  • The purpose of this paper is to develop a method of the sensitivity analysis that can be applied to a non-tree solution of the minimum cost flow problem. First, we introduce two types of sensitivity analysis. A sensitivity analysis of Type 1a is the well known method applicable to a tree solution. However this method can not be applied to a non-tree solution. So we propose a sensitivity analysis of Type 2 that keeps solutions of upper bounds at upper bounds, those of lower bounds at lower bounds, and those of intermediate values at intermediate values. For the cost coefficient we present a method that the sensitivity analysis of Type 2 is solved by finding the shortest path. Besides we also show that the results of Type 2 and Type 1 are the same in a spanning tree solution. For the right-hand side constant or the capacity, the sensitivity analysis of Type 2 is solved by a simple calculation using arcs with intermediate values.

  • This is a widespread requirement for low cost lightweight thermal imaging sensors for both military and civilian applications. Today, a large number of uncooled infrared detector developments are under progress due to the availability of silicon technology that enables realization of low cost IR sensor. System prices are continuing to drop, and swelling production volume will soon drive process substantially lower. The feasibility of micromechanical optical and infrared (IR) detection using microcantilevers is demonstrated. Microcantilevers provide a simple Structurefor developing single- and multi-element sensors for visible and infrared radiation that are smaller, more sensitive and lower in cost than quantum or thermal detectors. Microcantilevers coated with a heat absorbing layer undergo bending due to the differential stress originating from the bimetallic effect. This paper reports a micromachined silicon uncooled thermal imager intended for applications in automated process control. This paper presents the design, fabrication, and the behavior of cantilever for thermomechanical sensing.

  • This paper considers an integrated inventory-distribution system with a fleet of heterogeneous vehicles employed where a single warehouse distributes a single type of products to many spatially distributed retailers to satisfy their dynamic demands. The problem is to determine order planning at the warehouse, and also vehicle schedules and delivery quantities for the retailers with the objective of minimizing the sum of ordering cost at the warehouse, inventory holding cost at both the warehouse and retailers, and transportation cost. For the problem, we give a Mixed Integer Programming formulation and develop a Lagrangean heuristic procedure for computing lower and upper bounds on the optimal solution value. The Lagrangean dual problem of finding the best Lagrangrean lower bound is solved by subgradient optimization. Computational experiments on randomly generated test problems showed that the suggested algorithm gives relatively good solutions in a reasonable amount of computation time.

  • This paper presents a new data line sharing technique for TFT-LCD panels. This technique reduces the number of data driver IC's to half by having two adjacent pixels share the same data line. This in turn doubles the number of gate lines, which are integrated directly on the glass substrate of amorphous silicon for further cost reduction and more compactness. The proposed technique with new pixel array structure was applied to 15.4 inch WXGA TFT-LCD panels and has proven that the number of driver IC's were halved with nearly 41% circuit cost reduction and 5.3% reduction in power consumption without degrading the image quality.

  • Consider a supply chain in which a vendor supplies a product to a buyer. We assume that the buyer's and vendor's inventory cost structures are different, resulting in differences in inventory order/delivery cycle times. Here, if one party insists on its individually optimal order/delivery quantity, the other party will suffer from mismatches in cycle times. Under this scenario, coordination contracts that make use of either a Net Term/Two parts Term Trade Credit or a Quantity Discount are designed to align individually optimal order Quantities. We compare and analyze the perform ances of these contracts. The focus of the comparison is the ability of contracts to generate a lower cost for the supply chain. We show that a Trade Credit policy can be effectively used to coordinate a supply chain. In many cases it will result in a lower supply chain cost compared to that achieved by using a Quantitative Discount policy.

