Nonlinear numerical analysis and proposed equation for axial loading capacity of concrete filled steel tube column with initial imperfection

  • The use of concrete filled steel tube (CFST) column is widely accepted due to its property of high axial load carrying capacity, more ductility and more resistant to earthquake specially using in bridges and high-rise buildings. The initial imperfection (δ) that produces during casting or fixing causes the reduction in load carrying capacity, this is the reason, experimental capacity is always less then theoretical one. In this research, the effect of δ on load carrying capacity and behavior of concrete filled steel tube (CFST) column have been investigated by numerically simulation of large number of models with different δ and other geometric parameters that include length (L), width (B), steel tube thickness (t), f'c and fy. Finite element analysis software ANSYS v18 is used to develop model of SCFST column to evaluate strength capacity, buckling and failure pattern of member which is applied during experimental study under cyclic axial loading. After validation of results, 42 models with different parameters are evaluated to develop empirical equation predicting axial load carrying capacity for different value of δ. Results indicate that empirical equation shows the 0 to 9% error for finite element analysis Forty-two models in comparison with ANSYS results, respectively. Empirical equation can be used for predicting the axial capacity of early estimating the axial capacity of SCFT column including 𝛿.

  • This study is aimed to investigate the effect of load and deflection on steel fiber reinforced concrete slab. Slabs were made with Hooked and Straight types steel fiber and compared a change of steel fiber contents and fiber types. Test were carried out to evaluate he first crack load, maximum load and deflection of slab. At the result, the first crack load, maximum load and energy absorption capacity were increased remarkably as steel fiber contents wee increased. And we found that the deflection of slab at same load ere decreased as steel fiber contents were increased, too. As the aspect ration was increased, the first crack load, maximum load and energy absorption capacity were increased.

  • The main drawback of parallel type active power filters (APF) is the large capacity required for harmonic compensation. This paper evaluates the APF capacity requirement of harmonic/reactive power compensation for thyristor converter load. Theoretically achievable maximum power factor under partial load is evaluated. And it is shown that the APF capacity can be considerably reduced while slightly sacrificing the filtering performance by deliberately limiting the peak current of the APF.

사질토 지반에서 시멘트밀크 주입비에 따른 매입말뚝의 수평지지력 (The Lateral Load Capacity of Bored-Precast Pile Depending on Injecting Ratio of Cement Milk in Sand)

  • 매입말뚝의 수평저항 특성을 고찰하기 위하여 매입말뚝에 대한 수평재하시험을 실시하여 수평하중과 수평변위관계를 분석하였다. 말뚝수평재하시험은 시멘트 밀크가 말뚝매입길이의 50%, 70%, 100%로 주입된 6개의 말뚝에 대하여 실시하였다. 시멘트 밀크의 주입비(시멘트 밀크 주입길이/말뚝의 길이)는 매입말뚝의 수평변위, 항복하중, 수평지지력에 큰 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 시멘트 밀크의 주입비가 증가할수록 매입말뚝의 수평변위가 발생되기 시작하는 위치는 지표면에 가까워지며 말뚝의 수평변위는 감소한다. 그리고 말뚝의 수평지지력과 항복하중은 시멘트 밀크 주입비가 증가할 수록 크게 나타났다. 시멘트 밀크 주입비가 1인 매입말뚝의 항복하중과 극한수평지지력은 시멘트 밀크 주입비가 0.5인 경우보다 약 2~3배 정도 크게 나타났다.

스퀴즈 효과를 고려한 사판식 피스톤 펌프 홀더의 그루브 유무에 따른 부하특성에 대한 연구 (A Study on the Load Characteristics of a Swash Plate Piston Pump Holder (Cradle) with Grooves Considering the Squeeze Effect)

  • The load characteristics of a piston pump holder due to the squeeze effect are influenced by the surface shape and gap thickness of the holder (cradle). Therefore, the pressure distribution and the load capacity of the piston pump holder due to the squeeze effect are studied by using the CFD software and the surface shape and gap thickness of the piston pump holder are considered. In order to verify the accuracy of numerical results, the load capacities of a circular plate holder are numerically studied, and the accuracy of numerical results is verified by comparing with the theoretical results. Also, the pressure distribution and load capacity of the rectangular plate holder of a piston pump are obtained by using the CFD software. The results show that the load capacity of the square plate holder with grooves is slightly higher at a low gap thickness, but the effects of the number and arrangement of grooves on the load capacity of the holder are weak. We conclude that the load capacity and the maximum pressure are slightly affected due to the existence of grooves on the holder surface, and the fluid storing effect of the holder surface grooves during the operation is likely to prevent the dry-sticking phenomenon.

