  • Flat plumbing basket surfaces of links were introduced to study the geometry of the complement of the links. In present article, we study links of the flat plumbing basket numbers 4 or less using a special presentation of the flat plumbing basket surfaces. We find a complete classification theorem of links of the flat plumbing basket numbers 4 or less.

  • The length of the links in an eccentrically braced frame will dictate the behavior of the frame. Link length controls the yielding mechanism and the ultimate failure mode. For short links, the links' shear forces reach the plastic shear capacity before the end moments reach the plastic moment capacity, and the links yields in the shear, forming a shear hinges. These links are termed "shear links." For long links, the end moments reach the plastic moment capacity before the links' shear forces reach the plastic shear capacity, forming moment hinges. These links are termed moment links." In long links, flexural yielding dominates the response, and very high bending strains are required at the link ends to produce large link deformations. In a shear links, the shear force is constant along the length of the links, and the inelastic shear strain are is uniformly distributed over the length of the links. This permits the development of large inelastic link deformations without the development of excessively high local strains. However, The use of eccentrically braced steel frames for the purpose of architectural cionsiderations such as openings and doors, areis dictating the use of longer links, though. Little data areis available on the behavior of long links under cyclic loading conditions. In This paper documents the results of an experimental program is that was conducted to assess the response of moment links in eccentrically braced frames. Sixteen specimens awere tested using a cyclic load.

  • To analyze the enzyme reaction on DNA knots and links, we study tangle embedding and the number of reaction. By using the quantum SU(3) invariant of knots and links we get a necessary condition for a tangle to be embedded in a knot or link. Moreover we give a relationship between the number of reactions and the changes of the value of quantum SU(3) invariant for the corresponding knots and links in a processive recombination.

  • Various types of social media make the people share their personal experience in different ways. In some social networking sites. Some users post their reviews, some users can support these reviews with comments, and some users just rate the reviews as kind of support or not. Unfortunately, there is rare explicit negative comments towards other reviews. This means if there is a link between two users, it must be positive link. Apparently, the negative link is invisible in these social network. Or in other word, the negative links are redundant to positive links. In this work, we first discuss the feature extraction from social media data and propose new method to compute the distance between each pair of comments or reviews on social media. Then we investigate whether we can predict negative links via regression analysis when only positive links are manifested from social media data. In particular, we provide a principled way to mathematically incorporate multi-facet data in a novel framework, Constructing Negative Links, CsNL to predict negative links for discovering the hidden information. Additionally, we investigate the ways of solution to general negative link predication problems with CsNL and its extension. Experiments are performed on real-world data and results show that negative links is predictable with multi-facet of social media data by the proposed framework CsNL. Essentially, high prediction accuracy suggests that negative links are redundant to positive links. Further experiments are performed to evaluate coefficients on different kernels. The results show that user generated content dominates the prediction performance of CsNL.

  • Objective: The aim of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness and efficiency of causal links between various error causes in human error analysis. Background: As finding root causes of human error in safety-critical systems is often a cognitively demanding and time-consuming task, it is particularly necessary to develop a method for improving both the quality and efficiency of the task. Although a few methods such as CREAM have suggested causal linking between error causes as a means to enhance the quality and efficiency of human error analysis, no published research to date has evaluated the performance of the causal links. Method: The performance of the CREAM links between error causes were evaluated with 80 railway accident investigation reports from the UK. From each report, errorneous actions of operators were derived, and for each error, candidate causes were found by following the predefined links. Two measures, coverage and selectivity, were used to evaluate the effectiveness and efficiency of the links, respectively. Results: On average, 96% of error causes actually included in the accident reports were found by following the causal links, and among the total of 121 possible error causes, the number of error causes to be examined further was reduced to one-tenth on average. As an additional result of this work, frequent error causes and frequently used links are provided. Conclusion: This result implies that the predefined causal links between error causes can significantly reduce the time and effort required to find the multiple levels of error causes and their causal relations without losing the quality of the results. Application: The CREAM links can be applied to human error analysis in any industry with minor modifications.

  • We proposed a simple and efficient routing protocol designed specifically for multi-hop ad-hoc networks. The proposed protocol is composed of the two routing tables which work together to allow nodes to send and receive packets. All aspects of the protocol can be operated on networks entirely consisting bidirectional links and networks with unidirectional links. Finding unidirectional link is embedded in the routing protocol since we considered not only bidirectional links but also unidirectional links when we developed a routing method.

  • In this study, we present an approach for reducing the information inaccuracy of existing star aggregation based on bypass links when there are multi-constraint QoS parameters in asymmetric networks. In our approach, bypass links with low similarity are selected. Links that are not chosen as bypass links are included in each group depending on the star's link characteristics. Moreover, each link group is aggregated differently according to the similarity of the links that make up the group. The selection of a bypass link by using link similarity reduces the existing time complexity of O($N^3$) to O(N) by virtue of the simplification of the selection process. In addition, the adaptive integration according to the characteristics of the links in each group is designed to reduce the information inaccuracy caused by static aggregation. Simulation results show that the proposed method maintains low information distortion; specifically, it is 3.8 times lower than that of the existing method, even when the number of nodes in a network increases.

  • This paper presents the study of the bending behavior of mooring chain links for keeping the position of the offshore floating structures. In general, chain links have been thought as the axial members due to the fundamental boundary condition. But, the flexural stiffness can be induced to the contact surface between chain links when friction occurs at the surface of the chain links due to high tensile force. Especially, the mooring chains for offshore floating platforms are highly tensioned. If the floater suffers rotational motion and the mooring chain links are highly tensioned, the rotation between contact links, induced by the floater rotation, generates the bending moment and relevant stresses due to the unexpected bending stiffness. In 2005, the mooring chain links for the Girassol Buoy Platform were failed after just 5 months after facility installation, and the accident investigation research concluded the chain failure was mainly caused by the fatigue due to the unexpected bending stress fluctuation. This study investigates the pattern of the induced bending stiffness and stresses of the highly tensioned chain links by nonlinear finite element analysis.

  • The vehicle stabilizer link is one of the suspension components that reduces the bumping and rolling during vehicle driving. However, this stabilizer link could be a source of the abnormal noises when its free gaps have higher than normal values. Therefore, the current study aims at investigating the quantitative relationships between the abnormal noises and free gaps of the vehicle stabilizer links, as well as the length of time that the vehicle stabilizer links could be used without generating abnormal noises. In this study, the abnormal noises were measured based on the magnitude of the stabilizer link vibration, while the free gaps were quantified through the force-displacement curves of the stabilizer links. Harsh durability tests were also conducted in order to quantify the operating cycles of the stabilizer links before generating the abnormal noises, along with the concomitant measurements of the free gaps. The current results showed that the abnormal noises of the stabilizer links were detected when its free gaps were larger than 0.12 mm. However, the free gaps of the stabilizer links, which are bigger than 0.1 mm, produced the abnormal noises at 1.5 million cycles under harsh durability test conditions. A parametric study in the future that would reflect the different shapes and sizes of the stabilizer links for diverse vehicles could determine more generalized relationships between the abnormal noises and free gaps of the vehicle stabilizer links.
