  • In recent years, as many native English speakers are working in Asia to as English teachers, team teaching with local teachers has been commonly implemented within the Korean EFL classroom. Using qualitative case studies, this paper aims to explore native English-speaking teachers' (NESTs) perceptions of team teaching and their challenges at different secondary Korean schools. The study documents the challenges faced by three foreign teachers embedded in intercultural teaching teams. The data shows that common challenges include vague role distribution among teachers, problems presented by mixed levels of students, large classes, and students' low valuation during foreign teacher's classes, which go ungraded. The study calls for serious governmental efforts to change these fundamental problems and closely examine local factors that strongly affect team teaching practices before initiating a system of importing foreign teachers without proper preparation.

  • This study reviews recent changes in parenting support policy in Japan, and examines the roles and functions of day-nursery as the base for parenting support in the local community. The purpose of this study is to provide implications for the direction of the parenting support policy and child-care facilities for the local communities in South Korea. The analysis concentrates on the official national reports such as the Declining Birthrate White Paper and Japan's National Guidelines for Care and Education at Day Nursery by the Japanese Cabinet Office. The study finds that the Japanese government has introduced comprehensive medium and long-term policies for all the members of the community with recognizing the changes in the domestic and foreign child-rearing environments and social needs. These policies have also helped to improve the social awareness of parenting. The role of the day-care center has been raised as a significant part of the support for child-rearing in the local community due to the revision of the Child Welfare Act for nursery school teachers in 2001 and the official announcement of Japan's National Guidelines for Care and Education at Day Nursery in 2008. The study also concludes that the social responsibility of the nursery center has been strengthened by being utilized as a public resource for the community. From the findings, we can elicit the conclusions and implications that the roles and functions of child care centers as a significant base for parenting support in the local communities need to be considered. We also listen to the voices of stakeholders such as parents and staff of child care centers. Last but not least, we would understand the social role and importance of bringing up children by cooperation of the community members, and promote the role of child care centers as a central place providing and communicating information on child-rearing in the local communities.

Methods : By the result of this research on the current situation, the grade and allowance given to the Korean medicine doctors working at public health center were different every self-governing body. Results : The reason the Korean Medicine Doctor can't serve as a regular order of 5th grade is that the 'The Enforcement Regulation about Administrative Organization and the Standard of Pixed Number of person of Self-Governing Body(지방자치단체의 행정기구와 정원기준등에 관한 규정 시행규칙)' prescribes the number of regular order of 5th grade is regulated within 7% among the number of regular order officials. But not appointing to office as the regular order of 5th grade infringes on the Constitution, the highest law. The reason the Korean Medicine Doctors can't be appointed to office as the regular order officials by the self-governing body is that 'The Enforcement Order of the Law of Preservation of good health of Local Area(지역보건법시행령)' prescribes the Korean Medicine Doctors are not indispensable to Public Health Center. • We conducted a survey in collaboration with the Chungcheongbuk-do Office of Education to assess the current status of collections in public libraries affiliated with the Office of Education. The objective of this survey was to identify the current challenges and determine when these libraries are expected to reach a state of collection saturation. Libraries under the jurisdiction of the Chungcheongbuk-do Office of Education are currently facing significant challenges due to severe collection saturation. This underscores the pressing need for the systematic expansion and operation of a collaborative preservation library for a swift response. In the future, it appears that the focus during the transfer process will primarily be on transferring collection-oriented materials. Given the difficulty in providing preservation facilities at individual library levels, materials with preservation value, such as rare books and specialized resources, will need to be transferred to the collaborative preservation library. Additionally, the development of policies and regulations related to material preservation seems necessary. Furthermore, when transferring materials to the collaborative preservation library in the future, it appears that criteria for material transfer will be needed, particularly concerning issues such as a decrease in usage rates for less frequently accessed materials. Subsequent research should consider conducting a survey on the collection saturation status of public libraries under local governments in order to assess the overall need for collection expansion in all public libraries within Chungcheongbuk-do.

  • The purpose of this study is to propose a way to develop and disseminate the renewable energy technologies and industries in the local community. Fundamentally, the renewable energy is able to reduce environmental pollution and diminish a use of fossil-fuel energy in the local area. And it will lead to promoting regional sustainable energy in the future, as well as making contributions to local economic development. Above all, based on the environmental conservation project, including greening of the city and improving water quality, Daegu metropolitan city has launched a series of renewable energy projects, such as solar city programs and local energy plan. But, some problems still exist, due to the technological, economic and socio-political barriers. Thus, to encourage and disseminate a renewable energy in Daegu city, we need to examine a present condition on renewable energy and analyze constraint elements to prevent its distribution. Based on the results, we have to set the feasible strategy to develop and disseminate renewable energy in Daegu city and help it systematically integrate renewable energy technologies and industries into environmental economics and city planning. Ultimately, to achieve this purpose, we need to adopt the following policy measures: (1) establishment of a master plan for renewable energy; (2) interconnection between local development project and energy industry; (3) promotion of technological development; (4) inducement of and assistance to renewable energy industry; (5) fostering venture companies; (6) specializing Daegu's public office by energy-specific education programs. In particular, local entities including local company, consumers, policy-makers and citizen's groups have to pay attention to local energy plan for the regional sustainable energy future. These measures will lead to establishing an environmentally friendly and sustainable city.

  • In this era of information, the public library takes a important role in the local community. In several years, public libraries have been proliferated in our society. However, there have not been specific planning standards of space size for construction of public library. The situation has lead the local governments to the need of consulting for the construction and management of library in search of appropriate guideline. The research paper focuses on the result of consulting support project for construction and management of public library. It examines total 11 libraries which were consulted from 2009 to 2011. It examines the configurational differences between the first scheme from the local government and the final scheme after the consulting, and the percentages of gross areas of each parts of library, reference and reading area, office area, education and cultural area, and public common use area. The analysis concludes that reference and reading area increased by 6.4% from 34.1% to 40.5%, and public common use area reduced by 6.1% from 30.2% to 24.1%, which represents a certain tendency of the configuration ratio of the each parts. Thus, the paper could be a starting point of establishing planning standard of space size for public library.
