  • Thermogravimetric analyses were conducted by isothermal technique in order to characterize the sulfation reaction of calcined sorbents such as Tanyang dolomite, Yongwol dolomite, Tanyang limestone, and Yongwol limestone. Sulfation reaction for 0.08 mm in particle diameter were carried out with respect to various factors.; isothermal reaction temperatures (650~85$0^{\circ}C$), SO$_2$ concentration (0.38~1%), and oxygen concentration (1.2~6.7%). Measured reaction orders of SO$_2$ concentration, oxygen concentration, and activation energy were 0.3~2.2, 0.22~0.51 and 23.6~36 kJ/mol, respectively. The kinetic equations of sulfation reaction of calcined dolomites were correlated with various factors.

  • Production of limestone for cement in Kangwon and Chungbuk areas reaches over 80 million tonnes per year. However, many regulatory activities for preservation of the environment against potential hazardous impacts from the open pit mining make it difficult for the industry. With recent improvement of the mining methods and working conditions, the regulations related to the quarrying of limestone may need to be revised. Methods for reducing environmental hazards are proposed in this paper, with some suggestions concerning the revision of related regulations. This study is expected to serve as a practical solution for the cement industry in balance of preservation and development.

  • This study has exemined on the effect for the fitting in porcelain body of $MgO-SiO_2$ system. The mixture was made of corresponding in the theoretical composition of enstatite with Kyul Sung talc and sea water magnesia cake. Hyup Jin kaolin as clay minerals to give the mixtue plasticity was added 10% by weight of the mixture. Also feldspar was added 5% by weight of the above mixture. We added limestone in various kinds of 1%-20% by weight of mixture included kaoil and feldspar in order last of all. The mixture was fire at the various temperatures from 12$25^{\circ}C$ to 13$25^{\circ}C$. After we examined closely physcial properties and microstructures we achieved the following results. 1) 5% addition amount of limestone was good for the property of the strength at the full firing temperatures. But 10% and 15% additions were remarkably excellant below 1275$^{\circ}C$ 2)When we considered the apparent bulk density 5% addition was good for the full firing temperature. 3) 5% addition amount of limestone was proved to be the most excellant propeties between 130$0^{\circ}C$ and 13$25^{\circ}C$ when we considered the apparent bulk density and the range of the firing temperature.

  • Reinforced twice than width of foundation with SIC under steel piles drived in cohesion soil and in the coal-limestone which heavily fractured. To analyze behaviour characteristic of steel piles, load transfer test was performed to steel piles attached with strain gauges to axial direction. After it passed 49days, dynamic load test was performed to set-up effect of steel piles bearing capacity. The results of test were compared to each other. According to the results, as the skin friction of steel pile was on the same condition, end bearing capacity of steel piles established on SIC solid of cemented milk in cohesion soil was three times than steel piles established on SIG solid of cemented milk in heavily fractured coal- limestone. After piles were driven and passes 49days, in case of piles on SIG solid of comented milk in cohesion soil the increaes of allowable bearing capacity was 442.9% and allowable bearing capacity of piles on SIG solid of cemented milk in heavily fractured coal-limestone increased 22.4%.

  • The gravity measurement was conducted at 256 stations around Chungju Lake to study subsurface geological distributions and subterranean mass discontinuities by the results of gravity anomaly in Metamorphic Complex, Okcheon Group, Great Limestone Group of Choson Supergroup, and Cretaceous biotite granites. Okcheon Group showed a high Bouguer gravity anomaly while Great Limestone Group of Choson Supergroup relatively a low anomaly. The mean depth of subterranean mass discontinuities is about 2.0 km and downward along the Suchangri Formation from the Hwanggangri and Moonjuri formations. In general, Okcheon Group appeared shallower than the depth of Great Limestone Group of Choson Supergroup when imaging the subterranean mass discontinuities from the Bouguer gravity anomaly.

  • Due to increased interest in environmental friendly ecological development and restoration, civil appeals concerning various environmental and landscape problems are continuously being lodged in cases where open-pit limestone mines are situated in places with eminent natural landscape. In this study, with the open-pit limestone mines located in the Baekdu mountain range as a study area, intends to contribute in recognition of various environmental problems and in the promotion of a reasonable restoration plan through high quality geo-spatial information. And it is planning to establish a method for sustained monitoring of the limestone mining by building intelligent national land information of the study area through combining Airborne Laser Scanning and Terrestrial LiDAR based surveying.

  • About 30 limestone caves have already been developed at the basin of the River Dong. baekyong Cave, Hwaam Cave, and Jeolgol Cave are of great worth, not noly as a matter of study, but as a matter of the tourist resources they develop. Among them Baekyong Cave is the best. I'm going to give a full detailed account of cave deposits and cave phenomena focused on its view to preserve the looks of Baekyong Cave by analyzing the speleothem of Baekyong Cave and cave system scientifically and systematizing them. Baekyong Cave, Natural Monument Ho. 260, is on the verge of being submerged. Peculiar things in Baekyong Cave are 1) pseudo stalgmite 2) anthodites 3) erratic stalagmites 4) cave shield 5) lost river 6) cave flint 7) pit fall but I have also mentioned general and related matters.

  • This research was aimed to figure out the trend of dust diffusion at open pit limestone mine for assessing the environmental impacts on the high voltage power transmission line. It is rather easy to assess the dust generation and size distribution of limestone dust at the blasting site, but it is very hard to assess the expected area of dust diffusion and amount of dust fall by the distances from the dust source. In this research, a 3-dimensional fluid dynamic simulation software (3D-Flow) was used for analysing the above mentioned matters to assess the impacts to the insulators on the transmission tower by the blasting dust. It was verfied that the 3D-Flow is reliable tool for simulating dust movement, and the limestone dust is not much hazardous to the power transmission line.

  • This study is focused on establishing influence zone caused by tunnelling in limestone site. Therefore, the numerical analysis using the FLAC2D was performed considering various locations and magnitudes of cavities. To reduce the stress concentration, the shape of cavities was designed to ellipse. This parametric study reveals that the cavities located at crown part and edge part of tunnel greatly have influenced on stability of tunnel. The effect of distance between tunnel and cavity which is larger than 1-0D (Tunnel diameter) dose not directly related to stability of tunnel, but the nearer a cavity location was, the larger displacement and stress of reinforcement occured within 0.25D.

  • The addition of a limestone filler(LF) to fill into the voids between cement and aggregate particles can reduce the cementitious paste volume. This paper aim to evaluate the influence of LF contents on the hydration kinetics and compressive strength. Hydration kinetics were evaluate using heat of hydration, ignition loss and thermal analysis. The heat of hydration was measured using Isothermal Calorimetry. The degree of hydration was measured using ignition loss. Hydration product analysis was carried out by Thermal Gravimetric and Differential Thermal Analysis. The results show that the addition of LF reduces not only the initial setting time and heat of hydration peak, also degree of hydration and rate of strength development at early age increase with the addition of LF. It can be concluded the LF fills the pore between cement particles due to formation of carboaluminate, which may accelerate the setting of cement pastes.
