  • The MB-OFDM based UWB communication system is a personal area network specification aiming to provide 480Mbps peak data rate over 528 MHz spectrum. As the corresponding baseband modem operates at high clock rate, its complexity should be optimized for low power consumption. A set of modem design parameters is suggested including the AD bit width, the clipping level and the quantization level at the Viterbi decoder input as well as the trace-back depth of the Viterbi decoder. The data throughput is used to evaluate the performance of the receiver and a recommended set of design parameter values is presented to aid efficient modem implementation.

  • The accuracy of channel estimation significantly affects the performance of coherent OFDM receiver. It is desirable to employ a good channel estimator while requiring low implementation complexity. In this paper, we propose a channel estimator that employs a simple two-dimensional (2-D) moving average (MA) filter as the channel estimation filter. The optimum tap size of the 2-D MA FIR filter is analytically designed in the time and frequency domain in association with the channel condition and pilot signal to interference power ratio. The analytic results can be applied to the design of adaptive channel estimator. Finally, the performance of the proposed channel estimator is verified by computer simulation.

  • We consider a design of a combined quantizer and estimator for distributed systems wherein each node quantizes its measurement without any communication among the nodes and transmits it to a fusion node for estimation. Noting that the quantization partitions minimizing the estimation error are not independently encoded at nodes, we focus on the parameter regions created by the partitions and propose a cluster-based quantization algorithm that iteratively finds a given number of clusters of parameter regions with each region being closer to the corresponding codeword than to the other codewords. We introduce a new metric to determine the distance between codewords and parameter regions. We also discuss that the fusion node can perform an efficient estimation by finding the intersection of the clusters sent from the nodes. We demonstrate through experiments that the proposed design achieves a significant performance gain with a low complexity as compared to the previous designs.

  • This research proposes how to enhance low customer satisfaction with health screening services caused by procedural complexity and limits of health screening. The purpose of this study is to identify sub-components of the service quality provided by general health examination centers. This is a qualitative analysis of in-depth interviews of providers and consumers of medical services. The data were primarily analyzed by affinity diagram, and the data were sorted and analyzed according to the criteria suggested by Donabedian's four components. Four types of quality factors and the health screening service quality components of 39 subordinate items were assessed. Components related to the use of IT facilities comprise a significant amount of the physical factors, and there are high demands for IT facilities among customers.

  • This paper studies a dual-hop multiple-access relay network where two independent source nodes transmit information to a common destination node with the aid of multiple single-antenna amplify-and-forward relays. Each relay node is subject to an individual power constraint. We focus on the design of distributed beamforming schemes for the relays to support the transmission rate requirements of the two sources. To this end, we first characterize the achievable rate region for this network via solving a sequence of corner point optimization problems proposed in this paper. We also develop several low-complexity suboptimal schemes in closed form. Two inner bounds of the achievable rate region are theoretically shown to be approximately optimal in two special scenarios. Finally, numerical results demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed approaches.

  • It is studied to design a low pass filter of the SRC(sample rate converter), which is used to change the sampling rate of digital signals such as in digital modulation and demodulation systems. The larger the conversion ratio of the sample rate becomes, the more signal processing is needed for the filter, which corresponds to the more complexity in circuit realization. Thus it is important to reduce the amount of signal processing for the case of high conversion ratio. In this paper it is presented a design method of a two-stage cascaded FIR filter, which proved to have reduced amount of signal processing in comparison with a conventional single-stage one. The reduction effect of signal processing turned out to be more noticeable for larger value of conversion ratio, for instance, giving down to 72% in complexity for the conversion ratio of 32. It has been shown that the reduction effect is dependent to specific combination of conversion ratios of the cascaded filters. So an exhaustive search has been performed in order to obtain the optimal combination for various values of the total conversion ratio. In this paper every filter is considered to be implemented in the form of a polyphase FIR filter, and its coefficients are determined by use of the Parks-McCllelan algorithm.

  • The biggest problem for the oblivious transfer protocol is the rapid increasement of network traffic and computational complexity if the protocol is used as a sub-protocol compare to the case that when it is used as a standalone protocol. To fix such problems, in this paper, we propose a verifiable Non-interactive OT protocol that reduces the network traffic and computational complexity by preprocessing the necessary computations when the network traffic is low. The proposed protocol uses third root mechanism instead of square root mechanism that is used for the Fiat-Shamir signature mechanism and also uses 1-out-of-2 oblivious transfer based on signature mechanism. We also analyze the proposed protocol by comparing to the Lein Harn, YNIOT protocols.

  • To achieve accurate localization information, complex algorithms that have high computational complexity are usually implemented. In addition, many of these algorithms have been developed to overcome several limitations, e.g., obstruction interference in multi-path and non-line-of-sight (NLOS) environments. However, localization systems those have complex design experience latency when operating multiple mobile nodes occupying various channels and try to compensate for inaccurate distance values. To operate multiple mobile nodes concurrently, we propose a localization system with both low complexity and high accuracy and that is based on a chirp spread spectrum (CSS) radio. The proposed localization system is composed of accurate ranging values that are analyzed by simple linear regression that utilizes a Big-$O(n^2)$ of only a few data points and an algorithm with a self-calibration feature. The performance of the proposed localization system is verified by means of actual experiments. The results show a mean error of about 1 m and multiple mobile node operation in a $100{\times}35m^2$ environment under NLOS condition.

  • Recently, demands on light weight, high strength, and low noise or vibration have led to the design of complicated structural systems. Although finite elements [1], mode synthesis [2], and statistical energy analysis [3] can be used to compute the dynamic response of such systems, the structural complexity has made the interpretation of the results of such analysis difficult. Many researchers in dynamic analysis have sought to further develop existing theories or develop alternate methods to obtain greater insight in the behavior of large massive primary systems (P systems) with connected light secondary systems (S systems). Some recent research includes work by Sackman and Kelly [4], Sackman et al.[5], Der Kiureghian et al.[6], and Igusa and Der Kiureghian [7-9] who have combined mode synthesis concepts, matrix algebraic theory, and perturbation methods for characterizing weakly-coupled structural systems. A major limitation of these works are that they are limited to lumped mass S systems. In this paper, the general ideas in the Refs.[4-9] are used to study continuous S systems and the method to reduce the complexity, studied in the works by Igusa, Achenbach, and Min [10,11], is developed into the frequency window method.

  • Arithmetic operations over finite fields are widely used in coding theory and cryptography. In both of these applications, there is a need to design low complexity finite field arithmetic units. The complexity of such a unit largely depends on how the field elements are represented. Among them, representation of elements using a optimal normal basis is quite attractive. Using an algorithm minimizing the number of 1's of multiplication matrix, in this paper, we propose a multiplier which is time and area efficient over finite fields with optimal normal basis.
