  • This study analyzed the factors that influence the development of gynecomastia by comparing blood test results and lifestyle between patients diagnosed with gynecomastia and normal control group. Independent sample t-test and chi-square tests were conducted to examine the mean differences among risk factors, and logistic regression analysis was used to calculate the relative risk ratio of various predictors influencing the development of gynecomastia. Age, HGB, HCT, TC, glucose, ALT, alcohol consumption, hair loss medication and medication for benign prostatic hyperplasia were identified as significant variables. Notably, the use of hair loss medication showed the highest univariate odds ratio of 15.79, while HGB decreased by a factor of 0.37. These results suggest that these could play a significant role in the onset of gynecomastia and could serve as foundational data for future diagnosis and management of the condition.

  • A protections from the frost damage at early ages is one of the serious problems to be considered in cold weather concreting. Frost damage at early ages brings about the harmful influences on the concrete structures such surface cracks and the loss of strength. Therefore, in this paper, the protecting durations of frost damage at early ages according to the standard specifications provided in KCI(Korean Concrete Institute) are suggested by appling logistic curve, which evaluates the strength development of concrete with maturity. According to the results, as W/C and compressive strength for protecting from frost damages at early ages increased, longer protecting duration is required. It shows that the protecting durations of FAC(Fly Ash Cement) are longer than those of OPC(Ordinary Portland Cement).

  • This paper presents multi-source spatial data integration models based on probability theory for landslide hazard assessment. Four probabilistic models such as empirical likelihood ratio estimation, logistic regression, generalized additive and predictive discriminant models are proposed and applied. The models proposed here are theoretically based on statistical relationships between landslide occurrences and input spatial data sets. Those models especially have the advantage of direct use of continuous data without any information loss. A case study from the Gangneung area, Korea was carried out to quantitatively assess those four models and to discuss operational issues.

  • Earthquakes, which are unavoidable natural phenomena in Turkey, have often produced economic and social disaster. The latest destructive earthquakes happened in Van city. Van, Turkey, earthquakes with M = 7.2 occurred on 23 October 2011 at 13:41 (local time), whose epicenter was about 16 km north of Van (Tabanlivillage) and M = 5.6 on 9 November 2011 epicentered near the town of Edremit south of Van in eastern Turkey and caused the loss of life and heavy damages. Both earthquakes killed 644 people and 2608 people were injured. Approximately 4000 buildings collapsed or were seriously damaged. The majority of the damaged structures were seismically insufficient, unreinforced masonry and adobe buildings in rural areas. In this paper, site surveys of the damaged masonry and adobe buildings are presented and the reasons for the caused damages are discussed in detail.

  • Appearance has become an important means of expressing oneself in modern society, and women often desire to lose weight. Therefore, this study examined the diets of female college students with high weight loss needs and analyzed the effects of their body image, sociocultural attitude, body stress and diet behavior on intake weight loss products. Data were collected from 220 Korean female college students from June to July using an online survey program. The questionnaires included body image scale, Sociocultural Attitude Towards Appearance Questionnaire (SATAQ), Body Attitudes Questionnaire (BAQ) and diet behaviors scale. Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, the $x^2$-test, Pearson's correlation coefficients, and logistic regression analysis using the SPSS 22.0 program. There were significant differences in body image, SATAQ, obesity stress and diet behavior between groups. All variables were significantly correlated with each other. Factors influencing weight loss products intake by female university students were SATAQ (OR=1.15, CI=1.03-1.29), obesity stress (OR=1.13, CI=1.06-1.20), diet behaviors (OR=1.21, CI=1.10-1.33), and knowledge regarding the side effects of weight loss products (OR=3.86, CI=1.62-9.20). Thus, it is necessary to teach female college students to recognize healthy weight control methods. Moreover, if weight loss products are needed, appropriate information should be provided regarding the ingredients and side effects of the product.

  • Periodontitis is the major causation of tooth loss in the elderly population. Multiple risk factors include oral microorganisms, smoking, metabolic syndrome, and genetic factors influence periodontitis development. In this study, we conducted a replication study of using previous Korean GWAS results by examining an independent population. The study population was recruited from Mir Dental Clinic, Daegu, Korea. In total, 93 samples were evaluated from July 2016 to January 2017. The sample groups include relatively older patients (>60 years) with no periodontitis (n = 31) and relatively younger patients (range 40~60 years) with severe periodontitis (n = 62). A total of seven markers which were previously reported to be associated with periodontitis were genotyped. Among the seven SNPs, rs16846206 and rs2392510 showed a significant association by logistic regression analysis and Chi square test, respectively. The former SNP showed significant association with severe periodontitis, whereas this study also showed same tendency in which individuals with the minor allele are significantly more frequent in cases than those in controls. The SNP is located on a coding gene (SLC9C2), where the alanine residue 505 is replaced by glycine (Ala505Gly). The later SNP was significant when differed between case and control groups, but there was no significance by logistic regression analysis when controlled for age and sex as covariant. Although the study population size examined in the current study was relatively smaller compared to previous studies, our results implicated that at least the two SNPs (rs16846206 and rs2392510) might be important candidates for the further genetic study.

