  • Increase in avian species richness is one of the important issues of urban biodiversity policies, since it can promote diverse ecosystem services such as seed dispersal, education, and pollination. However, though human disturbance can significantly affect avian species richness, there are limited studies on the way to reflect the dynamics of floating population. Therefore, this study analyzed the spatial relationship between avian species richness, floating population, and vegetation cover using telecommunications information to identify the areas that requiring targeted monitoring and restoration action. Bivariate Local Moran's I was applied to identify LISA cluster map that showing representative biotopes, which reflect significant spatial relationship between species richness and population distribution. Edge density and distribution of ndvi were identified for evaluating relative adequacy of selected biotopes to strengthen the robust biodiversity network. This study offers insight to consider human disturbance in spatial context using innovative big data to increase the effectiveness of urban biodiversity measures.

  • In this paper, we analyzed current states and spatial characteristics of crime occurring in A city of Colombia using big data of crime. The analysis draws on the crime statistics of Colombia National Police Agency from 2013 January to September. We also investigated spatial autocorrelation of crime using global and local Moran's Index. Spatial autocorrelation analysis shows significant spatial autocorrelation in the high frequency of crime. Global Moran's I analysis indicates that there are statistically significant value of crime area. Using local Moran's Index analysis, we also implement Local Indicators of Spatial Association(LISA) map and hot spot analysis helps us identify crime distribution.

  • A hotspot is a spatial pattern that properties or events of spaces are densely revealed in a particular area. Whereas location information is easily captured with increasing use of mobile devices, so is not our emotion unless asking directly through a survey. Tweet provides a good way of analyzing such spatial sentiment, but relevant research is hard to find. Therefore, we analyzed hotspots of emotion in the twitter using spatial autocorrelation. 10,142 tweets and related GPS data were extracted. Sentiment of tweets was classified into good or bad with a support vector machine algorithm. We used Moran's I and Getis-Ord $G_i^*$ for global and local spatial autocorrelation. Some hotspots were found significant and drawn on Seoul metropolitan area map. These results were found very similar to an earlier conducted official survey of happiness index.

  • In August 2022, even though flood damage occurred in the metropolitan area due to heavy rain, drought warnings were issued in Jeolla province, which indicates that the regional drought is intensified recent years. To cope with regarding intensified regional droughts, many studies have been conducted to identify spatial patterns of the occurrence of meteorological drought, however, case studies of spatial clustering for water shortage are not sufficient. In this study, using the estimations of water shortage in the Han River Basin in 2030 of the Master Plans for National Water Management, the spatial characteristics of water shortage were analyzed to identify the hotspot areas based on the Local Moran's I and Getis-Ord Gi*, which are representative indicators of spatial clustering analysis. The spatial characteristics of water shortage areas were verified based on the p-value and the Moran scatter plot. The overall results of for three anayisis periods (S0(1967-1983), S1(1984-2000), S2(2001-2018)) indicated that the lower Imjin River (#1023) was the hotspot for water shortage, and there are moving patterns of water shortage from the east of lower Imjin River (#1023) to the west during S2 compared to S0 and S1. In addition, the Yangyang-namdaecheon (#1301) was the HL area that is adjacent to a high water shortage area and a low water shortage area, and had water shortage pattern in S2 compared to S0 and S1.

  • The purpose of the study is to propose and evaluate Exploratory Spatial Data Analysis(ESDA) methods for examining age-specific population migration characteristics. First, population migration pyramid which is a pyramid-shaped graph designed with in-migration, out-migration, and net migration by age (or age group), was developed as a tool exploring age-specific migration propensities and structures. Second, various spatial statistics techniques based on local indicators of spatial association(LISA) such as Local Moran''s $I_i$, Getis-Ord ${G_i}^*$, and AMOEBA were suggested as ways to detect spatial dusters of age-specific net migration rate. These ESDA techniques were applied to age-specific population migration of Daegu Metropolitan City. Application results demonstrated that suggested ESDA methods can effectively detect new information and patterns such as contribution of age-specific migration propensities to population changes in a given region, relationship among different age groups, hot and cold spot of age-specific net migration rate, and similarity between age-specific spatial clusters.

