;(0)\;[1-0.44\;(T/T_C)^{3/2}-0.28(T/T_C)^{5/2}-… ]$, which indicates the presence long wave length spin wave excitations. At temperature near TC, reduced average hyperfine field varies as $1.00\;[1-T/T_C]^{0.39}$. It is also found that half-width of the hyperfine field distribution was 102 kOe (3.29 mm/s) at 13 K and decreased monotonically as temperature increased. Above the Curie temperature, an average quadrupole splitting value of 0.43 mm/s was found. Average line broadening due to quadrupole splitting distribution was 0.31 mm/s at 13 K and decreases monotonically to 0.23 mm/s at 320 K, whereas that due to the isomer shift distribution is 0.1 mm/s at 13 K and 0.072 mm/s at 320 K, which is much smaller than that of both hyperfine field and quadrupole splitting. The temperature dependence of the isomer shift can be fitted within the harmonic approximation to a Deybe model with a Debye temperature ${Theta}_D=424{\pm}5K$.TEX>.

  • The study was carried out to investigate the viability of mouse embryos bisected at the stages of 8-cell, morula and blastocyst and, also, to find out the feasibility of offspring production by transfer of the bisected blastocysts with Quick-splitting. The results obtained are summarized as follows: 1. The mouse embryos were bisected with bio-cut blade at the stages of 8-cell and morula, and cultured in Medium 2. The bisected embryos were developed to blastocyst stage by 64% and 81%. respectively. 2. The blastocyts which were cultured in Medium 2 after being bisected at the stages of 8-cell and morula were observed normal outgrowth in Ham's F-10 medium by 86% and 90%, respectively. 3. The blastocyts which were Quick-splitted in Medium 2 were observed normal outgrowth by 97%. however, no offspring was obtained by transfer of Quick-splitted blastocysts.

  • Unitary matrix modulation (UMM) is investigated in multiple antennas system that is called unitary space-time modulation (USTM). When we consider only diagonal components of UMM with splitting over the coherence bandwidth, the system can obtain frequency diversity in a single antenna system. In Rayleigh fading channel, we compared USTM/OFDM with 2Tx-antenna with UMM-S/OFDM with 1Tx-antenna, conventional multi-level OFDM and UMM-S/OFDM with changing bit rate per Hz. Also, we analyzed SNR for between multi-level modulation STBC/OFDM and multi-level modulation UMM-S/OFDM with changing transmission rate. When it was adaptive multi-level modulation to improve SNR, we did the UMM-S/OFDM system performance analysis of N-ary PSK and M-ary QAM.

  • This study numerically investigates the unsteady flow and acoustic characteristics of a flapping wing using a hydrodynamic/acoustic splitting method. The Reynolds number based on the maximum translation velocity of the wing is Re=8800 and Mach number is M=0.0485. The flow around the flapping wing is predicted by solving the two-dimensional incompressible Navier-Stokes equations (INS) and the acoustic field is calculated by the linearized perturbed compressible equations (LPCE), both solved in moving coordinates. Numerical results show that the hovering sound is largely generated by wing translation (transverse and tangential), which have different dipole sources with different mechanisms. As a distinctive feature of the flapping sound, it is also shown that the dominant frequency varies around the wing.

  • A new junction-splitting based SAR ADC with a redundant searching capacitor array structure in $0.13{\mu}m$ CMOS process to alleviate capacitor mismatch effects, is presented. The normalized average power has a factor of 0.35 to the conventional SAR ADC at 10-bit conversion accuracy. Statistical experiments show the number of missing codes resulting from the mismatch reduces by 95% for 3% unit-capacitor mismatch ratio, while keeping the conversion energy to that of the conventional JS capacitor array.

  • The turbulence noise generated from blunt trailing-edge is numerically predicted by using the hydrodynamic/acoustic splitting method at the Reynolds number based on thickness of flat plate, $Re_h=1000$, and the freestream Mach number $M_o=0.2$. The turbulent flow field is simulated by incompressible large-eddy simulation and the acoustic field is predicted efficiently with the linearized perturbed compressible equations (LPCE) recently proposed by the authors. The turbulent flow characteristics are validated with the results of the previous experimental study and direct numerical simulation. The acoustic properties predicted from LPCE are compared with the solutions of analytical formulations.

  • We investigated the characteristics of Strained-Si-on-Insulator (sSOI) MOSFETs with 0.7% tensile strain. The sSOI MOSFETs have superior subthreshold swing under 70 mV/dec and output current. Especially, the electron and hole were increased in sSOI MOSFET. The electron and hole mobility in sSOI MOSFET were 286$cm^2/Vs$ and 151$cm^2/Vs$, respectively. The carrier mobility enhancement is due to the subband splitting by 0.7% tensile strain.

  • Engineering properties such as compressive strength, splitting tensile strength, modulus of rupture, modulus of elasticity and Poisson's ratio of geopolymer concrete (GPC) and steel fibre reinforced geopolymer concrete (SFRGPC) have been obtained from standard tests and compared. A total of 15 specimens were tested for determining each property. The grade of concrete used was M 40. The percentages of steel fibres considered include 0.25%, 0.5%, 0.75% and 1%. In general, the addition of fibres improved the mechanical properties of both GPC and SFRGPC. However the increase was found to be nominal in the case of compressive strength (8.51%), significant in the case of splitting tensile strength (61.63%), modulus of rupture (24%), modulus of elasticity (64.92%) and Poisson's ratio (50%) at 1% volume fraction of fibres. An attempt was made to obtain the relation between the various engineering properties with the percentage of fibres added.
