  • This thesis proposed a speed control system for induction motors robust to variations in torque and parameters by feedforward compensating the current portion of load torque, adding a load torque observer to the conventional PI controller in the indirect vector controlled induction motor system. In conclusion, this thesis demonstrate the improved transient characteristic to variations in reference speed and load torque, compared to the conventional PI control method, by means of the feedworward control of the estimated load torque.

  • This paper proposes a new fuzzy speed controller to precisely regulate the speed of a surface-mounted permanent magnet synchronous motor(SPMSM). The proposed fuzzy controller needs the knowledge of the load torque to realize its robust and accurate control, thus the first-order load torque observer is adopted to estimate it. It is analytically confirmed that the overall control system containing the fuzzy speed controller and the load torque observer is exponentially stable. To prove the validity of the proposed fuzzy speed controller, the simulation and experimental results are shown. It is concluded that the proposed control scheme can be employed to accurately control the speed of a SPMSM motor.

Comparison of steady and unsteady simulation methodologies for predicting no-load speed in Francis turbines

  • No-load speed is an important performance factor for the safe operation of hydropower systems. In turbine design, the manufacturers must conduct several model tests to calculate the accurate value of no-load speed for the complete range of operating conditions, which are expensive and time-consuming. The present study presents steady and unsteady methods for calculating no-load speed of a Francis turbine. The steady simulations are implemented using a commercial flow solver and an iterative algorithm that relies on a smooth relation between turbine torque and speed factor. The unsteady method uses unsteady RANS simulations that have been integrated with a user subroutine to compute and return the value of runner speed, time step and friction torque. The main goal of this research is to evaluate and compare the two methods by calculating turbine dynamic parameters for three test cases consisting of high and medium head Francis turbines. Overall, the numerical results agreed well with experimental data. The unsteady method provided more accurate results in the opening angle range from 20 to 26 degrees. Nevertheless, the steady results showed more consistency than unsteady results for the three different test cases at different operating conditions.

고속전철 가선계 가동 브래킷의 동적하중 계산 (Dynamic Load calculation at the Bracket of High Speed Train Catenary System)

  • The catenary system of a high speed train is designed to have a flexibility to ensure the contact with a pantograph during high speed running. The flexibility inevitably entails a vibration. The vibration is transferred to a utility pole through brackets. Therefore, the examination of the dynamic load at the bracket due to the train running is necessary for the design of the bracket. In this research, an equation of motion is derived to calculate the dynamic load at the bracket during high speed running and a computer program is developed. Also, the analyzed results are compared to characterize the dynamic load at the bracket.

STS316 용사코팅의 마모거동에 미치는 작용하중 및 미끄럼속도의 영향 (Effect of Applied Load and Sliding Speed on Wear Behavior of Thermally Sprayed STS316 Coating)

  • This article aims at investigating the effect of applied load and sliding speed on wear behavior of thermally spraryed STS316 coating. STS316 coatings were fabricated by flame spray process according to optimal parameters on steel substrates. Dry sliding wear tests were performed on STS316 coating using four different applied load as 10, 15, 20 and 25 N and four different sliding speed as 15, 30, 45 and 60 rpm. Wear behavior on worn surface was investigated using scanning electron microscope(SEM) and energy disperive X-ray spectroscopy(EDS). The dominant wear mechanism of STS316 coating under low applied load and sliding speed was oxidation on worn surface. However, under high applied load and sliding speed the principal wear mechanism was abrasion on oxidation film and damage of oxidation film.

  • Smoke, Hydrocarbon and Garbon Monoxide emissions of concern in environmental pollution on AVDS-170-2D diesel engine were studied experimentally and past studies on emissions of diesel engine were investigate. Engine speed and load were considered as variable factors influencing the emissions. The test results of a multicylinder, direct injection and turblcharged 4 cycle diesel engine were compared with past studies. Both emission levels of experimental study and past studies were markedly influenced by engine operation factors. The results obtained in this study can be summarized as follows; 1) Smoke intensity is proportional to engine load and varies with engine speed. 2) Hydrocarbon and nitric oxides emissions vary with engine speed and load. 3) Garbon monoxide emission is insensitive to engine speed and varies with engine load.

  • 유압 인버터 엘리베이터의 비선형성과 유압 펌프의 누유량으로 인한 진동 및 속도 편차를 줄이기 위한 부하 보상 및 속도 제어기를 제안하였다. 부하보상 제어기는 PI제어기로 구성하였으며 속도제어기는 PID 제어기를 이용하여 구성하였다. 제어기 제어 변수 이득은 시스템 전달함수의 주파수 응답 방법을 이용하였다. 제안한 제어기의 효용성은 실험을 통해 입증하였고 실험 결과 제안한 제어기는 부하 변동에 강인하고 비선형인 유압 엘리베이터 시스템에 안정하고 좋은 속도 및 가속도 응답 특성을 갖는다.

  • There are many kinds of motors operating by rated voltage which is constant. In this paper, the characteristics of separately excited direct current motor is analyzed when its terminal voltage is varied as its load current. As for this source, direct current generator of a series field is used, and it is driven at constant speed by a primemover. The induced voltage of the generator is propotional to its load current but it saturates as its load current is large. The charateristics of motor is studied by analog computer because of the nonlinearity of generator. The results are as follows: (1) The load current and the rotor speed of motor increase as the load of motor increases. But the speed of rotor decreases for the influence of the saturation of the iron of generator field when its load current is large. (2) Decreasing the inertia of motor and increasing the inductance of the armature circuit improve the stability of motor and the region of stable state. (3) By changing the field current of the motor, the speed and the direction of rotor can be controlled in wide range.

  • 본 논문은 유도전동기의 센서리스 속도제어기에 대한 연구이다. 유도전동기의 속도의 제어방법은 자속추정을 위한 기준모델로써 부하-토크 관측기를 이용한 MRAS(Model Reference Adaptive System)를 기초로 하였으며, 전형적인 MRAS 제어기 특성의 속도응답은 부하 토크 외란의 변화에 영향을 미친다. 따라서 제안된 시스템에서의 부하-토크 관측기를 사용한 속도제어 특성은 부하 토크 외란에 의한 영향을 받지 않는다. 이러한 제어 알고리즘을 MATLAB의 SIMULINK를 통해 전체 시스템을 모델링하여 시뮬레이션 한 결과는 유도 전동기의 다양한 부하 구동 적용에 대한 슬라이딩 속도 제어기의 효과적인 개선이 되었음을 알 수 있었다. 그러므로 이러한 제어 방법들이 산업 응용분야에 확대되어 적용되었으면 한다.

  • The sensorless speed control technique for BLDCM using digital IP control is proposed in this paper for advanced speed characteristic which is robust for loads. The sensorless drive of BLDCM using terminal voltages is affected by load or speed because it uses analog filters to estimate the rotor position. For this reason, the robust speed controller with the accurate rotor position estimator is needed for sensorless control which is robust to load and insensitive to motor parameters. The constant speeds robust to load variation and the stable sensorless control of BLDCM robust to the increase or decrease of speed with constant load are implemented using digital IP control in this paper. The validity to these is established with experimentation.
