Wireless power transfer technologies typically include inductive coupling, magnetic resonance, and capacitive coupling methods. Among these methods, capacitive coupling wireless power transfer (CCWPT) has been studied to overcome the drawbacks of other approaches. CCWPT has many advantages such as having a simple structure, low standing power loss, reduced electromagnetic interference (EMI) and the ability to transfer power through metal barriers. In this paper, the CCWPT system with 6.78MHz class D inverter is proposed and analyzed. The proposed system consists of a 6.78MHz class D inverter with a LC low pass filter, capacitor between a transmitter and a receiver, and impedance transformers. The system is verified with a prototype for charging mobile devices.

Green technologies such as renewable energy resources, Electric Vehicles and Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (EVs/PHEVs), electric locomotives, etc. are continually increasing at the existing power network especially distribution levels, which are Medium Voltage (MV) and Low Voltage (LV). It can be noted that the increasing level of green technologies is driven by the reduction emission policies of carbon dioxide ($CO_2$). The green technologies can affect the quality of power, and hence its impacts of are analysed. In practical, the environment such as wind, solar irradiation, temperature etc. are uncontrollable, and therefore the output power of renewable energy in that area can be varied. Moreover, the technology of the EVs/PHEVs is still developed in order to improve the performance of supply and driving systems. This means that these developed can cause harmonic distortion as the control system is mostly used power electronics. Therefore, this paper aims to analyse the voltage variation and harmonic distortion in distribution power network in urban area in Europe due to the combination between wind turbine, hydro turbine, photovoltaic (PV) system and EVs/PHEVs. More realistic penetration levels of SSDGs and EVs/PHEVs as forecasted for 2020 is used to analyse. The dynamic load demands are also taken into account. In order to ensure the accurate of simulation results, the practical parameters of distribution system are used and the international standards such as Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) standards are also complied. The suggestion solutions are also presented. The MATLAB/Simulink software is chosen as it can support complicate modelling and analysis.

The main feature of these total technologies is that we can constitute the optimum treatment scheme fitting to the property of wastes, amount of wastes and energy requirement. For high moisture content wastes or biomass resources, high pressure steam process (MMCS) for crush, dry and deodorize wastes to produce high quality fertilizer of fuel is most appropriate. For dry or semi-dry solid wastes, the STAR-MEET system can be applied to produce low-BTU gases for power generation using duel fueled diesel engines of Stirling engines, and the REPRES and HyPR-MEET systems can be applied to produce hydrogen rich medium-BTU gas. For waste plastics and oils, liquefaction technology is best fit to produce light oil or kerosene equivalent fuel oils. These total technologies are completely different from the existent waste treatment technologies based on land-filling or incineration, and are expected to disseminate all over the world in the near future.

Offshore wind farms extend a distance from an onshore grid to increase their generating power, but long distance and high power transmissions raise a lot of cost challenges. LFAC (Low Frequency AC) transmission is a new promising technology in high power and low cost power transmission fields against HVDC (High Voltage DC) and HVAC (High Voltage AC) transmissions. This paper presents an economic comparison of LFAC and HVDC transmissions for large offshore wind farms. The economic assessments of two different transmission technologies are analyzed and compared in terms of wind farm capacities (600 MW and 900 MW) and distances (from 25 km to 100 km) from the onshore grid. Based on this comparison, the economic feasibility of LFAC is verified as a most economical solution for remote offshore wind farms.
This paper demonstrates the dynamic behaviors of paralleled high power IGBTs using trench and fieldstop technologies. Four IGBTs are paralleled and standard deviation is adopted to represent the imbalance. Experiments are conducted under three different operation conditions and at different temperatures ranging from $-25^{\circ}C$ to $125^{\circ}C$. The experimental results show that operation at very low and very high temperatures usually aggravates the switching behaviors. There is a trade-off between the balance and the losses at low temperatures. These results can help in the design of heat sinks in paralleling applications confronting very low temperatures.
${\bullet}$ Silicon Carbide (SiC) had excellent material properties as the base material for next generation of power semiconductor. In developing SiC MOSFET, gate oxide reliability issues had to be first overcome before commercial application. Besides, a high and stable gate-source voltage threshold $V_{GS(th)}$ is also an important parameter for operation robustness. SiC MOSFET with such characteristics can directly use existing high-speed IGBT gate driver IC's. ${\bullet}$ The linear voltage drop characteristics of SiC MOSFET will bring lower conduction loss averaged over full AC cycle compared to similarly rate IGBT. Lower switching loss enable higher switching frequency. Using package with auxiliary source terminal for gate driving will further reduce switching losses. Dynamic characteristics can fully controlled by simple gate resistors. ${\bullet}$ The low switching losses characteristics of SiC MOSFET can substantially reduce power losses in high switching frequency operation. Significant power loss reduction is also possible even at low switching frequency and low switching speed. in T-type 3-level topology, SiC MOSFET solution enable three times higher switching freqeuncy at same efficiency.

This paper proposes a novel low-power $32bit\times32bit$ multiplier for deep submicron technologies beyond 130nm. As technology becomes small, static power due to leakage current significantly increases, and it becomes comparable to dynamic power. Recently, shutdown method based on MTCMOS is widely used to reduce both dynamic and static power. However, it suffers from severe power line noise when restoring whole large-size functional block. Therefore, the proposed multiplier mitigates this noise by shutting down and waking up sequentially along with pipeline stage. Fabricated chip measurement results in $0.35{\mu}m$ technology and gate-transition-level simulation results in 130nm and 90nm technologies show that it consumes $66{\mu}W,\;13{\mu}W,\;and\;6{\mu}W$ in idle mode, respectively, and it reduces power consumption to $0.04%\sim0.08%$ of active mode. As technology becomes small, power reduction efficiency degrades in the conventional clock gating scheme, but the proposed multiplier does not.

Wireless power transmission (WPT) is useful technology in near future. There are some kinds of the WPT technologies, WPT via radio waves, resonance coupling, and inductive. Especially the WPT via radio waves is used for multi-purposes from short range to long range application. However, unfortunately it is misunderstood that it is low efficiency and low power. In this paper, I show the theory of beam efficiency between transmitting antennas and receiving antennas and also show some high efficient applications of the WPT via radio waves. Especially, I pick up a wireless power charging system of an electric vehicle and show the experimental results. I show difference between the theory of beam efficiency and the experimental results of short range WPT. I indicate that reasons of poor beam efficiency in the experiment are (1) change of impedance caused by mutual coupling between transmitting antennas and receiving antennas, (2) oblique direction of microwave power to receiving antennas caused by short distance.
In Korea, not much interest has been paid yet to mercury among flue gas HAPs (Hazardous Air Pollutants), but mercury is expected to become a major problem in the near future. The present paper investigates the current state of mercury emission and control technologies. Interest of the U.S. and European countries in the area of air pollution has been recently directed to mercury emitted from power plants. There are largely two mercury removal technologies applied to power plants. One is removing mercury by oxidizing elemental mercury in WFGD (Wet Flue Gas Desulfurization), and the other is spraying an adsorbent such as activated carbon or other novel sorbents (low-cost sorbents). Developed country is requiring that all power plants be equipped with mercury control facilities by 2007. This paper aims at contributing to the establishment of future strategies in response to the problem.
