  • The Precision Aerial Delivery System is an instrument designed to improve the poor landing accuracy of aerial delivery system with conventional circular parachutes, and is equipped with an Airborne Guidance Unit to safely transport supplies to the desired destination. Currently, the landing accuracy of the PADS product is reported as CEP50 100m and also differs significantly, depending on the actual topography and weather environment. In this study, HILS was constructed based on the 6DOF nonlinear modeling of PADS to analyze the maneuver characteristics of Ram Air Parachute under wind environments. By using the new algorithm a precision soft landing algorithm including Energy Management and Final Approach is designed. HILS results show that it is possible to achieve a precise soft landing within CEP50 40m, and it can be exploited to develop an actual PADS drop test.

  • KEPCO's plan is undergoing a trial operation to replace the open-loop section with ring main units configuration where underground distribution lines are installed, by linking the multi-way circuit breakers auto (MCA) on the power side of each pad-mounted transformer. However, ring main units application mentioned above may cause the ripple effects, when implementing the configuration without a study of protection coordination. Because ring main units with classical pre-set protection devices contribution in fault condition didn't consider yet. For the reliable ring main units operation, it is necessary to resolve several protection issues such as the protection coordination with substation side, prevention of the transformer inrush current. These issues can radically deteriorate the distribution system reliability Hence, it is essential to design proper protection coordination to reduce these types of problems. This paper presents a scheme of ring main units' configuration and MCA's settings of time-current curves to preserve the performance of protection coordination among the switchgears considering constraints, e.g. prevention of the ripple effects (on the branch section when a transformer failure occurs and the mainline when a branch line failure occurs). It was confirmed that the propagation of the failure for each interrupter segment could be minimized by applying the proposed TCC and the interrupter settings for the MCAs (branch, transformer). Further, it was verified that the undetected area of the distribution automation system (DAS) could be supplemented by having the MCA configurated ring main units operate first, instead of the internal protection equipment in the transformer such as the fuse, STP when a transformer failure occurs.

  • In this paper, the applicability of cement grout bas been studied as an alternative to bentontite grout to backfill ground heat exchangers. To provide an optimal mixture design, the groutabilty and thermal conductivity of cement grouts with various mixture ratios were experimentally evaluated and compared. The unconfined compression strength of cement grout specimen was measured, which was exposed to cyclic temperature variation ranging from $50^{\circ}C$ to $-5^{\circ}C$. In addition, the integrity of the interface between circulating HDPE pipes and cement grout was evaluated by performing equivalent hydraulic conductivity tests, on the specimen. in which a pipe locates at the center of the specimen.

  • This paper introduces a new locking technique applicable to high-performance digital Phase-Locked Loops (DPLL). The study employs additional thermometer codes to reduce quantization errors in LC-based Digital Controlled Oscillators (DCO). Despite not implementing the entire DCO codes in thermometer mode, this method effectively reduces quantization errors through enhanced linearity. In the initial locking phase, binary codes are used, and upon completion of locking, the system transitions to thermometer codes, achieving high frequency linearity and reduced jitter characteristics. This approach significantly reduces the number of switches required and minimizes the oscillator's area, especially in applications requiring low DCO gain (Kdco), compared to the traditional method that uses only thermometer codes. Furthermore, the jitter performance is maintained at a level equivalent to that of the thermometer-only approach. The efficacy of this technique has been validated through modeling and design at the RTL level using SystemVerilog and Verilog HDL.

  • SMART100 has a containment pressure and radioactivity suppression system (CPRSS) for passive containment cooling system (PCCS). This prevents overheating and over-pressurization of a containment through direct contact condensation in an in-containment refueling water storage tank (IRWST) and wall condensation in a CPRSS heat exchanger (CHX) in an emergency cool-down tank (ECT). The Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute (KAERI) constructed scaled-down test facilities, SISTA1 and SISTA2, for the thermal-hydraulic validation of the SMART100 CPRSS. Three separate effect tests were performed using SISTA1 to confirm the heat removal characteristics of SMART100 CPRSS. When the low mass flux steam with or without non-condensable gas is released into an IRWST, the conditions for mitigation of the chugging phenomenon were identified, and the physical variables were quantified by the 3D reconstruction method. The local behavior of the non-condensable gas was measured after condensation inside heat exchanger using a traverse system. Stratification of non-condensable gas occurred in large tank of the natural circulation loop. SISTA2 was used to simulate a small break loss-of-coolant accident (SBLCOA) transient. Since the test apparatus was a metal tank, compensations of initial heat transfer to the material and effect of heat loss during long-term operation were important for simulating cooling performance of SMART100 CPRSS. The pressure of SMART100 CPRSS was maintained below the design limit for 3 days even under sufficiently conservative conditions of an SBLOCA transient.

  • Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute (KAERI) has operated an integral effect test facility, the Advanced Thermal-Hydraulic Test Loop for Accident Simulation (ATLAS), with reference to the APR1400 (Advanced Power Reactor 1400) for tests for transient and design basis accidents simulation. A test for a loss of coolant accident (LOCA) at the top of the reactor pressure vessel (RPV) had been conducted at ATLAS to address the impact of the loss of safety injections (LSI) and to evaluate accident management (AM) actions during the postulated accident. The experimental data has been utilized to validate system analysis codes within a framework of the domestic standard problem program organized by KAERI in collaboration with Korea Institute of Nuclear Safety. In this study, the test has been analyzed by using thermal-hydraulic system analysis codes, MARS-KS 1.5 and TRACE 5.0 Patch 6, and a comparative analysis with experimental and calculation results has been performed. The main objective of this study is the investigation of the thermal-hydraulic phenomena during a small break LOCA at the RPV upper head with the LSI as well as the predictability of the system analysis codes after the AM actions during the test. The results from both codes reveal that overall physical behaviors during the accident are predicted by the codes, appropriately, including the excursion of the peak cladding temperature because of the LSI. It is also confirmed that the core integrity is maintained with the proposed AM action. Considering the break location, a sensitivity analysis for the nodalization of the upper head has been conducted. The sensitivity analysis indicates that the nodalization gave a significant impact on the analysis result. The result emphasizes the importance of the nodalization which should be performed with a consideration of the physical phenomena occurs during the transient.

  • In this paper, Antenna, LNA, Mixer, VCO, and Modulation/Demodulation in Baseband processor which are the RF main components in Wireless LAN system for ultra high-speed communications network are studied. Antenna bandwidth and selective fading due to multipath can be major obstacles in high speed digital communications. To solve this problem, wide band MSA which has loop-structure magnetic antenna characteristics is designed. Distributed mixer using dual-gate GaAs MESFET can achieve over 10dB LO/RF isolation without hybrid, and minimize circuit size. As linear mixing signal is produced, distortions can be decreased at baseband signals. Conversion gain is achieved by mixing and amplification simultaneously. Mixer is designed to have wide band characteristics using distributed amplifier. In VCO design, Oscillator design method by large signal analysis is used to produce stable signal. Modulation/Demodulation system in baseband processor, DS/SS technique which is robust against noise and interference is used to eliminate the effect of multipath propagation. DQPSK modulation technique with M-sequences for wideband PN spreading signals is adopted because of BER characteristic and high speed digital signal transmission.

  • In this paper, we show that the instantaneous phase current of the bifiler-wound hybrid stepping motor is dependent of lead angle and that the information of motor position is obtained from the instantaneous phase current at ${\pi}/2$ by the theoretical formular and its computer simulation results. From the facts, we design the microcontroller-based motor position sensorless controller of optimal lead angle, which generates the excitation pulses for the closed-loop drives. The controller is consist of microcontroller which has the function of A/D converter, programmable input/output timer, and the transfer table which has the values of optimal lead angle depending on motor velocity, and ROM which has the transfer table of the values of lead angle depending on velocity of motor and the values of instantaneous phase current at ${\pi}/2$. From the design of microcontroller-based controller, we minimize the external interface circuit and obtain flexibility by changing the contents of ROM transfer tables and the control software. We confirm that the designed controller drives the bifilar-wound hybrid stepping motor is the mode of optimal lead angle by comparing the instananeous phase current experimental results and computer simulation results.

  • In this paper, the piezoelectric-hydraulic pump with a piezostack actuator as a driving source has been designed, fabricated, and evaluated for its application to UAV's brake system. The performance requirements of the piezoelectric-hydraulic pump were decided based on the requirements analysis of the target aircraft brake system. The geometric design of the piezoelectric-hydraulic pump to meet the performance requirements of the pump was conducted, and all components of the pump including the spring sheet type check valves were machined with close tolerance. By constructing a test apparatus for the performance check of the piezoelectric-hydraulic pump, the performance characteristics of the pump, such as the outlet flow rate for load-free condition and the outlet oil pressure for closed loop condition, have been evaluated. It has been found by the performance test result that the developed piezoelectric-hydraulic pump satisfies the design requirements effectively.

  • Recently, for a smart city, there is a demand for a technology for acquiring traffic information using an intelligent road infrastructure and managing it. In the meantime, various technologies such as loop detectors, ultrasonic detectors, and image detectors have been used to analyze road traffic information but these have difficulty in collecting various informations, such as traffic density and length of a queue required for building a traffic information DB for moving vehicles. Therefore, in this paper, assuming a smart city built on the basis of a camera infrastructure such as intelligent CCTV on the road, a solution for calculating the traffic DB of moving vehicles using Vision Tracking of road CCTV cameras is presented. Simulation and verification of basic performance were conducted and solution can be usefully utilized in related fields as a new intelligent traffic DB calculation solution that reflects the environment of road-mounted CCTV cameras and moving vehicles in a variable smart city road environment. It is expected to be there.
