To prevent the food poisoning originated by consumption of shellfish contaminated with domoic acid, the quantitative analysis of domoic acid is to be very important. The stability of domoic acid at different temperature, pH and light was investigated using high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). The mean recoveries of domoic acid in the methanol extracts from oyster (Crassostrea gigas), blue mussel (Mytilus edulis), short neck clam (Ruditapes philippinarum) and ark shell (Scapharca broughtonii) were 85.4-104.5%, 94.8-101.2%, 91.0-104.6%, and 95.7-109.6%, respectively. The working solutions of domoic acid standard were very stable for one month at $-18^{\circ}C$, $4^{\circ}C$, and room temperature. And domoic acid in the methanol extract from oyster was stable for a day at $4^{\circ}C$ and room temperature, and for a week at $-18^{\circ}C$. Therefore, this implies that quantitative analysis for domoic acid must consider the storage conditions of the standard solutions and the methanol extracts from shellfish. The standard solutions adjusted to pH 3-9 were also stable after heating at $121^{\circ}C$ for 30 min. The effect of light exposure on domoic acid was tested by exposing the methanol extracts to light. Domoic acid degraded slowly when the samples were kept in the dark (brown vial). However, following the light exposure the photodegradation became more rapid; no detectable domoic acid remained in $1.0{\mu}g/mL$ of methanol extract after 5 hours.
To determine the effect of body size on the clearance rate and ingestion rate of small intertidal bivalves, Glauconome chinensis, feeding experiments were conducted on individuals of 12 different size classes, from 4 to 16 mm in shell length. Relationships between morphological parameters were also determined. The clearance and ingestion rates of G. chinensis responded similarly to their body size, ranging from 1.3 to 28.2 mL/hr/ind. and from 24.0 to 458.5, ${\mu}gC/hr/ind$., respectively. Both rates increased significantly (p<0.001) as shell length increased from 4 to 9 mm, although neither rate changed significantly when shell length was in the range from 12 to 16 mm. The weight-specific clearance rate $(CR_w)$ and ingestion rate $(IR_w)$ decreased with increasing body size, with values from 1.0 to 3.1 L/hr/g and from 17.9 to 51.3 mgC/hr/g, respectively. The $CR_w$ of G. chinensis was intermediate compared to those of larger bivalve species. The clearance rate (CR) relative to flesh dry weight (FDW) of G. chinensis were fitted well to the power function: $CR=0.43\times(FDW)^{0.71}\;(r^2=0.89)$. The exponent of fitting equation (0.71) of G. chinensis was higher than those of Mytilus edulis (Walne, 1972), Crassostrea gigas (Walne, 1972), and Placopecten magellanicus (MacDonald and Thompson, 1986).

A vacuum-packed seasoned-dried product of sea mussel, Mytilus edulis, caught in the southern coasts of Korea, was prepared and stored at $35^{\circ}C$ for 70 days to test quality stability. Sea mussel, purchased from Jagalchi fish market in Busan, was steamed, shucked and eliminated byssus. The sea mussel meat was seasoned with the seasoning solution prepared with sugar, salt, sorbitol, glycerol, monosodium glutamate, 5'-ribonucleotide and smoke flavor (Smoke-EZ, Alpha Foods Co., Ltd.). After seasoning, the meat was dried at $52-58^{\circ}C$ for three hours, vacuum-packed in the laminated plastic film bag($14{\times}15cm$), and finally sterilized at $120^{\circ}C$ for 26 minutes in hot water circulating retort. The moisture, water activity, color value(L, a and b value), texture, TBA value and viable bacterial count of the products were determined during the period of storage at $35^{\circ}C$. From the results obtained, it became clear that the product could be preserved in a good quality for 70 days at $35^{\circ}C$, though a slight decrease in moisture content and development of a pale brown color was resulted. Judging from the sensory evaluation on flavor, the products containing smoke flavor were most desirable.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the various functionalities of the peels, pulps, and seeds of passion fruit. Proximate composition, mineral contents, phenolic acid contents, total polyphenols, total flavonoids, 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging activities, 2,2'-azinobis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) (ABTS) radical scavenging activities, reducing power, α-glucosidase, and α-amylase inhibitory activities were measured for each part of passion fruit. Proximate composition analysis of the passion fruit indicated that moisture content contained (4.78-8.20%), carbohydrate (68.33-73.23%), protein (8.78-13.63%), fat (1.19-11.60%), and ash (1.51-8.80%). K, Ca, Na and Fe were the predominant mineral in the peels. P and Mg were the predominant mineral in the pulps. All the antioxidant activities (total polyphenols, total flavonoids, DPPH radical scavenging, ABTS radical scavenging, and reducing power) showed high results in the seeds. α-Glucosidase and α-amylase inhibitory activities IC50 were in the peels (5.59 and 63.16 mg/mL), in the pulps (3.80 and 31.90 mg/mL), and in the seeds (0.06 and 1.02 mg/mL). These results indicated that the pulps, peels, and seeds of passion fruit have value as natural antioxidants with the high quality functional components.

