Natural gas vehicles are being applied to city buses for improving air quality in metropolitan and have proved the effective way to reduce the pollutant emissions. Liquified Natural Gas(LNG) has also attempted a vehicle fuel in order to raise the fuel storage density that is a disadvantage of Compressed Natural Gas(CNG). This paper described insulation characteristic of a LNG storage tank. From the results, adiabatic coefficient of a tested tank was around $40J/h{\cdot}^{\circ}C{\cdot}m^2$ and it was the lower level than gas safety regulation limit. Two experimental methods were adopted to justify the evaluation results and they were revealed that the results were very similar to each other. Also, through testing relief valve operation characteristic it was investigated venting amount of boiled off gas.

The need for storage and transportation facilities of liquefied natural gas have increased significantly because of global environmental regulations and recent shale gas innovation in North America. There is severe competition between Korea, Japan, and China for receiving manufacturing orders of LNG carriers or LNG storage tanks. Rationalization of the welding process used in the manufacturing of LNG facilities plays an important role in the above competition. This review paper presents the current global status and tendency for the development of latest welding technologies for LNG storage and transportation facilities. This article intends to present materials for raising the domestic competitive power for receiving manufacturing orders of LNG facilities.

Highly accurate control of the air-fuel ratio is important to reduce exhaust gas emissions of the gaseous-fuel engines. In order to achieve this purpose, inlet air mass flow must be measured exactly, and precise engine models are necessary to design engine control systems. In this paper, the effects of water vapor and gaseous fuel that change the air mass flow are studied. The effective air mass ratio is defined as the air mass flow divided by the mixture mass flow, and also it is applied to the estimation of the inlet air mass flow. The presence of the gaseous fuel and the water vapor in the mixture reduces the air partial pressure and the effective air mass ratio of the gaseous-fuel engines. The Experimental results for an LPG engine show that the estimation of the inlet ai mass flow based upon the effective air mass ratio is more accurate than that of the normal air mass flow.
During the transportation of chemicals, quantitative risk assessment for chemical leakage accidents caused by traffic accidents was carried out and the appropriateness of chemical transportation route was evaluated. The quantitative risk assessment method applied to the chemical leakage accidents that may occur in the chemical handling equipments installed in the workplace was presented and applied to the chemical transportation. By analyzing the number of traffic accidents in transportation vehicles, the probability of chemical leakage accidents during chemical transportation was predicted and applied to the quantitative risk assessment of chlorine gas leakage accidents that may occur when transporting liquified chlorine bombe using vehicles. As a result, the most appropriate route of transporting the liquefied chlorine bombe was suggested on the basis of risk.
Even in non-road UTV (Utility Terrain Vehicle), spark ignition engines are often used to reduce emissions. In this study, gasoline and LPG (Liquified Petroleum Gas) fuels were applied to UTV engines, and the exhaust gas and combustion stability were compared through engine tests. A 0.8-liter two-cylinder SI engine was used in the experiment. Experiments were conducted while changing the IVO (Intake Valve Open) and EVC (Exhaust Valve Close) at 1500 rpm 14 N·m, 40 N·m, and 3000 rpm 17 N·m, 44 N·m conditions. As a result of the experiment, when the valve overlap increased according to the change of IVO and EVC, combustion stability decreased and THC emission increased, but NOx decreased. Comparing the LPG engine with the gasoline engine, the amount of CO2 and PN (Particulate Number) generation decreased in the LPG engine, and the combustion stability was good.
This paper is an attempt to give a concise overview of the state-of-the-art in the recent liquid hydrogen safety researches with unwanted event progress. The vessel of liquified hydrogen may fail and liquid hydrogen spilled. The hydrogen will immediately start to evaporate above a pool and make a hydrogen cloud. The cloud will disperse and can produce a vapor cloud explosion. The vessel containing the liquid hydrogen may not be able to cope with the boil-off due to heat influx, especially in case of a fire, and a BLEVE may occur. In equipment where it exists as compressed gas, a leak generates a jet of gas that can self-ignite immediately or after a short delay and produce a jet flame, or in case it ignites at a source a certain distance from the leak (delayed ignition), a flash fire occurs in the open and with confinement a deflagration or even detonation may develop. The up-to-date knowledge in these events, recent progress and future research are discussed in brief.