  • Purpose: Preterm infants are at high risk for adverse neurodevelopmental outcomes. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has been proposed as a means of predicting neurodevelopmental outcomes in this population. It is controversial whether diffuse excessive high signal intensity (DEHSI) represents damage to the white matter or delayed myelination in preterm infants. This study investigated MRI findings for predicting the severity of neurodevelopmental outcomes and assessing whether preterm infants with DEHSI near term-equivalent age have abnormal neurodevelopmental outcomes. Materials and Methods: Preterm infants (n = 64, gestational age at birth < 35 weeks) undergoing brain MRI near term-equivalent age and subsequent neurodevelopmental outcomes were evaluated between 18 and 24 months of age. The associations of MRI findings and the risk of severe cognitive delay, severe psychomotor delay, cerebral palsy (CP), and neurosensory impairment were analyzed. The associations of DEHSI with risks of severe cognitive delay, severe psychomotor delay, CP, and neurosensory impairment (hearing or visual impairment) were analyzed. Outcome data were evaluated by logistic regression and the Fisher's exact test. Results: There were significant associations between abnormal white matter findings and delayed mental development, delayed psychomotor development, neurosensory impairment, and presence of CP. The presence of DEHSI was not correlated with delayed neurodevelopmental outcomes or presence of CP. In multivariate logistic regression analyses, cystic encephalomalacia, punctate lesion, loss of white matter volume and ventricular dilation were significantly associated with CP. Conclusion: Abnormal MRI findings near term-equivalent age in preterm infants predict adverse neurodevelopmental outcomes. No significant association between DEHSI and adverse neurodevelopmental outcomes was demonstrated.

  • Background: Postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV) is one of the most common postoperative complications. Despite this, few papers have reported the incidence and independent risk factors associated with PONV in the context of oral and maxillofacial surgery (OMFS). Therefore, we sought to determine the incidence of PONV, as well as to identify risk factors for the condition in patients who had undergone OMFS under general anesthesia. Methods: A total of 372 patients' charts were reviewed, and the following potential risk factors for PONV were analyzed: age, sex, body mass index, smoking status, history of PONV and/or motion sickness, duration of anesthesia, amount of blood loss, nasogastric tube insertion and retention and postoperative opioid used. Univariate analysis was performed, and variables with a P-value less than 0.1 were entered into a multiple logistic regression analysis, wherein P-values < 0.05 were considered significant. Results: The overall incidence of PONV was 25.26%. In the multiple logistic regression analysis, the following variables were independent predictors of PONV: age < 30 years, history of PONV and/or motion sickness, and anesthesia duration > 4 h. Furthermore, the number of risk factors was proportional to the incidence of PONV. Conclusions: The incidence of PONV in patients who have undergone OMFS varies from center to center depending on patient characteristics, as well as on anesthetic and surgical practice. Identifying the independent risk factors for PONV will allow physicians to optimize prophylactic, antiemetic regimens.

  • Purpose In order for companies to continue to grow, they should properly manage human resources, which are the core of corporate competitiveness. Employee turnover means the loss of talent in the workforce. When an employee voluntarily leaves his or her company, it will lose hiring and training cost and lead to the withdrawal of key personnel and new costs to train a new employee. From an employee's viewpoint, moving to another company is also risky because it can be time consuming and costly. Therefore, in order to reduce the social and economic costs caused by employee turnover, it is necessary to accurately predict employee turnover intention, identify the factors affecting employee turnover, and manage them appropriately in the company. Design/methodology/approach Prior studies have mainly used logistic regression and decision trees, which have explanatory power but poor predictive accuracy. In order to develop a more accurate prediction model, XGBoost is proposed as the classification technique. Then, to compensate for the lack of explainability, SHAP, one of the XAI techniques, is applied. As a result, the prediction accuracy of the proposed model is improved compared to the conventional methods such as LOGIT and Decision Trees. By applying SHAP to the proposed model, the factors affecting the overall employee turnover intention as well as a specific sample's turnover intention are identified. Findings Experimental results show that the prediction accuracy of XGBoost is superior to that of logistic regression and decision trees. Using SHAP, we find that jobseeking, annuity, eng_test, comm_temp, seti_dev, seti_money, equl_ablt, and sati_safe significantly affect overall employee turnover intention. In addition, it is confirmed that the factors affecting an individual's turnover intention are more diverse. Our research findings imply that companies should adopt a personalized approach for each employee in order to effectively prevent his or her turnover.
