  • This paper presents a study on the fuzzy linguistic variable based approach for safety assessment of human body in ELF electromagnetic field considering power system states. To cope with the demand in modern industry, the power system becomes larger in scale, higher in voltage. The advent of high voltage system has increased the relative importance of field effects. The analysis of ELF electromagnetic field based on Quasi-Static Method is introduced while the power system is included to model the expected and/or unexpected uncertainty caused by the load fluctuation and parameter changes. In order to analyze the power system, Monte Carlo simulation method and contingency analysis method are adopted in normal state and alert state, respectively. In the safety assessment of human body, the approach based on fuzzy linguistic variable is employed to overcome the shortcomings resulting from a crisp set concept. The suggested scheme is applied to a sample system(modified IEEE 14 bus system) to validate the usefulness.

  • Many studies have been done in the field of fuzzy logic theory, but it's application is not so much, and particularly, there isn't any application to the ship's steering system, until now. This paper is to survey the effect of application of fuzzy logic control to the ship's steering system. The controller is made up of a set of Linguistic Control Rules which are conditional linguistic statements connecting the inputs and the output, and take the inputs derived from the errors, that is, deviation angle and it's angular velocity. These two variables together give information about the state of the steering system, and the Linguistic Control Rules are implemented on the digital computer. The characteristics of this system were investigated through the computer simulation and satisfactory results compared with that of the conventional PD controller were obtained.

  • Many studies have been done in the field of fuzzy logic theory, but it's application to the ship's steering system is few until this date. This paper is to survey the effect of application of fuzzy logic control by new compositional rule of Inference to the ship's steering system. The controller is made up of a set of Linguistic Control Rules which are conditional linguistic statements connecting the inputs and output, and take the inputs derived from deviation angle and it's angular velocity. The Linguistic Control Rules are implemented on the digital computer to verify the performance of the fuzzy logic controller and simulations have been done in six cases of initial condition and disturbance type. Consequently, it was proved that the ship's steering system by introducing the F.L.C. is performed efficiently and less energy loss system compared with the conventional autopilot.

  • Korean linguistic information for the generation modulo of KANT(Knowledge-based Accurate Natural language Translation) system was constructed. As KANT has a language-independent generation engine, the construction of Korean linguistic information means the development of the Korean generation module. Constructed information includes concept-based mapping rules, category-based mapping rules, syntactic lexicon, template rules, grammar rules based on the unification grammar, lexical rules and rewriting rules for Korean. With these information in sentences were successfully and completely generated from the interlingua functional structures among the 118 test set prepared by the developers of KANT system.

  • In recent years, many organizations have been constructing their own large corpora to achieve corpus representativeness. However, there is no reliable guideline as to how large corpus resources should be compiled, especially for Korean corpora. In this study, we have contrived a new statistical model, ARIMA (Autoregressive Integrated Moving Average), for predicting the relationship between linguistic items (the number of types) and corpus size (the number of tokens), overcoming the major flaws of several previous researches on this issue. Finally, we shall illustrate that the ARIMA model presented is valid, accurate and very reliable. We are confident that this study can contribute to solving some inherent problems of corpus linguistics, such as corpus predictability, corpus representativeness and linguistic comprehensiveness.

  • The interests in Machine Translation(MT) have gotten revitalized lately with the rapid expansion of internet users. MT technology has gone through several different stages of development, but the longest surviving methods usually maintains the following characteristics: the expand ability and flexibility based on proved linguistic formalism, the transfer method of translation, the continued efforts of systematic updates being made into the system. This paper introduces one such system, L&H Korean-English bidirectional MT system. This system uses Lexical-Functional Grammar as its linguistic framework. It also adopts the transfer method of MT and has been around on the market for over 10 years for other language pairs. Currently, the system covers over 10 different languages including Chinese, Japanese and Arabic, in addition to European languages. This paper will review the system in its core and discuss related tools and resources be ing used to enhance the quality of translation.

  • In this paper, we focus on the building domain ontology from corpus by extracting concepts and properties relationships based on linguistic patterns. The pharmacy field is selected as an experiment domain and we present an algorithm to extract hierarchical structure for terminology based on the noun/suffix patterns of terminology in domain texts. In order to show usefulness of our domain ontology, we compare a typical keyword based retrieval method with an ontology based retrieval mettled which uses related information in an ontology for a related feedback. As a result, our method shows the improvement of precision by 4.97% without losing recall.

  • This article introduces the texts of Manchu shamanistic prayers recorded in a manuscript by Sergei A. Polevoi, a Russian and an American Sinologist from the first part of the twentieth century. The Manchu original text of these prayers (but not the Polevoi's variant) was recently published by Ye (2018), which, however lacks detailed linguistic analysis. Polevoi's texts are in the slightly outdated romanization of Manchu with no linguistic analysis, translation, and commentary that are provided below by the author. While this publication will be of minor interest to the specialists on Manchu shamanism, it would be important to linguists specializing in the Manchu and Tungusic languages and philology, as the text reflects in all probability the eighteenth century Manchu preserved in romanization, and, therefore priceless for the linguistic analysis.

  • This study aims to apply corpus-based approach to analyze The Yellow Wall-Paper and Herland written by Charlotte Perkins Gilman, a women's rights activist in the late nineteenth-century America. Although both works have attracted feminists' attention to the woman question that concerned Gilman, discussion on her language features and their relation to the literary themes of these two works is still in need. In this corpus-based analysis, we argue that the main themes of different literary works can be revealed through linguistic patterns identified by number and gender features of nouns and pronouns in the contrast of two works and a balanced corpus. The linguistic features (number and gender) have been related with two themes, the 'group and individual' and the 'feminine and masculine', and are further interpreted in terms of mothering and feminine consciousness. By adopting linguistic approach, our study provides quantitative and qualitative evidence to verify the established themes and arguments of these literary texts.

  • In this paper, I would like to reconsider the evidential category (or the mediation category) in languages with language specific values, especially in Korean and French evidentials. We tried to analyze how the evidentials are represented in both languages including their linguistic markers (grammatical, lexical or discursive) and their semantic meanings. According to the precedent studies from the general linguistic point of view, we would like to reconsider the semantic meanings of both languages' grammatical markers, the so-called Korean retrospective marker '-te-' and French conditionals in the framework of the enunciative operation theory suggested by $Descl{\acute{e}}s$ & $Guentch{\acute{e}}va$ (2000), which proposed to classify the type of discourse by the language-independent description tools conceived after the enunciation theory suggested by Bally (1965), Benveniste (1956), Culioli (1973). Through this approach, we would like to contribute to establishing the linguistic basis not only for the general linguistic research to determine the invariant meaning of linguistic evidentials and their system, but also for the applied linguistics to the language engineering field.