Through the Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy, South Korea is trying to support the "Building Project for Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) Bunkering Ship," centered on the Korea Gas Corporation, while the Ministry of Maritime Af airs and Fisheries is pushing to construct an LNG bunkering terminal at Busan New Port. LNG bunkering ships are essential for supplying LNG fuel from the terminal to the ships, resulting in the need for safety operation procedures. Therefore, in this study, the stability of a coastal LNG bunkering ship operating from Busan New Port to the anchorage in Busan Port was assessed to investigate the need for operational procedures for coastal LNG bunkering ships. Seakeeping analysis of the LNG bunkering ship was performed for each significant wave height by combining the response amplitude operator from the ship motion analysis under the potential flow theory with the actual observed sea data for five years and Texel, Marsen, and Arsloe (TMA) spectrum suitable for the Busan coast. The results showed that the roll and horizontal acceleration were the main risks that affected the navigation seakeeping performance above a significance wave height of 2 m. The operational periods of the LNG bunkering ship ranged from 83.3% to 99.9% of the total observation period.

To analyze the characteristics of ozone formation, measurements of the concentrations of individual exhaust hydrocarbon species have been made under various engine operating parameters in a 2-liter 4-cylinder engine for natural gas and LPG. Tests were performed at constant engine speed, 1800 rpm for two compression ratios of 8.6 and 10.6, with various operating parameters, such as excess air ratio of 1.0~1.6, bmep of 250~800 na and spark timing of BTDC 10~$55^{\circ}$. It was found that the natural gas gave the less ozone formation than LPG in various operating conditions. This was accomplished by reducing the emissions of propylene($C_3H_6$), which has relatively high maximum incremental reactivity factor, and propane($C_3H_8$) that originally has large portion of LPG. In addition, the natural gas show lower values in the specific reactivity and brake specific reactivity. Higher compression ratio of the test engine showed higher non methane HC emissions. However, specific reactivity value decreased since fuel species of HC emissions increase. brake specific reactivity showed almost same values under high bmep, over 500kPa for both fuels. This means that the increase of non methane HC emissions and the decrease of specific reactivity with higher bmep affect each other simultaneously. With advanced spark timing, brake specific reactivity values of LPG were increased while those of natural gas showed almost constant values.
Korea Gas Corporation(KOGAS) is a Liquified Natural Gas(LNG) supplier through out the Korea. LNG, which is imported wholly from foreign countries, is compressed 1/600 for easy transportation and is stored in a liquid state in the storage tanks at Incheon, Pyeongtaek and Tongyeong. At LNG receiving terminals, LNG is vaporized to natural gas before supplying to City Gas Consumer or Power Plant. The secondary pump is a equipment which compress LNG from $10 kgf/cm^2$ to $70 kgf/cm^2$. The secondary pump at Tongyeong LNG receiving terminal is consisted of two pumps in one underground PIT, and is connected to supporting structures. It is therefore expected that there is a vibration problem with the pump and was found that high level vibration was occurred in a low frequency band(5${\~}$10Hz). In this paper, the vibration of secondary pump was analyzed, and the main cause of vibration was found out.
To acquire the safety along with durability of mechanical machinery products, we should consider the structural mechanics such as stress, deformation and dynamic vibration characteristics and identify those important aspects in the stage of preliminary design engineering. This cryogenic ball valve is used to transfer the liquified natural gas which temperature is $-196^{\circ}C$, supplied pressure is $168kg/cm^2$. For the cryogenic ball valve, the assurance of structural integrity and operability are essential to meet not only normal, abnormal loading conditions but also functionality during a seismic event. In this thesis, analytical approach and results using finite element analysis and computational method are herein presented to evaluate the aspects of structural integrity along with operability of cryogenic ball valve. In this study, we designed the high pressure cryogenic ball valve that accomplishes zero leakage by elastic seal at normal temperature and metal seal at high temperature.
