A Study on the New Isolation Technology to Improve the Bird's Beak and the Device Characteristics (Bird's Beak 및 소자특성 개선을 위한 새로운 Isolation 기술에 대한 연구)

  • The local oxidation of silicon (LOCOS) technology, which uses a silicon nitride film as an oxidation mask and a pad oxide beween the silicon nitride and the silicon substrate, has been widely used in integrated circuits for process simplicity. But, due to long brid's beak length, there are difficulties in scabilities. Many advanced isolation techniques have been wuggested for the feduction of bird's beak length. In this paper, we presented reduced bird's beak length using the polybuffered oxide and the silicon nitride as the sidewall. Also, investigating the electrical behavior of the parasitic Al-gate MOSFET on LOCOS, we proved the validity for new isolation process.

  • $SF_6/O_2$ 플라즈마 에칭을 통한 반도체 칩의 3차원 집적에 응용되는 through-silicon-via (TSV) 구조형성 연구를 수행하였다. Si via 형상은 $SF_6$, $O_2$의 가스 비율과 에칭이 되는 Silicon 기판의 온도에 의존함을 알수 있었다. 또한 Si via 형상에서 최소의 언더컷 (undercut) 과 측벽에칭 (local bowing) 은 black Si이 나타나는 공정조건에서 나타남을 확인하였다. 더 나아가 저온을 이용한 via 형성시 via 측벽에 형성되는 passivation layer와 mask의 성질이 저온으로 인해 high-aspect-ratio를 갖는 via를 형성할 수 있음을 알 수 있었다.

Robust ROI Watermarking Scheme Based on Visual Cryptography: Application on Mammograms

  • In this paper, a novel robust medical images watermarking scheme is proposed. In traditional methods, the added watermark may alter the host medical image in an irreversible manner and may mask subtle details. Consequently, we propose a method for medical image copyright protection that may remedy this problem by embedding the watermark without modifying the original host image. The proposed method is based on the visual cryptography concept and the dominant blocks of wavelet coefficients. The logic in using the blocks dominants map is that local features, such as contours or edges, are unique to each image. The experimental results show that the proposed method can withstand several image processing attacks such as cropping, filtering, compression, etc.

Modified Weighted Filter Algorithm for Noise Elimination In Mixed Noise Environments

  • Noise is regarded as an unwanted component of the image because it significantly reduces image quality. And image is often corrupted by mixed noise. In this paper an efficient modified weighted filter algorithm which combines spatial weight and intensity weight is proposed for removing mixed noise. In the proposed method, the filtering mask is separated into the four sub-windows and the parameters of the weights are confirmed by calculating local standard deviation and the mean of four sub-windows' standard deviations. Considering the spatial information and intensity information, the proposed method has good performance on not only noise elimination but also preservation of details. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed method performs better than conventional algorithms.

  • Road damage detection is important for road maintenance. With the development of deep learning, more and more road damage detection methods have been proposed, such as Fast R-CNN, Faster R-CNN, Mask R-CNN and RetinaNet. However, because shallow and deep layers cannot be extracted at the same time, the existing methods do not perform well in detecting objects with fewer samples. In addition, these methods cannot obtain a highly accurate detecting bounding box. This paper presents a Multi-level Feature Pyramids method based on M2det. Because the feature layer has multi-scale and multi-level architecture, the feature layer containing more information and obvious features can be extracted. Moreover, an attention mechanism is used to improve the accuracy of local boundary boxes in the dataset. Experimental results show that the proposed method is better than the current state-of-the-art methods.

  • In this paper, we describe the physical modelling and numerical aspects of a program called PRECISE(Program for Efficient Calculation of Impurity Profile in Semiconductor by Elimination) which calcualtes a two-dimensional impurity profile in silicon due to diffusion and ion implantation steps. The PRECISE enables rapid prediction of the two-dimensional impurity profile near the mask edge-or the bird's beak during the local oxidation process. This has been developed by modifying the existing one-dimentional simulator, DIFSIM(DIFfusion SIMulator to include models for arsenic diffusion and emitter dip effect which were found out to agree fairly well with the xperimental data.

