To improve microbiological quality of Aster scaber during storage and distribution, hurdle technology with the sanitizers and packaging methods was used. After blanching, total aerobic bacteria of Aster scaber treated with 20% ethanol and 10% NaCl were measured at 2 log CFU/g after 6 days. Total aerobic bacteria of blanched Aster scaber at $100^{\circ}C$ were measured at 2 log CFU/g, and the storage at $4^{\circ}C$ effectively inhibited the growth of bacteria. Repeated blanching using water with added NaCl at $80^{\circ}C$ showed similar microbial growth inhibition compared with treatment at $100^{\circ}C$. After vacuum packaging, blanched sample showed 2 log CFU/g of total aerobic bacteria during 10 days (the storage at $4^{\circ}C$). Therefore, repeated blanching using the water with added 10% NaCl improved the microbiological quality of Aster scaber. We also found that repeated blanching after vacuum packaging was an effective way for storage and distribution of Aster scaber. In conclusion, blanching two times in the 10% salt water or in vacuum packaging at $80{\sim}100^{\circ}C$ would be helpful to control the microbes during storage and distribution.
This paper presents applications of the log-linear ROCOF(rate-of-occurrence-of-failure) and the Weibull ROCOF to model the failure rate of individual cast iron pipes in a water distribution system and provides a method of estimating the economically optimal replacement time of the pipes using the 'modified time-scale'. The performance of the two ROCOFs is examined using the maximized log-likelihood estimates of the ROCOFs for the two types of failure data: 'failure-time data' and 'failure-number data'. The optimal replacement time equations for the two models are developed by applying the 'modified time-scale' to ensure the numerical convergence of the estimated values of the model parameters. The methodology is applied to the case study water distribution cast iron pipes and it is found that the log-linear ROCOF has better modeling capability than the Weibull ROCOF when the 'failure-time data' is used. Furthermore, the 'failure-time data' is determined to be more appropriate for both ROCOFs compared to the 'failure-number data' in terms of the ROCOF modeling performances for the water mains under study, implying that recording each failure time results in better modeling of the failure rate than recording failure numbers in some time intervals.

For a coastal or harbor structure design, one of the most important environmental factors is the appropriate design wave condition. Especially, the information of deepwater wave height distribution is essential for reliability design. In this paper, a set of deep water wave data obtained from KORDI(2003) were analyzed for extreme wave heights. These wave data at 67 stations off the Korean coast from 1979 to 1998 were arranged in the 16 directions. The probability distributions considered in this research were the Weibull, the Gumbel, the Log-pearson Type-III, and Lognormal distribution. For each of these distributions, three parameter estimation methods, i.e. the method of moments, maximum likelihood and probability weighted moments, were applied. Chi-square and Kolmogorov-Smirnov goodness-of-fit tests were performed, and the assumed distribution was accepted at the confidence level 95%. Gumbel distribution which best fits to the 67 station was selected as the most probable parent distribution, and optimally estimated parameters and 50 year design wave heights were presented.
Numerical method of nonlinear regression was introduced to characterize grain-size distribution more effectively than using the traditional textural parameters. This technique proved critical particularly to multimodal size distributions, as exemplified by samples from Cheju strait continental shelf. Grain-size analysis of samples collected from the Cheju Strait continental shelf reveals that 86% of the grain-size distributions are multimodal. As multimodal grain-size distribution deviates from the statistical (log) normal distribution, the grain-size parameters traditionally used in sediment studies do not describe the distribution efficiently. Therefore, the use of grain-size curves into elementary normal component curves was used. Means and standard deviations of 387 decomposed normal components were decided by a decomposition method (nonlinear least square regression) from 167 size curves of the Cheju Strait sediments. The mean values of decomposed normal components show peaks at 1-3 phi and 8-9 phi size classes. The plot of mean values of the coarse fraction normal components on the map shows a characteristic and complex areal distribution. On the basis of the areal distribution of the mean values of the components and that of isopach of total Plenipotence sediment, the areal distribution of layers composing a transgressive sand of Late Plenipotence age were revealed.