The seasonal distribution pattern of the Bivalvia samples collected from 12 stations in Gamak Bay in April, July, September and November from 2001 to 2006. A total of 28 species (226.72$\pm$196.20 ind. m$^{-2}$) were identified. The COD has decreased from 3.30 mg L$^{-1}$ to 1.89 mg L$^{-1}$ level on average and especially, the COD of sediment has decreased from 21.51 mg g-dry$^{-1}$ to 16.99 mg g-dry$^{-1}$ level on average. Therefore, water quality level of Gamak Bay was improved from level 3 to 2. The dominant species over 1.0 percentages were composed of the total 13 species, and they occupied 96.75% of the total density of the Bivalvia. Major dominant species was Musculista senhousia 100.38 ind. m$^{-2}$ (22.16%), Moerella rutila 69.00 ind. m$^{-2}$ (15.23%), Theorafragilis 49.70 ind. m$^{-2}$ (10.97%), Mytilus edulis 42.18 ind. m$^{-2}$ (9.31 %), and Raphia undulata 40.99 ind. m$^{-2}$ (9.05%). This area could be divided into three groups by the cluster analysis based on the total species composition.

Most of carotenoprotein complexes have been extracted by using buffered solutions. However, in this study carotenoprotein from the muscle of Blue mussel(Mytilus edulis) was extracted by a detergent such as Triton X-100. It was purified and characterized by $20\%$ (w/v) $(NH_4)_2SO_4$, DEAE-cellulose ion exchange and Sephacryl S-300 gel filtration. The carotenoprotein(${\lambda}_{max}=462nm$) had an approximate M. W. of 372KDa(gel filtration). SDS-PAGE analysis of the carotenoprotein indicated the presence of four polypeptides of 60KDa($23.70\%$), 46.9KDa($9.14\%$), 26KDa($49.14\%$) and 13KDa($18.02\%$). Carotenoprotein denaturated by treatment with SDS to a final concentration of $0.2\%$ (w/v) caused a hypsochromic shift of ${\lambda}_{max}$ from 462nm to 456nm. The carotenoprotein contained lipids as structure units. The amino acid composition of the carotenoprotein contained large essential amino acid amounts of $62.8\%$, and the content of threonine($35.9\%$) was higher than other amino acids, but histidine, methionine and proline were not present. In the carotenoprotein, the major fatty acids were $C_{16:4},\;C_{16:0},\;C_{20:5}\;and\;C_{22:6}$. The percentages of polyunsaturated fatty acids($62.4\%$) were higher compared to other fatty acids(saturated fatty acids $19.6\%$, monounsaturated fatty acids $18.0\%$). Carotenoid was extracted from the carotenoprotein by acetone and it was separated into five different components by preparative TLC(benzene:petroleum ether:acetone=69:17:14). The major components of carotenoid were mytiloxanthin($74.79\%$) and 3,4,3'- trihydroxy-7',8'-didehydro-${\beta}$-carotene($18.26\%$), and they were at least presented as prosthetic groups of carotenoprotein.