  • There are many factors that cause uneven regional developments in the country and one of main factors is outflow of regional income or products. The purpose of this study is to analyze regional production runoff by comparing GRDP and GRNI in basic local governments level. In this study, GRNI of basic local governments are estimated by local income tax data, The results of the study are as follows. Firstly, GRNI is more concentrated than GRDP. The analysis of Moran I showed that the spatial autocor-relation of GRNI is more distinct than that of GRDP. Local Moran I analysis shows that spatial hot spots and cold spots are more apparent in GRNI than GRDP. Secondly, the outflows of GRDP into a small number of regions are apparent. In about 80% of basic local governments, the net outflows of GRDP occur. The large net outflow regions are cities where manufacturing industry has developed and in the 20 lowest net outflow rate regions, 70-80% of GRDP outflows. The large net inflow regions are metropolitan area in Seoul and large local cities. Seocho-gu, Yongsan-gu, and Gangnam-gu in Seoul have a large net inflows and net inflow rates are over 90% of GRDP.

  • This study analyzed the water shortage hotspot areas in South Korea using spatial clustering analysis for water shortage estimates in 2030 of the Master Plans for National Water Management. To identify the water shortage cluster areas, we used water shortage data from the past maximum drought (about 50-year return period) and performed spatial clustering analysis using Local Moran's I and Getis-Ord Gi*. The areas subject to spatial clusters of water shortage were selected using the cluster map, and the spatial characteristics of water shortage areas were verified based on the p-value and the Moran scatter plot. The results indicated that one cluster (lower Imjin River (#1023) and neighbor) in the Han River basin and two clusters (Daejeongcheon (#2403) and neighbor, Gahwacheon (#2501) and neighbor) in the Nakdong River basin were found to be the hotspot for water shortage, whereas one cluster (lower Namhan River (#1007) and neighbor) in the Han River Basin and one cluster (Byeongseongcheon (#2006) and neighbor) in the Nakdong River basin were found to be the HL area, which means the specific area have high water shortage and neighbor have low water shortage. When analyzing spatial clustering by standard watershed unit, the entire spatial clustering area satisfied 100% of the statistical criteria leading to statistically significant results. The overall results indicated that spatial clustering analysis performed using standard watersheds can resolve the variable spatial unit problem to some extent, which results in the relatively increased accuracy of spatial analysis.

  • Background: Gastrointestinal tract cancers are among the most common cancers in Iran and comprise approximately 38% of all the reported cases of cancer. This study aimed to describe the epidemiology and to investigate spatial clustering of common cancers of the gastrointestinal tract across the counties of Iran using full Bayesian smoothing and Moran I Index statistics. Materials and Methods: The data of the national registry cancer were used in this study. Besides, indirect standardized rates were calculated for 371 counties of Iranand smoothed using Winbug 1.4 software with a full Bayesian method. Global Moran I and local Moran I were also used to investigate clustering. Results: According to the results, 75,644 new cases of cancer were nationally registered in Iran among which 18,019 cases (23.8%) were esophagus, gastric, colorectal, and liver cancers. The results of Global Moran's I test were 0.60 (P=0.001), 0.47 (P=0.001), 0.29 (P=0.001), and 0.40 (P=0.001) for esophagus, gastric, colorectal, and liver cancers, respectively. This shows clustering of the four studied cancers in Iran at the national level. Conclusions: High level clustering of the cases was seen in northern, northwestern, western, and northeastern areas for esophagus, gastric, and colorectal cancers. Considering liver cancer, high clustering was observed in some counties in central, northeastern, and southern areas.

  • To improve thermal environments in urban area, the structural characteristic analysis of thermal environments of the certain area should be preceded to analyze and supplement its problems. With Landsat-8, we measured the centrality estimation, the distribution map, and the spatial statistical analysis of Daegu Metropolitan City in January and August, which of data applied in analyzing the structure of thermal environments following to its spatial property. The thermal infrared band of satellite images has been used to analyze the standard normal deviated scores, which extract the centrality, while the cluster map, based upon Local Local Moran's I, has composed for understanding the autocorrelation of local spatial within environment space structure. Understanding the distribution features as well as the pivot center of thermal environments with satellite images provides principle database for updating urban thermal environments' policies and plans; because those are reference materials that should have precedence over for diverse thermal environment policies.