  • This paper presents the analysis of the load transfer capacity and study of conductor size for variable contingencies in distribution systems. The operation capacity of feeders was changed to improve operation efficiency in KEPCO, considerations for contingencies are still based on the previous capacity. In order to cope with the changes such as operation capacity, it is necessary to study whether the present "contingency support criteria" is reasonable or not, also to confirm the whether the present criteria should be improved or not. We analyze the load transfer capacity and conductor size on a distribution system for contingency levels such as the substation-level, bank-level, feeder-level, and zone-level.one-level.

대구경 현장타설말뚝의 대용량 양방향 말뚝재하시험 분석 및 극한지지력 추정을 위한 수치해석 연구 (A Numerical Analysis Study for Estimation of Ultimate Bearing Capacity and An Analysis of the High Capacity Bi-directional Pile Load Tests of the Large-diameter Drilled Shafts)

  • 초고층 건축물 기초의 고용량 하중 지지능력을 확인할 수 있는 가장 현실적인 방안인 고유압방식의 고용량 양방향 말뚝재하시험을 2개 현장에서 실시하였다. 고유압 복동식 양방향 말뚝재하시험은 정재하시험 시 재하용량 한계와 현장조건의 제약을 극복 할 수 있는 가장 현실적인 방안으로 볼 수 있었으며 고용량이 필요한 시험말뚝에 대한 재하시험에 매우 유용한 시험방법으로 판단되었다. 2개의 사례에서 계산된 설계하중 충족비는 각각 3.3, 2.1이었으므로 사례(P-2)에서 1방향 재하하중을 다소 작게 재하하였더라면 말뚝기초의 안정성을 실증적으로 확인하지 못하였을 것으로 판단되었다. 초고용량의 양방향 말뚝재하시험에서 설정한 최대하중까지 재하하더라도 말뚝 및 지반의 극한상태를 확인하는 것은 쉽지 않았으므로 대구경 현장타설말뚝의 극한지지력을 추정하기 위하여 2개의 고용량 대구경 현장타설말뚝에 대한 수치해석을 실시하였다.

Studies on T-Shaped composite columns consist of multi separate concrete-filled square tubular steel sections under eccentric axial load

  • In order to investigate mechanical properties and load-bearing capacity of T-shaped Concrete-Filled Square Steel Tubular (TCFST) composite columns under eccentric axial load, three T-shaped composite columns were tested under eccentric compression. Experimental results show that failure mode of the columns under eccentric compression was bending buckling of the whole specimen, and mono column performs flexural buckling. Specimens behaved good ductility and load-bearing capacity. Nonlinear finite element analysis was also employed in this investigation. The failure mode, the load-displacement curve and the ultimate bearing capacity of the finite element analysis are in good agreement with the experimental ones. Based on eccentric compression test and parametric finite element analysis, the calculation formula for the equivalent slenderness ratio was proposed and the bearing capacity of TCFST composite columns under eccentric compression was calculated. Results of theoretical calculation, parametric finite element analysis and eccentric compression experiment accord well with each other, which indicates that the theoretical calculation method of the bearing capacity is advisable.

  • 도심지의 토지 이용률을 높이기 위하여 상대적으로 단면이 작은 원형 강교각의 건설이 요구되고 있다. 이때 줄어든 단면으로 인해 감소된 좌굴내하력을 높이는 방안으로 수직보강재의 적용을 고려할 수 있다. 그러나 수직보강재를 적용함으로써 얻어질 수 있는 좌굴내하력의 증가효과는 아직 명확하지 않다. 본 연구에서는 기하학적, 재료학적 비선형을 고려한 탄소성 유한요소해석을 수행하여 원형강교각의 반지름-두께비에 따른 수직보강재의 수가 좌굴내하력에 미치는 영향을 명확히 하였다. 또한, 수직보강재의 폭과 두께, 원형강교각의 세장비에 따른 좌굴해석을 수행하여 그 관계를 명확히 하였다.

Load-carrying capacity degradation of reinforced concrete piers due to corrosion of wrapped steel plates

  • Two-dimensional elastoplastic finite element formulation is employed to investigate the load- carrying capacity degradation of reinforced concrete piers wrapped with steel plates due to occurrence of corrosion at the pier base. By comparing with experimental results, the employed finite element analysis method is verified to be accurate. After that, a series of parametric studies are conducted to investigate the effect of corrosion ratio and corrosion mode of steel plates located near the base of in-service pier P2 on load-carrying capacity of the piers. It is observed that the load-carrying capacity of the piers decreases with the increase in corrosion ratio of steel plates. There exists an obvious linear relationship between the load-carrying capacity and the corrosion ratio in the case of even corrosion mode. The degradation of load-carrying capacity resulted from the web's uneven corrosion mode is more serious than that under even corrosion mode, and the former case is more liable to occur than the latter case in actual engineering application. Finally, the failure modes of the piers under different corrosion state are discussed. It is found that the principal tensile strain of concrete and yield range of steel plates are distributed within a wide range in the case of slight corrosion, and they are concentrated on the column base when complete corrosion occurs. The findings obtained from the present study can provide a useful reference for the maintenance and strengthening of the in-service piers.