  • This study used the Data Envelopment Analysis, a mathematical linear programming method, to evaluate cost efficiency of hospitals in Korea. DEA method was applied to 244 hospitals: 31 bankrupt hospitals and 213 survived hospitals. Among the 213 sound hospitals, 11 hospitals showed efficiency score 100, but more than 40 hospitals recorded efficiency scores lower than 60. This result implies that more hospitals can be bankrupt in the restructuring process of the industry within 1-2 years. Among the 31 bankrupt hospitals, the highest technical efficiency score was 0.821 and 11 hospitals showed technical efficiency lower than 0.6. This implies that selective financial support based on cost efficiency by the government will be valuable to prevent bankruptcy of these hospitals. The logistic analysis showed statistically significant relationship between bankruptcy and efficiency of hospitals in Korea.

  • In this paper, we present a frequency reassignment problem (FRP) arising from the reconfiguration of radio networks such as adding new base stations (BSs) and changing the number of frequencies assigned to BSs. For this problem, we develop an integer programming (IP) model that minimizes the sum of frequency reassignment cost and the cost for unsatisfied frequency demands, while avoiding interference among frequencies. To obtain tight lower bounds, we develop some valid inequalities and devise an objective function relaxation scheme. Also, we develop a simple but efficient heuristic procedure to solve large size problems. Computational results show that the developed valid inequalities are effective for improving lower bounds. Also, the proposed tabu search heuristic finds tight upper bounds with average optimality gap of 2.3%.

  • The purpose of this paper is to develop a method of the sensitivity analysis that can be applicable to a degenerate tree solution of the minimum cost flow problem. First, we introduce two types of sensitivity analysis. A sensitivity analysis of Type 1 is the well known method applicable to a spanning tree solution. However, this method have some difficulties in case of being applied to a degenerate tree solution. So we propose a sensitivity analysis of Type 2 that keeps solutions of upper bounds remaining at upper bounds, those of lower bounds at lower bounds, and those of intermediate values at intermediate values. For the cost coefficient, we present a method that the sensitivity analysis of Type 2 is solved by using the method of a sensitivity analysis of Type 1. Besides we also show that the results of sensitivity analysis of Type 2 are union set of those of Type 1 sensitivity analysis. For the right-hand side constant or the capacity, we present a simple method for the sensitivity analysis of Type 2 which uses arcs with intermediate values.

  • This paper proposes a Bi-level Genetic Algorithm for the Fixed Charge Transportation Problem with Non-linear Unit Cost. The problem has the property of mixed integer program with non-linear objective function and linear constraints. The bi-level procedure consists of the upper-GA and the lower-GA. While the upper-GA optimize the connectivity between each supply and demand pair, the lower-GA optimize the amount of transportation between the pairs set to be connected by the upper-GA. In the upper-GA, the feasibility of the connectivity are verified, and if a connectivity is not feasible, it is modified so as to be feasible. In the lower-GA, a simple method is used to obtain a pivot feasible solution under the restriction of the connectivity determined by the upper-GA. The obtained pivot feasible solution is utilized to generate the initial generation of chromosomes. The computational experiment is performed on the selected problems with several non-linear objective functions. The performance of the proposed procedure is analyzed with the result of experiment.

  • Event Data Recorder(Car Black-Box) with WiFi dongle have been released, and the platform of the majority is the Linux platform. This is because the platform development is possible in little investment cost by reducing the source licensing costs by taking advantage of the open source. But utilizing Linux platform has the limitations of boot-up time and consuming processing power due to the limitation of battery capacity, to be cost-competitive to minimize the use of memory. In this paper, the real-time operating system(RTOS) is utilized to optimize these portions. MP4 encoder and Muxer are developed to be about ten seconds boot up and minimized memory. It has the advantages of operating at lower power consumption than the Linux utilizing WiFi dongle. Utilizing a WiFi dongle is to provide a progressive download feature on smart phones to lower product prices. But RTOS has the weakness in WiFi. Porting TCP /IP, Web and DHCP server and combination with the USB OTG Host interface by implementing the protocol stack are developed for WiFi. And also SPI NOR flash memory is utilized for faster boot time and cost reductions, low processing power to be consume. As the results, the developed proved the 10 seconds booting time, 24 frame rate/sec. and 10% lower power consumption.
