The Effect of Management Capability of Small and Medium Distribution Logistics Centers on Competitiveness Reinforcement: AHP Analysis

  • Since the mid-1990s, small and medium distribution and retail businesses have been experiencing difficulties due to the active entry of domestic and foreign distribution companies into the distribution industry. Accordingly, in 2003, the government established a small and medium distribution logistics center to secure self-sustainability and strengthen the competitiveness of small and medium distribution and retail businesses. However, in the rapidly changing distribution environment, small and medium distribution logistics centers were becoming increasingly difficult. To strengthen the management capabilities of small and medium distribution logistics centers, 4 primary factors (management operational ability, employee professional competency enhancement, product delivery, customer CS management) and 16 secondary factors were established based on literature research and FGI. We intend to derive the final weight and priority of these factors using AHP, and establish strategies to strengthen the competitiveness of small and medium distribution logistics centers.

Active IP-RFID System for Maritime Logistics (실시간 해운물류를 위한 능동형 IP-RFID 시스템)

  • In maritime logistics, the technology for transmitting status information has been greatly developed, but it has not been available in general logistics environment or it is impossible to support two-way communication as it simply receives and transfers a container's information. In particular, to support two-way communication in all sections of the global maritime logistics, the address value, which can identify the tag, should be managed. In this context, to improve the 433 MHz-based RFID, the project called "DASH 7" has been conducted in recent years. However, it has stopped proceeding because of its slow progress, including the standardization and development of references. In this paper, we introduced an active IP-RFID system configuration for real-time communication in global maritime logistics using a two-way communication-which is characteristic of an IP-applying virtual address values in the RFID tag, and proposing its process and function. When you apply the IP-RFID system proposed in this paper, not only real-time status tracking in the maritime logistics area is possible, but it is also applicable for controlling the tag.

  • It It is not easy to reduce the operation costs at a time when it is hard to expect increase sales due to growing economic uncertainties. For logistics centers, which need to keeps their competitive advantage in the market by raising service levels at low cost, it is essential to drastically improve service levels at low cost. This study suggests that KPI (Key Performance Indicator) analysis should determine whether efficient logistics operation is being performed for the entire process of the logistics operation system. And also we suggests that each item should be set up, measured, and improved so that customer satisfaction can be increased based on performance indicators.

  • The used car export of Korea has rapid growth with the competitive price through economic situation of IMF, but the export volume would be decreased due to the import restriction of used car by Iraqi, Middle Asian countries since 2004. This research would be suggested the proposal of "the used car's innovative export logistics system" to solve the increased supplying of used car and decreasing of used car's export. This proposal of "the used car's innovative export logistics system" present the advanced used car's export logistics center for activation of export and construction of integrated export logistics system to be promoted the export process. As a result of analysis of the economic effectiveness through the activation of used car's export at the port of Incheon, it is forecasted that the concerned companies have the increasing of net profit 27,000 million Korean won; the value added effectiveness 340,000 million Korean won, acceleration of employment 2,200 persons. The policy should be consistent in order to process of "the used car's innovative export logistics system". For promotion of used car's export, not only near vision for solve the current matter, but also the strategic policy and master plan for promotion of used car's export to the international competitiveness strength continuously. The object of this research is directed to "the used car's export integrated logistics system" and "policy" for creation of export logistics complex".

  • Logistics company strives for satisfaction of customer service. the internal clients of corporation, the engineers of driver enhance their thinking about customer orientation by education of important about customer services. the study reached the conclusion that result which analyzed the important fact of enhancing customer orientation strategy by AHP show an ability of dealing with customer improves customer orientation strategy. because the desire of customer is various, it is difficult to have standard of dealing thought, the program of improvement of dealing ability should be developed and trained to improve customer orientation.

  • 워크플로우 관리시스템(Workflow Management System)은 업무 프로세스를 실행하기 위해 사전에 정의된 룰에 따라 태스크들을 수행하는 시스템으로, 프로세스 정의를 interpreter하고 워크플로우 참석자들과 상호작용하며 해당 응용 프로그램을 invoke할 수 있는 시스템이다. 정의된 업무를 수행하기 위해서는 사전에 프로세스 정의 및 모델링이 필요하다. 프로세스 모델링이란 조직의 목표 달성을 위해 다양한 비즈니스 규칙에 의해 정의된 상호연관이 있는 작업들의 수행과정을 정의하는 것으로 본 논문에서는 업무 프로세스를 모델링하고 관리하기 위한 비즈니스 프로세스 모델링 도구를 설계하고 구현하였다.

  • This study applies the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) to evaluate service quality of Third-Party Logistics (3PL) service providers. For this, we first conceptualize five dimensions of 3PL service quality (i.e. tangibles, reliability, responsiveness, assurance and empathy). We then apply the AHP method to determining the relative weights of five service quality dimensions and eventually selecting the best 3PL service provider. To implement this idea in practice, we conduct an empirical study on four companies providing 3PL services in Korea.

  • The Korean government has been working to reduce national logistics costs since the early 1990s. One of the major plans instituted by the government was to build five complex freight terminals using ICDs(inland container depots) as hub inland terminals. This paper explains the process and the methods adopted for site selection, with special focus on the Youngnam Freight Terminal. Among nineteen developable sites in Youngnam region, four candidates were selected based on the Map Overlay Approach under several criteria, including land acquisition costs, proximity to major highways and railroads, suitability of the terrain, etc. In this study, we used the AHP to select the best site among the four sites.

Application of the AHP for Evaluating Third-Party Logistics Service Quality: Shipper's Perspective (제3자물류 서비스 품질 평가를 위한 AHP의 적용에 관한 연구: 화주기업의 관점에서)

  • This study applies the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) to evaluate service quality of Third-Party Logistics (3PL) providers. For this, 3PL service quality is conceptualized and measured using SERVQUAL's five dimensions such as tangibles, reliability, responsiveness, assurance and empathy. Then, the AHP method is applied to determining the relative importance of five service quality dimensions and eventually selecting the best 3PL provider. Finally, this study conducts an empirical case study on four companies providing 3PL services in Korea to demonstrate the basic idea suggested in this paper. The results obtained in the present study indicate that responsiveness to customers is the most important factor perceived by 3PL customers and 3PL C is the best 3PL provider according to the overall service quality scores. In contrast to some previous researches, this study examined issues of service quality from the perspective of 3PL customers as opposed to the perspective of 3PL providers. In order for this study to be more complete, future research is needed in establishing a set of metrics to quantify each dimension of 3PL service quality proposed.

  • An efficient R&D Methodology with minimized development period and cost needs to be developed due to advanced performance requirements of weapon systems. This will require the performance of logistics support analysis and design verification in the development stages of weapon systems through VR technology. VR technology has been applied to the Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) process as a part of collaborative system. In this study, we propose a development and application plan of ILS based on VR technology during the total life cycle of weapon systems. Moreover Digital Maintenance System (DMS) is introduced as a VR tool with key functions. finally, applications and improvement topics of DMS are suggested for use in ILS development.
