  • We propose a disturbance observer(DOB) based feedback linearization control to improve position tracking performance in the presence of disturbance. The proposed method consists of a disturbance observer and a feedback linearization controller. The disturbance observer is designed to estimate the load force disturbance in electro-hydraulic systems. An auxiliary state variable is proposed in order to avoid amplification of the measurement noises in the disturbance observer. Using the estimated disturbance enables the Electro-hydraulic servo systems(EHS) dynamics to be changed into feedback linearization from. In order to compensate for the disturbance and to track the desired position, the feedback linearization based controller is proposed. The proposed method has a simple structure which can easily be implemented in practice. As a result, the proposed method improves the position tracking performance in the presence of disturbance. Its performance is validated via simulations.

  • This paper proposes a novel linearization method for Takagi.sugeno (TS) fuzzy model. A T-S fuzzy controller consists of linear controllers based on local linear models and the local linear controllers cannot be designed independently because of overall stability conditions which are usually conservative. To use linear control theories easily for T-S fuzzy system, the linearization of T-S fuzzy model is required. However, The linearization of T-S fuzzy model is difficult to be achieved by using existing linearization methods because fuzzy rules and membership functions are included in T-S fuzzy models. So, a new linearization method is proposed for the T-S fuzzy system based on the idea of T-S fuzzy state transformation. For the T-S fuzzy system linearized with uncertainties, a robust optimal controller with the robustness of sliding model control(SMC) is designed.

  • Methods of nonlinear stochastic analysis of guyed towers are studied in this paper. Two different kinds of nonlinearities are considered. They are the nonlinear restoring force from the guying system and the nonlinear hydrodynamic force. Analyses are carried out mainly in the frequency domain using linearization techniques. Two methods for the linearization of the nonlinear stiffness are presented, in which the effects of the steady offset and the oscillating component of the structural motion can be adequately analyzed. those two methods are the equivalent linearization method and the average stiffness method. The linearization of the nonlinear drag force is also carried out considering the effect of steady current as well as oscillatory wave motions. Example analyses are performed for guyed tower in 300m water. Transfer functions and the expected maximum values of the deck displacement and the bending moment near the middle of the tower are calculated. Numerical results show that both of the frequency domain methods presented in this paper predict the responses of the sturcture very reasonably compared with those by the time integration method utilzing the random simulations wave particla motions.

  • To solve the nonlinear system problems, many methods have been proposed. Generally those methods however need long processing time because of their complicated algorithms. On the other hand, some simple linearization methods also have been studied. In this paper, a new linearization method using cubic splines[1] is proposed. The approximated linear system obtained by this method we can apply the conventional simple linear system theories such as Kalman filter[2, 3] for the estimation problem.

  • A method for obtaining optimal orbital maneuvers of a space vehicle has been developed by combining feedback linearization method with the elegance of the Lambert's theorem. To obtain solutions to nonlinear orbital maneuver problems. The full nonlinear equations of motion for space vehicle in polar coordinate system are transformed exactly into a controllable linear set in Brunovsky canonical form by using feedback linearization by choosing position vector as fully observable output vector. These equations are used to pose a linear optimal tracking problem with a solutions to Lambert's problem and a linear analytical solution of continuous low thrust problem as reference trajectories.

  • A new statistical linearization technique for nonlinear system called covariance matching method is proposed in this paper. The covariance matching method makes the mean and variance of an approximated output be identical real functional output, and the distribution of the approximated output have identical shape with a given random input. Also, the covariance matching method can be easily implemented for statistical analysis of nonlinear systems with a combination of linear system covariance analysis.

  • The first and second moments of response variables for SDOF systems with hysteretic nonlinearity are obtained by a direct linearization procedure. This adaptation in the implementation of well-known statistical linearization methods, provides concise, model-independent linearization coefficients that are well-suited for numerical solution. The method may be applied to systems which incorporate any hysteresis model governed by a differential constitutive equation, and may be used for zero or non-zero mean random vibration. The implementation eliminates the effort of analytically deriving specific linearization coefficients for new hysteresis models. In doing so, the procedure of stochastic analysis is made independent from the task of physical modeling of hysteretic systems. In this study, systems with three different hysteresis models are analyzed under various zero and non-zero mean Gaussian White noise inputs. Results are shown to be in agreement with previous linearization studies and Monte Carlo Simulation.

  • This paper presents a new linearization algorithm to find the periodic solutions of the Duffing equation, under harmonic loads. Since the Duffing equation models a single degree of freedom system with a cubic nonlinear term in the restoring force, finding its periodic solutions using classical harmonic balance (HB) approach requires numerical integration. The algorithm developed in this paper replaces the integrals appearing in the classical HB method with triangular matrices that are evaluated algebraically. The computational cost of using increased number of frequency components in the matrixbased linearization approach is much smaller than its integration-based counterpart. The algorithm is computationally efficient; it only takes a few iterations within the region of convergence. An example comparing the results of the linearization algorithm with the "exact" solutions from a 4th order Runge- Kutta method are presented. The accuracy and speed of the algorithm is compared to the classical HB method, and the limitations of the algorithm are discussed.

  • This paper presents an equivalent linearization method and application to the equations of motion of a 6 degree-of-freedom PRRS HexaSlide type parallel manipulators which are characterized as the architecture with constant link lengths that are attached to moving sliders on the ground and to a mobile platform. Since dynamic equations of parallel manipulators are complicated and highly nonlinear, control bandwidth, adjustable control gain as well as vibration characteristics cannot be easily found. The proposed equivalent linearization method can be applied over specified workspace as well as on a path of mobile platform. Through an equivalent linearization method, one can easily get a simple linear dynamic model. This linearized dynamic model may be utilized in a simplified computed torque control strategy.