Impacts of the Land-sea Distribution around Korean Peninsula on the simulation of East Asia Summer Precipitation (동아시아 여름 강수 모의에 있어 한반도 주변 해륙분포가 미치는 영향)

  • This paper investigates summer precipitation change in East Asia according to switching surface boundary condition over South Korea and Shantung. Simulations are carried out by ECHO-G/S for 20 years (1980-1999). Surface condition over both areas in ECHO-G/S is represented by ocean (OCN experiment). In OCN experiment, the summer precipitation is considerably underestimated around the Korean peninsula (the dry region) and overestimated over the eastern Tibetan Plateau (the wet region). It may be related that the lack of the heat sources from the unrealistically prescribed land-sea mask weakens northward expansion of rainband and the development of convective precipitation. Moreover the simulated rainband retreats before June in connection with the early genesis of summer monsoon circulation. The systematic bias of the summer precipitation over the dry and wet regions are reduced comparing with the OCN experiment when the land-sea masks over South Korea and Shantung are realistically considered as land (LND experiment). These improvements can be explained by the thermodynamical dissimilarity between land and ocean. Enhanced warming by switching the areas from sea to land has led to develop the thermal low over Yellow Sea with the cyclonic circulation. Thus, this cyclonic circulation supports moistures from the south to the dry region and blocks to the wet region. The heat transport from the land surface to atmosphere plays a key role in the developing convective precipitation in local scale and maintaining the precipitation and the rainband. Therefore, this results indicate that the design of the realistic land-sea distribution is required for the accurate simulation of the regional precipitation.

Enhancement of Faded Images Using Integrated Compensation Coefficients Based on Multi-Scale Gray World Algorithm (다중크기 회색계 알고리즘 기반의 통합된 보정 계수를 이용한 바랜 영상 개선)

  • Fading effect of old pictures and printings is shown up differently according to the ink property, temperature, humidity, illuminants, and so on. Faded image enhancement techniques based on illuminant estimation are proposed such as the gray world algorithm and white patch retinex methods. However, conventional simple operators are not suitable for enhancing faded images because partial fading effect is appeared differently. Thus, this paper presents a color enhancement algorithm based on integrating correction coefficients for faded images. First, the proposed method adopts local process by using multi-scale average mask. The coefficients for each multi-scale average mask are obtained to apply the gray world algorithm. Then, integrating the coefficients with weights is performed to calculate correction ratio for red and blue channels in the gray world assumption. Finally, the enhanced image is obtained by applying the integrated coefficients to the gray world algorithm. In the experimental results, the proposed method reproduces better colors for both wholly and partially faded images compared with the previous methods.

Noise Removal Algorithm Considering High Frequency Components in AWGN Environments (AWGN 환경에서 고주파 성분을 고려한 잡음 제거 알고리즘)

  • Recently, interests in the field of image processing have increased with the increased demand for digital imaging devices. However, digital images are damaged by the noise generated by various causes during image processing. Generally in digital imaging devices, noise such as AWGN, etc. is generated and performance and reliability are deteriorated, and various researches are in progress to remove it. Accordingly in the present paper, an algorithm to protect the high frequency components of the images and to efficiently remove AWGN is proposed. The proposed algorithm calculates the final output by adjusting estimate values applied with Gaussian mask and weight values applied according to the local mask distribution. And for performance evaluation of the proposed algorithm, simulations were performed with the existing methods, and the characteristics were compared through PSNR and the processed, enlarged images.

Text Region Segmentation from Web Images using Variance Maps (분산맵을 이용한 웹 이미지 텍스트 영역 추출)

  • A variance map can be used to detect and distinguish texts from background in images. However, previous variance maps work at one level and they suffer a limitation in dealing with varieties in text size, slant, orientation, translation, and color. We present a method for robustly segmenting text regions in complex color Web images using two-level variance maps. The two-level variance maps work hierarchically. The first level finds the approximate locations of text regions using global horizontal and vertical color variances with the specific mask sizes. The second level then segments each text region using intensity variance with a local mask size, which is determined adaptively. By the second process, backgrounds tend to disappear in each region and segmentation can be accurate. Highly promising experimental results have established the effectiveness of our approach.
