  • To investigate the vortex induced vibrations the 2-d.o.f. spring mounted circular cylinder was tested in the wind tunnel. The circular cylinder was designed to have the translational and the rotational mode uncoupled to each other. During the wind tunnel tests the resonance behaviors of the translational and the rotational modes by the locking-on phenomena were observed. From the locking-on phenomena observed it is shown that the vortex shedding is correlated with the responses of the structures. And the forces generated by the vortex shedding are influenced by the amplitudes and the frequencies of the cylinders.

  • This paper presents the experimental result and theoretical analysis result to investigate the correlation between the operating force, angle and locking torque for vehicle hood frame. Also, we derived the experimental equation that using the results for experiment and theory. The hood frame is switching-devices used for opening and closing the vehicle hood. It needs the correlation data between locking torques of each joint, operating force and angle of hood frame. The correlation data for torque and reaction force of hood frame obtained through experiment and theory analysis. Finally, the experimental equation of the locking torque prediction for the hood frame is derived.

  • This paper presents fast locking PLL(Phase Locked Loop) that can improve a jitter noise characteristics and acquisition process by designing a PFD(Phase Frequency Detector) circuit. The conventional PFD has not only a jitter noise caused from such a demerit of the wide dead zone and duty cycle, but also a long delay interval that makes a high speed operation unable. The advanced PFD circuit using the TSPC(True Single Phase Clocking) circuit is proposed, and it has excellent performances such as 1.75us of locking time and independent duty cycle characteristic. It is fabricated in a 0.018-${\mu}m$ CMOS process, and 1.8v supply voltage, and 25MHz of input oscillator frequency, and 800MHz of output frequency and is simulated by using ADE of Cadence.

  • In this paper, RKPM is extended for solving moderately thick and thin structures. General Timoshenko beam and Mindlin plate theory are used far formulation. Shear locking is the main difficulty in analysis of these kinds of structures. Shear relaxation factor, which is formulated using the difference between bending and shear strain energy, is introduced to overcome shear locking. Analysis results obtained reveal that RKPM using introduced method is free of locking and very effectively applicable to deeply as well as shallowly beams and plates.

  • The main purpose of this research is to predict dynamic behavior of door locking system for side impact safety and the design process to avoid door opening is introduced. The equations of motion that represent the system are obtained from the energy equation. From them, the motion of door handle is predicted by using Runge-Kutta $4^{th}$ order method and the simulation result is compared with the real crash data. Also, the design guide to define the properties of door locking system from the standpoint of avoiding door opening phenomenon is introduced.

  • In the turbine-blade manufacturing industry, turbine-blades are machined and then are assembled to form a circular roll of blades. The roll of blades should be balanced as much as possible, since otherwise the efficiency of the turbine generator might be damaged. A locking blade is a blade whose location is fixed and a non-locking blade is a blade whose location can be freely changed. In this paper, we study methods for balancing the weights of the rotating blades for a turbine where some blades are locking blades. The turbine-blade balancing problem is formulated into a mixed-integer programming problem, which turns out to be NP-hard. A heuristic method based on the number partitioning algorithm is developed and the computational experiments show very promising results.

  • The paper is concerned with the elasto-plastic and geometrically nonlinear analysis of shell structures using an improved degenerated shell element. In the formulation of the element stiffness, the combined use of three different techniques was made. They are; 1) an enhanced interpolation of transverse shear strains in the natural coordinate system to overcome the shear locking problem ; 2) the reduced integration technique in in-plane strains to avoid the membrane locking behavior ; and 3) selective addition of the nonconforming displacement modes to improve the element performances. This element is free of serious shear/membrane locking problems and undesirable compatible/commutable spurious kinematic deformation modes. In the formulation for plastic deformation, the concept of a layered element model is used and the material is assumed von Mises yield criterion. An incremental total Lagrangian formulation is presented which allows the calculation of arbitrarily large displacements and rotations. The resulting non-linear equilibrium equations are solved by the Netwon-Raphson method combined with load or displacement increment. The versatility and accuracy of this improved degenerated shell element are demonstrated by solving several numerical examples.

  • For sharing XML data by many users, a way of concurrency and access control is required for isolating update actions such as inserting and deleting subtrees. Exisiting locking mechanisms as 2PL or MGL suffer low concurrency when applied to tree structures. In this paper, list data subtrees model is proposed based on the semantics expressed in DTD. In this model, tree updating actions such as inserting and deleting subtrees are considered only for the repetitive parts of XML trees. The proposed model guarantees that the result XML tree after applying a tree updating action is always valid, even when multiple users access the tree at the same time. Also, a new locking mechanism called list lock-ing protocol is proposed. The new locking protocol is expected to show better accessility with less number of locking objects compared to the Helmer's OO2PL model. Since update actions on a shared XML tree usually applied to the repetitive parts of the tree, the proposed model is expected to provide a useful way for efficient data sharing when combined with previous locking methods on terminal node data.
