  • The transmission networks do not consist of perfect conductors and a percentage of the power generated is therefore lost before it reaches the loads. Since this network loss contributes to the cost of suppling power to consumers, it must be considered that the most efficient dispatch and location of generators and loads are to be achieved. In this paper, marginal loss factors are calculated for 12 load levels that represent the impact of marginal network losses on nodal prices at the transmission network connection points at which generators are located. Based on comparison analysis of marginal loss factors on 12 load levels, we found the MLF characteristics in KOREA.

  • Soil loss by the rains has effect on natural environment. But It is difficult to find out the data that is surveyed in watershed. In this study, we combine RUSLE and GSIS, develop a program to automatically extract geo-factors to predict soil loss, and perform recurrent analysis against actual sediment load to bring out the relativity between soil loss and sediment load. Each factors need to RUSLE conducted by grid analysis. As the process to extract terrain factor became programming, the efficiency is rised.

  • In motor design, an important factor is the content of silicon in coss material, which can effect the saturation of magnetic circuit and coss loss. While the content of silicon is high, the core loss will be reduced. At the same time, in order to assure the effective flux, the magnetizing current must be increased and then the copper loss becomes higher. Therefore the material with high content of silicon, which is used in the motor, can not always give the high efficiency. In this paper flux linkage of two different material s10 and s60 is compared according to the operating region and then exciting current to obtain same flux is estimated. By comparing core loss and copper loss between two material with the estimated current and flux linkage, this paper presents a criterion in determining the material for higher efficiency

  • AC loss is an important factor in the development of superconducting tapes and superconducting power applications. In this paper we measured and compared characteristics of BSCCO tape and YBCO Coated Conductor(YBCO CC). BSCCO tape was fabricated by PIT method. We measured critical current density and transport current loss of it. Also, YBCO CC tape consist of substrate. buffer, YBCO and metal layers. We measured critical current density on variations of external magnetic field and transport current loss of these cases. The results of measurement show that normalized critical current of YBCO CC is smaller then that of BSCCO tape in the external magnet field. According to the results. measured loss and calculated of the YBCO CC show the same tendency.

  • Fiber to the Home (FTTH) technology is among the most advanced broadband services, delivering voice, data, and television through a single optical fiber directly to customer premises, ensuring high-speed and reliable connectivity. The study conducted on Nepal Telecom's FTTH networks involved direct measurements from the optical line terminal to the fiber access point and optical network unit, providing detailed insights into network performance. Using the OptiSystem software, the analysis revealed a link loss of 24.99 dB, a Q-factor of 12.98, and a minimum Bit Error Rate (BER) of 7.31E-39, all within standard limits, which underscores the robustness of the network. The study also identified that the highest contributors to signal loss were connector loss, fiber attenuation, and fusion splices, emphasizing the importance of minimizing these factors to maintain optimal network performance. Overall, these findings highlight the critical aspects of FTTH network design and maintenance, ensuring that service providers can deliver high-quality broadband services to customers.

  • Abstract Infiltration of rainfall that may lead to reduce resistance force due to reduction of matric suction and to increase driving force due to increase of self weight makes the slope fail. There are many specifications to make slope stable based on factor of safety. Although result of slope stability analysis satisfy the specifications, slope failures triggered by rainfall are frequently occurred in reality because slope stability analysis cannot consider uncertainty of each soil properties. This is why conventional analysis has limitation and development of alternative method is needed. So it is suggested to adopt the reliability analysis rather than design based on factor of safety into designing safer structure. Through the evaluation of handicaps for the factor of safety based design, calculation of soil properties by site investigation, and reliability analysis considering distribution of each soil properties, distribution of failure probability in railway slope is obtained. Then, Risk assessment of slopes in Korean railway is executed from the results. Damage loss and incoming loss are considered as the loss. Using these results, it is possible to make proper countermeasure or efficient maintenance.

  • Marine current energy is one of the most interesting renewable and clean energy resources that have been less exploited. Especially, Korea has worldwide outstanding tidal current energy resources and it is highly required to develop tidal in-stream energy conversion system in coastal area. The objective of study is to investigate harnessing techniques of tidal current energy and to design the a 100 kW horizontal axis tidal turbine using blade element momentum theory with Prandtl's tip loss factor for optimal design procedures. In addition, Influence of Prandtl's tip loss factor at local blade positions as a function of tip speed ratio was studied, and the analysed results showed that power coefficient of designed rotor blade using NACA 63812 was 0.49 at rated tip speed ratio.

  • The cavity resonator is one of the widely used components in the microwave applications. The unloaded Q, the resonant frequency, and the coupling factor are basic parameters of a cavity. A simple unloaded Q factor measurement procedure of a cavity is proposed in a lossy coupling. The equivalent circuit of a cavity with coupling loss at near the resonant frequency is presented. The coupling loss resistance was found by the measurement of a cavity impedance. The cavity impedance compensated coupling loss was redrawn on the Smith Chart. The loaded Q and coupling factor were obtained based on the compensated impedance locus and then the unloaded Q factor was calculated. To verify the proposed procedure, the cavity with lossless coupling was measured. The two measurement results in the lossy and lossless coupling agree well. The results confirm the proposed procedure is valid.

  • Voltage source inverters (VSIs) are widely used to drive induction motors in industry applications. The quality of output waveforms depends on the switching sequences used in pulse width modulation (PWM). In this work, all existing optimal space vector pulse width modulation (SVPWM) switching strategies are studied. The performance of existing SVPWM switching strategies is optimized to realize a tradeoff between quality of output waveforms and switching losses. This study generalizes the existing optimal switching sequences for total harmonic distortions (THDs) and switching losses for different modulation indexes and reference angles with a parameter called quality factor. This factor provides a common platform in which the THDs and switching losses of different SVPWM techniques can be compared. The optimal spatial distribution of each sequence is derived on the basis of the quality factor to minimize harmonic current distortions and switching losses in a sector; the result is the minimum ripple loss SVPWM (MRSLPWM). By employing the sequences from optimized switching maps, the proposed method can simultaneously reduce THDs and switching losses. Two hybrid SVPWM techniques are proposed to reduce line current distortions and switching losses in motor drives. The proposed hybrid SVPWM strategies are MRSLPWM 30 and MRSLPWM 90. With a low-cost PIC microcontroller (PIC18F452), the proposed hybrid SVPWM techniques and the quality of output waveforms are experimentally validated on a 2 kVA VSI based on a three-phase two-level insulated gate bipolar transistor.

  • The mammalian sirtuin family (SIRT1-SIRT7) has shown diverse biological roles in the regulation and maintenance of genome stability under genotoxic stress. SIRT7, one of the least studied sirtuin, has been demonstrated to be a key factor for DNA damage response (DDR). However, conflicting results have proposed that Sirt7 is an oncogenic factor to promote transformation in cancer cells. To address this inconsistency, we investigated properties of SIRT7 in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) regulation under DNA damage and found that loss of hepatic Sirt7 accelerated HCC progression. Specifically, the number, size, and volume of hepatic tumor colonies in diethylnitrosamine (DEN) injected Sirt7-deficient liver were markedly enhanced. Further, levels of HCC progression markers and pro-inflammatory cytokines were significantly elevated in the absence of hepatic Sirt7, unlike those in the control. In chromatin, SIRT7 was stabilized and colocalized to damage site by inhibiting the induction of γH2AX under DNA damage. Together, our findings suggest that SIRT7 is a crucial factor for DNA damage repair and that hepatic loss-of-Sirt7 can promote genomic instability and accelerate HCC development, unlike early studies describing that Sirt7 is an oncogenic factor.
