Current freight electric locomotives (132 ton) of the eco-friendly and can carry large cargo logistics as a means of generation has increased the demand at home and abroad. Especially, Freight electric locomotives to increase the traction, it is easy to mass and rapid transport. In addition, Freight electric locomotives is no exhaust and low noise compared to diesel -electric locomotives and it can be eco-friendly transportation. CO_CO BOGIE of Freight electric locomotives has no the center pivot and Traction_Rod and Spring of CO_CO BOGIE is mounted on the body. These freight electric locomotives to be satisfied with the safety regulations. Carbody development satisfied Implementation of optimum body and collision is the focus. Accordingly, the different approach in the upper and lower carbody structure and interior and equipment placement is needed. On this paper, the contents give explanation of cases on carbody design composed of freight electric locomotives now developed and process of improvement by structure analysis and collision analysis.
Due to the complaints on the emission gases from diesel locomotives, the diesel locomotives are replaced by electric locomotives, resulting in the decrease of diesel locomotives in Korea. However, the emission gases from diesel locomotives have become serious environmental concern at stations and car depots. In this study, a diesel particluate filter (DPF) for diesel locomotive was developed in order to reduce the emission gases. The concentration of nano particulate matters before and after the DPF was analyzed using a SMPS (Scanning mobility particle sizer) and MOUDI (Micro orifice uniform deposited impactor) to evaluate the performance of DPF in particulate matters removal.
$DF_{21}$ diesel locomotive was designed to satisfy the requirement of Kunming Meter track and the 2Co self-guided radial bogie was used to suit the complex curve track. There are totally 12 locomotives was served on the track. The first two locomotives were devotion running on the track since April 2003, the wheel tread splling was occurred on the middle wheel set of the two locomotives after running nearly 150 thousands km on the track of the two locomotives at August 2004. The dynamic analysis was carried out to find the reason. The wheel set longitudinal vibration resonance phenomenon was existed on the locomotive dynamic performance, and this was caused by the too big longitudinal stiffness of the journal box bar on the middle wheel set. Wheel set longitudinal vibration resonance maybe an important reason of lead to wheel tread spalling. The corresponding mend methods were put forward from the point of view of wheel set longitudinal vibration resonance. All the wheel tread of the 12 locomotives on the middle wheel set were in good condition and not occurred the wheel tread spalling after the mend till December 2007 after 350 thousands km were finished. The mechanism of the wheel tread splling and corresponding mend method was discussed in detail in this paper.
The particulate matters emitted by diesel locomotives cause serious air pollution in stations and railroad. There have been various attempt to reduce the air pollution from diesel bus or trucks. However, the air pollution from the diesel locomotives has been out of control because there has not any adaptable technology. In this study, a diesel particulate filter was developed and applied to the diesel locomotives. A 3,000 horsepower large-scale locomotive and a 1,500 horsepower middle-scale locomotive were used for the test of the filter. The particulate matter emissions before and after the treatment was monitored by a scanning mobility particle sizer and a dust monitor. As a result, it was observed that the particulate matters could be successfully removed from the emission gases by using the filter.
As of July 1999, i,185 lomocotives(excluding metropolitan area electric locomotives) are in Korean National Railroad(KNR). With this limited number of resources assigning locomotives to each trains of timetable is very important in the entire railway management point of view because schedule can be regarded as goods in transportation industry. On a simple rail network, it is rather easier to assign proper locomotives to trains with the experience of operating experts and get optimal assignment solution. However, as the network is getting bigger and complicated, the number of trains and corresponding locomotives will be dramatically increased to rover all the demands required to service all of the trains in timetable. There will be also numerous operational constraints to be considered. Assigning proper locomotives to trains and building optimal cyclic rotations of locomotive routings will result in increasing efficiency of schedule and giving a guarantee of more profit. The purpose of this study is two fold: (1) we consider a planning-level locomotive scheduling problem with the objective of minimizing the wasting cost under various practical constraints and (2) development of implementation prototype program of its assigning result. Not like other countries, i.e. Canada, Sweden, Korean railroad operates on n daily schedule basis. The objective is to find optimal assignment of locomotives of different types to each trains, which minimize the wasting cost. This problem is defined on a planning stage and therefore, does not consider operational constraints such as maintenance and emergency cases. Due to the large scale of the problem size and complexity, we approach with heuristic methods and column generation to find optimal solution. The locomotive scheduling prototype consists of several modules including database, optimization engine and diagram generator. The optimization engine solves MIP model and provides an optimal locomotive schedule using specified optimization algorithms. A cyclic locomotive route diagram can be generated using this optimal schedule through the diagram generator.
Life cycle cost analysis is compulsively required for the system operation. System operation costs are consisted of acquisition, operation, maintenance and so on. In the beginning of the system planning, we need to take into account of various costs following the system operating. To implement LCC, we need to analyze system life cycle to identify all costs during system life. The costs can be divided into three parts. The first part is purchasing cost, the second for operating cost and the last for disposal cost. The second operating cost can be decomposed of operating cost included labor, energy consumption cost for system running, maintenance costs to keep systems healthy, delay cost caused from maintenance and hazard cost, and so on. In this paper, we carried out for railway locomotives which operate over more 30years and which cost about 10 million USD. We decompose the life cycle of the locomotives and break down the locomotives into subsystems to require maintenance or not, and subsystems to need energy or not. We showed how to decide optimal locomotives through cost identification and system breakdown.
PWM controlled line-side converters of modern ac traction locomotives inject harmonic currents into the feeding overhead line. This causes problem of electromagnetic interference. Passive and Active filters are usually provided for a reduction of the line harmonics. Active filters are more reasonable than passive filters in terms of weight and space of the filters. Successful control of active filters requires an accurate harmonic current reference. A technique to generate the harmonic current reference is proposed in this paper. The analysis is performed in frequency domain and its effectiveness is verified by simulation.
New locomotives 8100 & series 8200, based on the BR152 of German railway are suitable for heavy-duty freight traffic as well as for passenger transport. This electric locomotive had applied by trial petition way and 57 car is operating in mainline and industrial line until now. As matter of fact, this has a purpose to help designing and manufacturing the new electric locomotive in these day when almost all the line is changing into the electric fire line. This thesis has a purpose to check whether the actual simulation value properly apply and meet the designing value, comparing the result of the simulation for the performance of developed locomotive with the result of the type test which can be proceed in actual locomotive in korea (evaluating both the design value and the performance of the real locomotive).
This paper analyzes impedance convergence characteristics and harmonics of electric locomotives operation and fault condition. To simulate the various fault and operation condition, AT feeding system and various locomotives are modeled using PSCAD/EMTDC. Analysis shows that impedance are converged into protection area in the case of short fault between catenary and rail or catenary and feeder line but in the case of disconnection fault, impedance is rater bigger so protective relay can't detect the fault. Therefore more analysis of overload and high impedance fault caused disconnection fault is needed.
