The Performance Improvement of Fuzzy Controller using the Shifting Method of Rule Base Table (규칙기반 표의 추이 방법을 이용한 퍼지제어기의 성능개선)

  • It is essential for a fuzzy logic controller to have an appropriate set of rules to perform at the desired level. The linguistic structure of the fuzzy logic controller allows a tentative linguistic policy to be used as an initial rule base. At the design stage, if one can reasonably assemble a good collection of rules, it may then be possible to be tuned to improve the controller performance. In this paper, we proposed the shifting method of rule base table to improve the performance of fuzzy controller. The proposed method is based on the principle of that the effect of the output to regulate the system would be greater when the error increases and the effect of output would be less when the error decreases. According to simulation results, it is an effective method to improve the fuzzy control rule base and the performance of fuzzy logic controllers.

  • This paper presents an optimal design method for fuzzy logic controllers using genetic algorithms. In general, the design of fuzzy logic controllers has difficulties in the acquisition of exper's knowledge and relies to a great extent on empirical and heuristic knowledge which, in many cases, cannot be objectively justified. So, the performance of the controller can be degraded in the case of plant parameter variations or unpredictable incident which the designer may have ignored, and parameters of the fuzzy logic controller obtained by expert's control action may not be global. To solve these problems, the proposed method using genetic algorithms in this paper, can tune the parameters of fuzzy logic controller including scaling factors and determine the appropriate number of fuzzy reles systematically and automatically. We provide the second drder dead time plant and inverted pendulum system to evaluate the feasibility and generality of our proposed method. Comparison shows that the proposed controller can producd higher accuracy and a smaller number of fuzzy rules than manually tuned fuzzy logic controller.

  • One of the most important technology in PA(Factory Automation) is to construct the diagnostic system for manufacturing process. To improve the productibility in the factory, the state of tools such as bite, drill, endmill should be monitored continuously. In this study, fuzzy logic was used to check the wear of drill in drilling process. The input variables to construct the fuzzy rules are cutting force and the rate of cutting force's change. The experiment was done with the fixed spindle speed and feed rate in cutting condition.

  • This paper proposes a new type of fuzzy approximate reasoning method that combines a self organizing feature map and a fuzzy logic. Previous methods considered only input part to determine the number of fuzzy rules, while this paper considers both input and output parts simultaneously. Our approach proved to improve the inference performance. We also developed a new index for avoiding overlearning which guarantees more accurate results. Experimental results showed that our approach surpasses the performance of Takagi & Hayashi (1991) approach.

  • Fuzzy logic is applied to a roll autopilot for missiles. Fuzzy rules are made so that the response duplicates that of the conventional control law for some flight condition. A scaling factor of the fuzzy controller is then scheduled by the missile velocity and altitude information to cope with the variation of the roll dynamics from that flight condition. By computer simulations and calculation of the stability margin, it is shown that the fuzzy control is robuster than the conventional one over the flight envelope even though two control laws work similarly for some flight conditions.

  • In this paper, a fuzzy precompensated PI controller for inverter-type air-conditioner is presented. The presented control scheme is composed of a fuzzy logic precompensator and PI controller, in which two control schemes are serially connected. The rules of the fuzzy precompensator is designed to improve the performance by considering the nonlinear characteristics of a temperature dynamics. The experimental results show the effectiveness of the proposed controller.

  • This study describes the jump error smoothing scheme with fuzzy logic based on the scalar adaptive filter. The scalar adaptive filter is an useful algorithm for smoothing abrupt jump errors. However, the performances of scalar adaptive algorithm depend on the variance of real signal. So to design an effective algorithm, many informations of real and jump signal are required. In this paper, the fuzzy rules are designed by the analysis of scalar adaptive filter, and then the improved and simplified scheme is developed for smoothing the jump error. Simulations to INS/GPS integrated system show that the proposed method is effective.

  • Three single loop fuzzy logic controllers are designed independently for the control of boiler system of fossil-power plant. The control rules and the membership functions of proposed fuzzy logic control system are generated automatically without using plant model. The simulation shows successful results for wide range operation of boiler system of fossil-power plant.

  • A promising approach to get the benefits of neural networks and fuzzy logic is to combine them into an integrated system to merge the computational power of neural networks and the representation and reasoning properties of fuzzy logic. In this context, this paper presents a fuzzy neural network which is able to code fuzzy knowledge in the form of it-then rules in its structure. The network also provides an efficient structure not only to code knowledge, but also to support fuzzy reasoning and information processing. A learning scheme is also derived for a class of membership functions.

  • Fuzzy Logic Control immitating human decision making process is a novel control strategy based on expert's experience and knowledge and many process designers are developing its applications. But it is difficult to obtain a set of rules from human operator. And there is a limitation on adjusting to environmental changes. In this paper, we proposed adaptive fuzzy algorithm to overcome these difficulties using weights added to the rules. To verify the validity of this control strategy, we have implemented this algorithm for a DC servo motor with PD-type fuzzy controller.