A sanitary survey was conducted to evaluate the water quality and mussel (Mytilus edulis) conditions of two administrative shellfish growing waters: those designated as shellfish growing water for export, and adjacent waters on the east coast of Changseon Island, Namhae, Korea. In all, 1,656 seawater and 166 mussel samples were collected at 46 stations for seawater and five stations for the shellfish from January 2007 to December 2009. Both seawater and mussels were examined for total coliforms and fecal coliforms. The standard plate count and most probable number of Escherichia coli were also determined for the shellfish samples. The range of the geometric means and the estimated 90th percentiles of fecal coliform for seawater samples at each station were <1.8-4.1 MPN/100 mL and <1.8-22.3 MPN/100 mL, respectively. The sanitary conditions for both shellfish growing areas, the designated shellfish growing area and adjacent area in Changseon, met the 'Approved area' criteria of the United States National Shellfish Sanitation Program. The range of E. coli detected in mussels in these areas was <20-500 MPN/100 g; and only 3 of 166 samples exceeded 230 MPN/100 g, the European standard for the consumption of raw bivalves. Therefore, the mussel farms in the Changseon area are classified as 'Class A' according to criteria set in European Community regulations. However, the levels of E. coli in mussels in parts of the designated shellfish growing area and adjacent area exceeded the bacterial limits after rainfall exceeding 45 mm. Further studies are needed to fully define the conditions leading to a temporary closure to harvest after a rainfall event.
From 2014 to 2016, Fusarium wilt disease was found on fassionfruit in Iksan and Jeju, Korea. Symptoms included wilting of foliage, drying and withering of leaves, and stunting of the plants. The infected plants eventually died during growth. Colonies on potato dextrose agar were pinkish white, and felted with cottony and aerial mycelia with 35 mm after one week. Macroconidia were falcate to almost straight, thin-walled and usually 2-3 septate. Microconidia were usually formed on monophialides of the hyphae and were hyaline, smooth, oval to ellipsoidal, aseptate or medianly 1-septate, very occasionally 2-septate, slightly constricted at the septa, $3-12{\times}2.5-6{\mu}m$. On the basis of the morphological characteristics and phylogenetic analyses of two molecular markers, internal transcribed spacer rDNA and translation elongation factor $1{\alpha}$, the fungus was identified as Fusarium oxysporum. Pathogenicity of a representative isolate was proved by artificial inoculation, fulfilling Koch's postulates. To our knowledge, this is the first report on the occurrence of F. oxysporum on fassionfruit in Korea.

Hydroacoustic surveys were conducted in the East China Sea, in the summers of 1990-1991 to investigate the distribution and migration behavior of fish, such as the diel changes in the distributions of fish, the thermoselection behavior of fish, and the fish reactions to a surveying vessel. The hydroacoustic observations were taken with a scientific echo sounder operating at 50kHz and a microcomputer-based echo processor. Fish samples were collected by bottom trawling and temperature was measured with a DBT system. The patterns of fish distributions were compared with the vertical profiles of water temperature. The results obtained can be summarized as follows: 1. The time series of hydroacoustic observations on the downward migration at dawn in the central region of East China Sea showed that the migration rate was 0.24 m/min. In this region, most of the fish collected by bottom trawling during the surveys were squid (Photologio edulis f. budo) and horse mackeral (Trachurus japonicus). 2. The hydroacoustic observations, which together associated with temperature data, indicated that squid and horse mackeral concentrated nocturally in a narrow vertical band of thermocline, particularly in summer when the survey region was strongly stratified. This result suggest that the nocturnal vertical distribution of these species evidently is controlled by temperature. 3. When the survey vessel, that is running at a speed of 11 knots, has suddenly stopped, the fish which concentrated beneath the transducer showed a strong avoidance reaction in the form of rapid downward migration. After a few minutes, the descending reaction disappeared and the fish slowly began the upward migration toward their original swimming positions. Trawl data suggest that the fish, which showed the avoidance reaction, was Liparis tessellatus.
The followings are the results of study about morphological variation of mussel, Mytilus coruscus collected respectively from Sanyang-myeon Tongyeong-goon Gyeongnam on 13th January, Yeonwha-do Yokji-myeon Tongyeong-goon Gyeongnam on 15th May and down below the Yeong-do Bridge Busan on 20th August, 1964. The biggest mussel of the above three areas have been from Yeong-do Bridge, whose shell height is 164.1 mm, shell length 77.8mm, shell breadth 52.2mm, total weight 291,9g and shell length is as follows : from Yeong-do Bridge L=0.4954H + 1.9516, from Sanyang-myeon L=0.3718H + 14.145, from Yeonwha-do L=0.4074H + 9,6610 The relationship between shell height and shell breadth is as follows : from Yeong-do Bridge B=0.3426H + 0.2052, from Sanyang-myeon B=0.3084H + 3.6183, from Yeonwha-do B=0.3507H + 0.8028 In view of the above relationship, it is concluded that the slope value of mussel, nearer to the inshore from the off-sea, is similar to that of M. edulis, from which are can presume that M. coruscus could be changed in shell form according to its environment. Growth curve between total weight and shell height is as follows : from Yeong-do Bridge W=0. 00020469 $$H^{2.79745}$ from Sanyang-myeon W=0.00061512$H^{2.53708}$ from Yeonwha-do W=0.00016965$H^{2.83960}$