The aim of this study was to provide the quality index of salted Korean cabbage in a short-term distribution system. Salted Korean cabbages were packaged with or without 2% salt water, and then distributed in a conventional system (CVS) and a cold-chain system (CCS) for 6 h. The material temperature of samples with and without salt water gradually increased to $19.57^{\circ}C$ and $19.43^{\circ}C$ in a CVS, respectively and to $10.73^{\circ}C$ and $12.90^{\circ}C$ in a CCS, respectively. Salinity of the materials in a CCS did not change, whereas salinities of the materials in a CVS were 1.2 and 1.7 fold higher, respectively. Also, a slight increase in acidity was observed in both packaging materials in a CCS. In the case of a CVS, total aerobic bacteria and lactic acid bacteria increased to 7.62 log CFU/g and 6.77 log CFU/g in the materials with salt water, respectively, whereas the number of total aerobic bacteria and lactic acid bacteria ranged between 5.62-5.85 log CFU/g and 4.33-4.83 log CFU/g in the materials without salt water, respectively. However, significant microbial changes were not observed in a CCS as distribution time increased. CCS with salt water packaging was effective in achieving microbial control and maintaining physicochemical quality. Salinity, aerobic bacteria, and lactic acid bacteria can be useful as quality indices for a CVS, and acidity can be useful as quality index for a CCS.
The objective of this study was to provide preliminary data for food industry by investigating the distribution of microorganisms in raw materials and sausage examining the effect of heating temperature on sausage quality. Total microbes in sausage ranged 2.21-3.11 Log CFU/g. Bacillus pumilus, B. licheniformis, Staphylococcus saprophyticus, and Enterococcus faecalis were detected on sausage. Total microbes in raw materials was 1.59-7.16 Log CFU/g. Different types of microorganisms were found depending on raw materials, with B. pumilus and B. subtilis were being detected in both raw materials and sausage. Total microbes in sausage after heating was in the range of 1.10-2.22 Log CFU/g, showing the trend of decrease in total microbe with increasing heating temperature, although the decrease was not significant. With increasing heating temperature, pH and hardness were also increased. The yield of sausage manufactured at $85^{\circ}C$ was 95.42% while that manufactured at $65^{\circ}C$ was 96.67%. Therefore, decreasing heating temperature during sausage production might increase yield and save energy without microbiological effect.
A traditional speech enhancement methods distort the sound spectrum generated according to estimation of the remaining noise, or invalid noise is a problem of lowering the speech recognition performance. In this paper, we propose a speech detection method that convergence the sound energy distribution process and sound energy parameters. The proposed method was used to receive properties reduce the influence of noise to maximize voice energy. In addition, the smaller value from the feature parameters of the speech signal The log energy features of the interval having a more of the log energy value relative to the region having a large energy similar to the log energy feature of the size of the voice signal containing the noise which reducing the mismatch of the training and the recognition environment recognition experiments Results confirmed that the improved recognition performance are checked compared to the conventional method. Car noise environment of Pause Hit Rate is in the 0dB and 5dB lower SNR region showed an accuracy of 97.1% and 97.3% in the high SNR region 10dB and 15dB 98.3%, showed an accuracy of 98.6%.
For the time-to-failure data with competing risks, cumulative incidence functions (CIFs) are commonly estimated using nonparametric methods. If the cases of events due to the cause of primary interest are infrequent relative to other cause of failure, nonparametric methods may result in rather imprecise estimates for CIF. In such cases, Bryant et al. (2004) suggested to model the cause-specific hazard of primary interest parametrically, while accounting for the other modes of failure using nonparametric estimator. We represented the semiparametric cumulative incidence estimator and extended to the model of Weibull and log-normal distribution. We also conducted simulations to access the performance of the semiparametric cumulative incidence estimators and to investigate the impact of model misspecification in log-normal cause-specific hazard model.
This paper presents techniques for estimating directions of multiple sound sources ranging from $0^{\circ}$ to $360^{\circ}$ using circular probability distributions having a periodic property. Phase differences containing direction information of sources can be modeled as mixtures of multiple probability distributions and source directions can be estimated by maximizing log-likelihood functions. Although the von Mises distribution is widely used for analyzing this kind of periodic data, we define a new class of circular probability distributions from Gaussian and Laplacian distributions by adopting a modulo operation to have $2{\pi}$-periodicity. Direction estimation with these circular probability distributions is done by implementing corresponding EM (Expectation-Maximization) algorithms. Simulation results in various reverberant environments confirm that Laplacian distribution provides better performance than von Mises and Gaussian distributions.

The present study was undertaken to establish the decision standard of builds for the insured by using the ratio of weight-for-height as build index. Materials being examined were the ratio of weight-for-height being calculated from the actually measured heights and weights of a total of 15,838 insured persons who were examined medically at Honam Medical Department of Dong Bang Life Insurance Company, Ltd. from June, 1979 to September, 1985. The ratio of weight-for-height is calculated by the following formula. The ratio of weight-for-height(%)=$\frac{weight(kg){\times}100}{\{height(cm)-100\}{\times}0.9(kg)$ The results were as follows: 1. The distribution of the ratio of weight. for-height of the 15,838 insureds follows Log normal distribution being skewed to the left(the direction of underweight). 2. The ratio of weight-for-height were Log transformed to lead to a sym metrical pattern of distribution in which statistical rules are known to be applied more exactly. Thereafter, the establishment of dicision standard of builds was undertaken by using the log of the ratio of weight-for-height as build index. Through all ages in male, the ratio of weight-for-height indicating the range of standard lives including slight overweighted and underweighted lives besides normal lives is 80-130%, and corresponds to $"M-2{\delta}"-"M+1.5{\delta}"$ and to $M{\pm}20%$ ; in female, 85-135%, and corresponds to $"M-2{\delta}"-"M+1.5{\delta}"$ and to $M{\pm}20%$. Through all ages in male, the ratio of weight-for-height indicating the initial level of super-overweighted and super-underweighted lives is 130-150% and 75-80%,and corresponds to $M+3{\delta}\;and\;M-3{\delta}$ and to M+40% and M-25% respectively;in female, 140-160% and 75-80%, and corresponds to $M+3{\delta}\;and\;M-3{\delta}$ and to M+40%-+50% and M-25% respectively. 3. Author's rating table model for builds(a table of weight per height) is proposed. On the table, the ratings for builds, i. e. standard, super-weighted and super-underweighted lives, are listed.
